How Long Should You Cook The Chicken On The Grill

The Best Grilled Chicken Marinade Ever – Easy Chicken Marinade Recipe

It depends on the thickness of the chicken breast. If you prefer to use thinly sliced chicken breasts, they will cook quicker than thick chicken breasts. The rule of thumb is usually 3-5 minutes per side on medium to medium-high heat. The FDA says that chicken is fully-cooked at 165 degrees. Keep in mind that chicken continues to cook slightly once you remove from the grill.

Ways To Jazz Up Your Grilled Chicken:

  • Add an easy fruit or vegetablesalsa. This mango salsa is my personal favorite.
  • Serve it on a salad. Chop the chicken and add it to some greens. Dress it with the cilantro-ranch dressing from this BBQ Chicken Salad recipe. Yum!
  • Add it to a burritobowl. Serve it on top of rice or quinoa, add in some roasted vegetables, and drizzle on your favorite sauce .
  • Sprinkle on freshherbs. Add some fresh cilantro, parsley, green onions or basil after grilling.

To Cook Chicken On The Stove

  • When ready to cook, remove chicken from the refrigerator and let rest 15-30 minutes ahead of time.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large non-stick skillet or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Once very hot, add chicken and cook, undisturbed, for 3-4 minutes, or until deeply golden on one side.
  • Flip chicken over, cover, and reduce heat to medium. Cook for approximately 5-7 more minutes , or until chicken is cooked to 165 degrees F.

Brining is a great way to add flavors and make sure your chicken stays super moist. The sweet tea brine used here goes further by adding a beautiful color to the finished chicken and screams summer. It also leaves behind a subtle sweetness that make this chicken irresistible. Grilling over indirect heat means you dont have to worry about flareups or burning your chicken. A quick finish on the direct heat crisps up the skin and makes it as delicious as the meat. What To Look For In The Perfect Grill

    • Every barbecue needs heat that distributes evenly across the grilling surface. Its very important that the burners cook evenly.
    • Pre-assembled. I have put together too many barbecues and they take forever. You want one that is preassembled!
    • Easy access to the gas tank. Nothing is worse than needing extra hands to change out the gas tank. Its already a crisis when you run out of propane in the middle of grilling.
    • An igniter that wont break. I can honestly say that I have never owned a grill that had an igniter that worked long term. Have you?
    • Lights that help you see the food. I have bought a ton of portable lights for barbecues and most didnt work. Actually, many of them worked, but you still couldnt see the food.
    • Finally, I need ample storage for tools.

I partnered with Coyote Outdoor Living and am now the proud owner of this 28 C-Series gas grill . In addition to everything I listed above, it has a removable warming rack, fold-down shelving, wheels, and a removable cart. I love it.

    How To Grill Marinated Chicken

Once your chicken has marinated for 12-18 hours, its time to grill it! We have a thorough guide on how to grill chicken here, but heres a quick refresher.

  • Remove Moisture: First things first, remove your chicken from the package and then use a paper towel to blot as much moisture out of it as you can.
  • Flavor: Next, use this grilled chicken marinade recipe to marinate your chicken for 12-18 hours.
  • Grill: Preheat your grill to around 400ºF. We know that grill temps fluctuate, so dont freak out if it isnt exact! Weve found that 400ºF is the perfect temp for grilled chicken. Hot enough to get you gorgeous grill marks, but not too hot to dry out your chicken. Grill your chicken for around 7-8 minutes over direct heat, flip, and grill for 8-10 more minutes. PS: this is for a 6 oz. chicken breast!
  • Internal Temp: You know your chicken is completely cooked once it reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF. We use a meat thermometer for this, that way you dont take any risks in eating raw chicken. You can learn more about cooking here from this great article by the USDA.
  • Let Rest: What is rest time? After you remove the chicken from the grill and it sits, it will continue to cook to the final temperature. We recommend letting your chicken rest for at least 5 minutes so that you can ensure it reaches at least 165ºF to destroy any bacteria.

    • Lemon Grilled Chicken Breast. Zest 1 additional lemon into your marinade. Finish the grilled chicken with an extra squeeze of lemon juice.
    • Italian Grilled Chicken Breast. Season the chicken with Italian seasoning. Serve topped with a handful of grated Mozzarella or Parmesan cheese.

How Long Do You Marinade Chicken

How long you marinade chicken really depends on what type of chicken you would like to marinate. Thin sliced chicken breasts will take much less time than thicker, whole chicken breasts. And bone in chicken will take even longer to marinate than boneless chicken.

I like to marinate chicken at least 4-8 hours for boneless chicken breasts or thighs. Bone in chicken parts I like to leave in the marinade even longer.most of the time overnight. Its great for a weeknight dinner because most of the prep work is done!

    How To Check Temperature Accurately

The BEST Chicken Marinade (For Grilling or Baking)

I highly recommend investing in a meat thermometer otherwise there is no accurate way to check when your chicken is cooked without slicing and loosing valuable juices.

    • Chicken breasts: insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the chicken although hopefully you dont have one because your chicken has been pounded to an even thickness ).
    • Chicken thighs: insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the chicken without hitting any bones. Bones are a heat conductor and will register higher than the actual meat.

How To Make The Best Grilled Chicken Marinade

A good marinade can be what takes your chicken from ho-hum to OMG in a 30 minutes. So what is a good seasoning for grilled chicken? The key to a good chicken marinade is to have a combination of ingredients:

  • Salt salt has flavor, as we all know. Just dont get too heavy handed with the salt as it can actually dry out the meat.
  • Acid Acids, like lemon juice, vinegar and mustard, help to tenderize the meat. Leave them on too long though, and they can break down the meats and dry them out, similar to salt.
  • Fat Fats, like olive oil and canola oil carry flavor and help to infuse the marinade into the meat.
  • Flavor This may be the most important of all! Add flavor to your grilled chicken marinade with potent, high-flavor ingredients like garlic, herbs and spices to really pack a punch to your chicken.
  • How Long Should You Marinate

There is no written rule on how long you marinate a chicken. We usually do about 30 minutes prior to the chicken going on the grill.

If you marinade has acidic ingredients in them such as lemon juice or vinegars marinate your chicken for about 30 minutes. The only marinades that I would marinate overnight is if they have a BBQ or a honey-mustard base.
