Blizzard Tip: Cook Frozen Pizza on the Grill

You havent lived until youve experienced the flame-licked, golden-brown cheese of a propane-grilled pie

Just 24 hours ago, I thought the whole world had gone crazy. Everywhere I seemed to look, people were talking about grilling frozen pizza and I could not figure out why. Some of these posts claimed that it was a different experience, with one redditor saying that grilling a $3 Jacks frozen pizza makes it taste like a $20 pie from the Hut. Others claimed that specifically with a propane grill it was quicker than the oven because theres no preheat time. A few people even said charcoal was the way to go for an added smoky flavor.

When the charcoal grill seemed close to ready, I began preheating my oven inside and then turned on the propane grill, which, of course, heated up in an instant with no trouble at all. I then tossed one frozen pizza in each cooking apparatus and waited.

I wasnt about to give up though after all, I still had that extra pizza. I reasoned that direct heat was too intense for either grill, so I pulled out my pizza stone and a pizza tray I stole from Chuck E. Cheese during my kids third birthday party. I then cut in half the last frozen pizza and popped a side on each grill.

Using A Cast Iron Skillet

Im a pretty big fan of cast irons. I love the way they evenly disperse heat. They also are especially nice for cooking pizza on the grill, especially if youre into deep-dish Chicago-style pizza.

It might be hard to come across a cast iron big enough to accommodate your average frozen pizza, so you can also use a regular baking sheet or pan for similar results.

Instructions

  • Preheat your grill to around 375 degrees Fahrenheit .
  • Lightly grease your cast iron or pan with olive oil.
  • If you are working with a fresh pizza and a cast iron, you should prepare your pie In the skillet before putting it on the flames. Otherwise, place the pan on the grate and then add your pizza.
  • Shut the lid and bake for 8-10 minutes .
  • Rotate it carefully then bake for another 3-5 minutes.
  • Allow to cool for 4-5 minutes then enjoy.
  • Does It Matter If The Pizza Is Frozen Or Fresh

Frozen or fresh prepared pizzas can both be baked on a grill. There are a few differences in the cooking instructions that are worth pointing out.

If you are working with freshly prepared dough, youll want to give the bottom of your dough a light brushing of olive oil and pre-cook it on the grate for 2-3 minutes before taking it off the heat to finish adding the sauce, cheese, and toppings.

The side with the grill marks should be the top the side that you add your toppings to. Dont forget to brush the bottom side of your crust as well with oil before placing your pizza back on the grate.

Frozen pizza, on the other hand, needs less prep work. However, since you are working with ingredients that are quite cold, youre going to need to give it more time to melt the cheese completely and thoroughly cook the toppings.

Fresh pizza will cook in 10 to 15 minutes.

Frozen pizza requires an additional 5 10 minutes depending on the variety and type of crust for the best results.

toppings for cooking on a pizza stone Pizza is being prepared on an outdoor gas grill. Even while theyre most commonly used in the oven, theyre also a fantastic tool for the grill, where they can be used to cook pizzas alongside your burgers, hotdogs, and steaks. You should be aware of the following considerations before converting your grill into a pizza oven.

    Stonebake On The Grill

How to grill a Frozen Pizza on Traeger Grills

Using a pizza stone in addition to your grill offers its own set of benefits that you might enjoy. Pizza Stones hold in their heat fairly evenly and are slightly porous, thus allowing the stone itself to draw out some of the moisture from the dough as it bakes.

You also preheat a stone, so when you drop your pizza onto it with a pizza peel -which, if you dont have already, you should seriously consider investing in one it gets a quick burst of initial heat that helps puff up the crust.

This stoneware on is perfect for both gas or charcoal grill and doesnt break at high temperatures.

Follow the same instructions as if you were using a baking sheet or cast iron, but first, allow your pizza stone to preheat with your grill.

You can test to see if your stone is hot enough by sprinkling corn starch across it. If it smolders, then its the ideal heat for your pizza. If it immediately combusts into flames, then it is too hot.

How To Cook A Pizza In An Air Frye

Air fryers have emerged as a popular appliance in recent years due to their ease of use and quick cooking. The ability of air fryers to quickly and evenly cook food is one of their most appealing features. In other words, if you use an air fryer, you can cook a pizza in less than 6 minutes, which is significantly faster than baking a pizza in an oven. Pizza can be cooked with an air fryer without any special equipment, but it must be frozen before use. When the pizza dough is too wet in an air fryer, it will not cook evenly and will not crispy. The pizza may not fit inside the air fryer if it is too large, so you should always check the size of the pizza before cooking. It is critical to allow the pizza to cool completely before eating it. The pizzas will be thoroughly cooked, and the cheese will melt.
