Make Ahead Country Style Ribs For Camping

Grilled Country Style Boneless Pork Ribs

Not only is this a great backyard grilled rib recipes, this is a super easy make ahead rib recipe for camping. Simple, heres what to do.

  • 24 hours before youre leaving for your trip, par-boil the ribs for 20 minutes in a large pot on your stove-top
  • Transfer the ribs to a couple of zip lock bags and add the marinade. I like to double bag them just to make sure they stay sealed. Or you can place them in a disposable roasting dish. Which ever method works best for you for transporting.
  • Once at your campsite, throw the ribs on the grill and cook for 15 20 minutes basting liberally with BBQ sauce and turning frequently.

So pick up a package of country style pork ribs and a bottle of your Stubbs pork marinade and bar-b-que sauce and enjoy an All-American platter of goodness this weekend.

Looking for menu ideas to make that holiday party a complete success? How about a side dish of BBQ Coleslaw. This recipe is a Stubbs original, using mayo and BBQ sauce. Its flat out delicious and a perfect side dish for ribs.

Choosing The Grilling Method

There are a few different tactics that you can use when making grilled country style ribs.

The method that I used in this recipe is a low and slow cooking style. This is great for ensuring that the meat turns out nice and tender.

At the same time, it does mean that you have to cook the pork ribs for longer.

Your other option is to crank the grill up to medium heat or 350 F. This is great for getting nice and crispy layer.

Here, you should let the meat cook for about 5 minutes flip it over and cook for 5 minutes more. Then flip the ribs over and baste. Wait for 5 minutes, flip, and baste.

If you are looking for the best of both worlds, then you can start by cranking up the temperature to 350 F on the grill.

Let the pork ribs cook on each side for about 5 minutes. Then, turn the heat down and cook for longer at a lower temperature.

Start basting about 30 minutes before the meat is done.

These Grilled Country Style Ribs are first dry rubbed with a blend of ground cumin, oregano, black pepper and other warm spices before grilling. The exterior gets crusty and the tender interior is juicy. No typical BBQ sauce on these for an alternative, but feel free. Plus, no rib bones to deal with, just seasoned meat!

Typically my thoughts of any rib goes to a tender piece of meat, seasoned well and covered in a delicious, lip smackin sauce thats sticky and has a little kick. Well, like my Memphis Style Ribs, you dont always need to have a sauce on your ribs for a killer meal.

And it doesnt always have to have that Southern flavor either.

Take these Grilled Country Style Ribs for instance. I decided to go the Mediterranean style route for the dry rub, but feel free to use whatever dry rub suits you. For the mop sauce I just used lemon juice and a little honey.

No BBQ Sauce on this round of ribs, but again, feel free to use whatever you like. The cooking time on these will be the same.

After you have arranged all the items, its time to turn on the grill and do some BBQ. However, the grill requires some attention too. Preparing the grill is as important as preparing ribs for the BBQ. So to keep the grill prepared to cook country style ribs, keep the following things in mind:

  • Make sure to preheat the grill for several minutes.
  • Moisturize the grill using cooking oil. It will prevent the ribs from sticking with the grill and keep the base juicy.
  • Cut thinner pieces of ribs to cook them evenly from inside.
  • Season the ribs using a mixture of salt and pepper, or you can also use a dry rub to season it.
  • These are the things to do before placing ribs on the grill. Seasoning the ribs properly will help the flavors to stick with it better.

    The Finale: Plating The Ribs

Let the ribs rest for about 10 to 15 minutes before serving. A great way to plate them is to use a very sharp knife to slice the meat into tender, flaky, thick slices. Drizzle some of the hot sauce across the ribs.

Heres why I love this recipe. The ribs are par-boiled stove top, then left to soak in a marinade sauce before a quick finish on a grill.

Stubbs makes marinating an even easier task. No mixing or measuring, just grab a bottle of their Pork Marinade. This spicy blend of chiles, lime and ginger will give a kick to anything pig, from pork chops to tenderloins to ribs.

The ribs are then easily finished on the grill for a quick slather and glaze with Stubbs Legendary Bar-B-Q sauce.

Basting The Grilled Country Style Ribs

This is yet another step that is optional. A lot of people prefer not to baste their ribs.

In fact, if you are going all in with your dry rub, I would argue that your grilled country style pork ribs dont actually need the sauce.

However, I feel that slathering the ribs in BBQ sauce gives it an authentic barbecue taste.

If you arent sure whether or not you should baste, I would be suggesting basting only half the batch. This will let you know which method you prefer.

You can also try basting the grilled country style ribs less. About half an hour before the ribs are done, apply a thin layer of sauce. Close the lid and let it cook for 15 minutes.

Flip the ribs and apply a thin layer of sauce and then cook for another 15 minutes. This will create a light glaze on the ribs but will not be overpowering.

I do want to give you a tip here, though, regarding the BBQ sauce. Now, if you have a favorite barbecue sauce, then you should definitely use it on the ribs.

In case you dont, you may want to think about whipping up your own batch. I have found that nothing quite compares to homemade sauce. And, it doesnt even take long to make.

In fact, you dont have to use barbecue sauce if you dont want to. There are lots of other options. Some people prefer a lemon honey basting liquid while others will go for something peppery and spicy. As such, you can experiment with various flavors and find out which one works for you.

Should You Boil Ribs Before Grilling

There is no definitive answer to this question, as the boil time for ribs will vary depending on a number of factors, including the size and cut of the meat. For example, it may be sufficient to boil smaller cuts like ribeye steaks for just 30-60 minutes, whereas larger pieces like prime ribs may need up to two hours in boiling water.

Regardless of the boil time you ultimately choose, it is important to remember that your main goal should be to overcook rather than undercook your ribs. This will help ensure that they are tender and juicy when grilled, maximizing their flavor and texture.

When preparing your ribs for grilling, be sure to apply a dry rub or marinade evenly and thoroughly. You should also take care to maintain proper grilling techniques, including using a clean, well-oiled grill surface and avoiding excessive flipping or turning of the meat.

With these tips in mind, you can boil your ribs with confidence and enjoy mouthwatering grilled ribs that are sure to impress your family and friends!

The best way to make sure you dont overcook the ribs is to set your oven as low as it will go and cook them for at least one hour. If youre cooking them in the oven, this should be enough time to get them tender and juicy. You can also cook them on a grill or smoker outside.

Youll want to take the ribs out of the refrigerator about an hour before youre ready to cook them, and then pat dry with a paper towel before coating with your favorite barbecue sauce. Then just pop them in the oven!

If youre not sure how long theyve been cooking, just use a meat thermometer. The internal temperature of your spare ribs should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit when done.
