Shooting In Downtown South Bend Indiana

UPDATE: A suspect has been arrested in connection with a homicide that occurred in the citys downtown area Tuesday night.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of S. Michigan St. around 9:45 p.m.

When they arrived, they were advised that a female victim had arrived at the hospital, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Thats where the victim, identified as 32-year-old Kaylynn Davidson, later died from her injuries.

The South Bend Police Departments Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation and, through multiple interviews and evidence collected, the suspect was identified as 26-year-old Kimarie Wright.

Wright was arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail, where she is awaiting the formal charging process.

Police say theres no threat to the public at this time for anyone traveling downtown because this appeared to be an isolated incident between the victim and suspect.

This is now the fourth homicide investigation in South Bend in less than a week.

Weve worked so hard to revitalize downtown. Weve worked so hard to revitalize the city, and with four homicides now in less than a week, were in a little bit of disbelief as well. Thats why we lean on the community, and the community leans on us. Together, were committed to stop this, said South Bend Police Detective Bureau Capt. Jason Biggs.

There were only 4 homicide investigations for the entire months of March and April this year.

We were passing through and I wanted a good, old fashioned greasy burger. This place delivered outstandingly! I got the bacon double with jalapenos and loved it. If I ever find myself in south bend again, I will be stopping in!

I expected that the decor would reflex more scrupulousness in it’s appearance and have more of an Asian theme. Hence there was worn out vents and faded wall paper. But as long as a place is sanitary I don’t mind the appearance too much. When I looked at the menu I thought ” Thai food must be very similar to Chinese food” since a lot of their options mimicked what Chinese restaurants serve, however not entirely.

Woman Killed Outside South Bend Restaurant Two Weeks After Her Son Was Fatally Shot

SOUTH BEND The mother of a 5-year-old boy who was accidentally shot and killed by a 9-year-old relative two weeks ago was shot and killed herself in downtown South Bend on Tuesday night.

Police confirmed Kaylynn Davidson, 32, died at the hospital after being taken there for her injuries. Kimarie Wright, 26, has been arrested in the case.

The shooting happened around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday outside the Linden Grill, according to police and scanner traffic. Officers stationed near downtown initially heard four or five gunshots and then multiple 911 calls began flooding in to dispatchers reporting that a fight broke out at the Linden Grill and a woman was shot outside.

Scanner traffic indicates multiple officers were dispatched to the hospital as the victim arrived because of an angry crowd that had gathered there.

Davidson was the mother of Kyler Nowlin Jackson, a 5-year-old boy who was accidentally shot and killed on April 30 by a 9-year-old relative, according to a press release from the family at the time of Jackson’s death.

The Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the Tuesday night homicide and arrested Wright early Wednesday morning. Wright has not yet been formally charged.

A reporter who walked into the Linden Grill seeking information Wednesday was told no one was available to talk.

“It’s people. It’s just not South Bend. People who are allowing gun violence to be a way of life have got to change their behavior,” Lee said.

Now: Owner Shares Plans To Reopen Original Linden Grill Location In South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. Following about a decade of sitting empty, the original Linden Grill on Linden Avenue will soon return to serving up its locally famous chicken wings and burgers to the South Bend community.

Linden Grill owner Alfonso Fonnie Mack is excited to reopen the restaurant at 1418 Linden Avenue, which will serve as Linden Grills third location.

I feel theres a customer base over there that really doesnt venture off from their surroundings. I always felt it was unfair to take that product from its origination and people were kind of mad when it closed, Mack said.

Mack currently operates Linden Grills at 119 South Michigan Street and 4333 West Western Avenue in South Bend.

The owner grew up in South Bend and learned to cook in the kitchen with his mom and grandma.

It was about learning how to be a man and one of the things youve got to learn is how to cook and take care of yourself, Mack said.

Mack attended college in Mississippi at Alcorn State University, where he put his cooking skills to the test.

I went to college on a basketball scholarship. Money was tight back then. In basketball, we had the latest practice of the day and after practice there was nowhere to eat. Mom had sent me a few care packages and I started cooking and I came to find out that out of all the athletes in the dorm, I was the only one who knew how to cook, Mack said.

In 2000, Mack opened the original Linden Grill at its namesake location.
