The Duration To Grill Pork Loin

If you turn up the heat on your gas grill to a 325 ° temperature, then it will take you about an hour and forty-five minutes to cook a 4-pound pork loin. However, the duration for grilling a pork loin could be more or less, depending on the heat on your gas grill and the size of meat you are grilling. However, since we recommend a 4-pound pork loin and a 325 ° temperature, you should expect your pork loin to grill in an hour and 45 minutes.

When it comes to grilling a pork loin, you must know one hack. The hack that were referring to is the use of a double probe digital thermometer. This is quite literally the best thing to have when grilling a pork loin or any other meat for that matter.

Grilled Pork Loin: The Perfect Meal For Fall

There are some classic flavors and foods that come to mind when it is fall in New England. Apples, cranberries, maple syrup, pumpkins, cinnamon, ginger, and sage to name a few. My wife and I love to entertain in the fall. It is still warm enough to be outside, but not so cold you need a jacket. It is also easier to stand at a grill or smoker without the blazing heat of summer.

I recently received a two and a half pound pork loin from the Holy Grail Steak Company. Pork is a great complement to classic fall flavors. Hopefully, you have read about how I have cooked my way through most of Holy Grail Steaks this year. I have also had the opportunity to sample a variety of their pork products as well. In my blog Outrageous Brined, Smoked Pork Chops on the Portable Nomad Grill you can read how to grill double-cut thick pork chops from HGSs Mangalitsa pork 8-bone rib roast. I also enjoyed their Mangalitsa Smoked Ham.

Checking The Internal Temperature Of The Pork

How to Grill a Pork Tenderloin on a Gas Grill

Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer.

TIP: Make sure you place the instant read thermometer close to the center of the meat. Be sure not to push it through to the cooking grate or you will get an incorrect reading.

I usually place it in the center and check it. I also check the thickest part of the pork loin.

I used a digital meat thermometer probe that stayed in the meat while it cooked on the grill. That is not necessary, just convenient. You can check it with a regular cooking thermometer or a digital food thermometer.

This is a great tool to have so you dont have to keep opening the grill.

How To Select And Prepare Pork Tenderloin

If youre new to working with pork tenderloin, there are a few things you should know to set yourself up for success.

    Pork Tenderloin vs Pork Loin

The first thing to know is that pork tenderloin is very different from pork loin. While theyre both cut from the same loin region of the pig, they have very different textures, taste and preferred cooking methods. The main way to tell them apart is by size. The pork loin is much larger and wider than the tenderloin and has a very distinctive fat cap on the top of the meat.

Meanwhile, the tenderloin is a smaller, longer cut of meat and usually slightly darker in color, too. The tenderloin comes from just below the pigs back fat and is the most tender cut of meat on a pig.

    Choosing the Best Pork Tenderloin

When selecting a pork tenderloin, look for a piece of meat that is roughly one pound and contains some marbling throughout the meat. Marbling refers to tiny veins of fat running through the meat. The fat adds moisture to the meat which helps keep it tender as it cooks.

Direct heat will be used first to give the pork a nice char that locks in flavor and moisture. Then, the meat will be moved to an area of your grill with indirect heat. The pork will roast slowly, covered, in the grills circulating heat until it reaches the proper internal temperature. Learn more about direct and indirect heat.
