Foodie Friday: Fish City Grill

Is it a sign that you may eat at a restaurant a little too often when you walk in and the whole place says, Hi, Jay!?

I cant help it! Fish City Grill in Flower Mound has been one of my go-to lunch spots for years. I love their ever-changing menu and that you can try out new seafood specials daily. Or that I can order one of my standard favorites as well.

Fish City Flower Mound is a little piece of history it was their very first location 18 years ago and they have now grown to 21 locations in 4 states with 11 locations here in DFW alone!

Part of Fish City Grills mission statement is that they want everyone who walks into one of their restaurants, customers and staff, to feel better about life once they leave. And I can honestly say that I have always felt better after enjoying a meal at Fish City Grill.

Another very important part of Fish Citys culture is their spirit of giving back. Their First Tuesday Benefit proves that each Fish City Grill location is truly a part of its local community. On the First Tuesday of each month, every one of their stores hosts a First Tuesday Benefit. Each store chooses a local charity and donates 15% of the entire days sales to that charity.

And, of course, at the center of Fish City Grill is their passion to serve great seafood and made-from-scratch recipes at affordable prices. And since Im a regular customer, would you like to hear what some of my favorite menu items are?

Fish City Grill At Preston

On the wall of the recently opened Fish City Grill at Preston-Royal hang 12 orange life preservers.

Theyre not an unexpected choice of décor for a seafood restaurant, but they have a deeper meaning. Twelve people were in the restaurant when the tornado blew through our neighborhood in 2019.

The storm made a direct hit on Fish City Grill, which was closed for two years and three months.

Customers would always be calling and asking, are we going to reopen? Yes. When are you going to reopen? And wed give them the best guess that we could, says Bill Bayne, the restaurant co-founder.

Those questions were always followed by another inquiring about whether specific team members would be there. Many of them returned when the restaurant reopened in January.

Bayne and his wife, Lovett, started their restaurant chain in 1995 with Half Shells in Snider Plaza. Five years later, the first Fish City Grill opened in Flower Mound. The second Fish City Grill opened four years later at Preston-Royal.

The Preston-Royal location is a location weve been looking at for years, just hoping for an opportunity to come along, he says.

For Bayne, working in restaurants was a way to help offset expenses while a student at West Texas State University. He waited tables, tended bar and as a senior, he was manager of an Amarillo seafood restaurant.

A little later, he was general manager of Nates Seafood in Addison. Thats where he met Lovett. He hired her as a waitress.

Reviews For Fish City Grill

Great experience tonight. Our first time here and glad we came. My husband and I had different specials of the evening and loved both of them. The staff was on the mark, not easy to find lately. Our only complaint was that the great food was served on room/cool temperature plates so our food got really cold fast. Such an easy fix! We will be back.
