A New Way To Grill Your Game Day Wings

How to Make Grilled Chicken Wings | Weber Genesis Gas Grill | Barlow BBQ

Wings might be the most requested and favorite finger food for all game day grill outs. For good reason too! When I invite my friends and family over to watch the game, its not out of the ordinary to go through 100 to 150 wings in one day.

When grilling wings, I always do them indirectly. I place all the wings on the outer rim of the grate with my charcoal in the middle. This creates the perfect environment for them to grill to perfection. Plus, it looks really cool and is a great conversation piece for everyone over!

I am often asked what type of sauce I use to wash my wings with because the flavor is so unique. I use one of my favorite buffalo, teriyaki, and barbecue sauces and make sure my wings are coated evenly. The blend of one of those flavors combined with crispy skin on the outside and juicy meat on the inside, is a win with each bite.

Feel free to take your favorite flavors and combine them together to create your own secret recipe for wings. The best part about grilling the perfect wings on my Weber each game day is that unlike my favorite sports teams, I always end the night with a win bite after bite!

What Temperature And How Long Should I Grill Chicken Wings

Youll want to cook wings at 375F, but make sure you preheat the grill for 15 to 20 minutes to make sure its up to temperature. Cook the wings for 35 minutes, turning once and at the end of cooking time, their internal temperature will have reached between 175F and 180F.

This is the time to toss them in your sauce of choice and then let rest. Resting meat is the easiest thing in the world, improves the succulence and flavor no end, and is forgotten by many. Ten minutes is all thats needed but it will make all the difference.

Grilled Chicken Wings With Seasoned Buffalo Sauce

  • Classic Buffalo chicken wings are fried but I love the flavor and ease of cooking them on the grill. They are truly no fuss, no muss and finger-lickin good! The key is to cook them over a moderate flame so that the fat renders out and the skin gets nice and crispy. You can serve them plain they are really delicious as is but the seasoned Buffalo sauce takes them over the top. Its mild enough for most kids: as you can see, my son and his friends polished off an entire 3-pound test batch in about ten minutes!

    Grilled Chicken Wing Seasoning

We use our chicken seasoning, which is herbal in flavor with no sugar. No sugar is important when grilling wings because sugar in the rub can over caramelize and give a bitter flavor.

For this recipe, we are using two pounds of chicken. For every pound of chicken we cook, we use the same ratio: 1 tablespoon of chicken seasoning and 1 tablespoon of corn starch. So if you are scaling up this recipes for a hungry family, then simply follow that ratio.

The easiest way to season the chicken wings:

  • Place the two pounds of wings in a one gallon sealable bag.
  • Drop the seasoning and corn starch into the bag and seal it.
  • Shake the bag, moving the wings around with your hands to get the coating on all of the wings.
  • Remove the wings from the bag and place back on the rack that was used to dry them. Any excess rub and corn starch will drop into the sheet pan.
