Recteq Vs Traeger Best Selling Grills Compared

RT-590 Wood Pellet Grill | recteq

For our comparison we selected the top selling RT-700 with the middle of the range Traeger Ironwood.

The RT-700 stands out from the crowd because of its vast cooking area, the quality of its full stainless-steel construction, and its larger 40lb capacity pellet hopper that can fuel up to 40 hours of continuous cooking.

Cooking Grate: Winner Rec Tec

The model numbers for these two grills are based upon the cooking area provided with the Rec Tec giving 590 square inches of grilling space compared to 575 square inches with the Traeger. The difference between 575 and 590 square inches seems pretty trivial at first but on closer examination the difference becomes massive.

The Rec Tec RT-590 provides 590 square inches of grilling surface on the single primary cooking grate. The Traeger Pro 575 combines a 418 square inch primary grate and a 154 square inch elevated secondary grate to give you 572 square inches. With the exception of my Oklahoma Joes Rider DLX I almost never use the elevated secondary grates on a grill. Elevated grates get in the way and run at different temperatures than the primary grate. When I look at grilling area I usually only pay attention to the primary cooking grate as I typically take the elevated grates out.

When you compare the 590 square inches of the Rec Tec against the 418 square inches of the Traeger you find you get 41% more grilling area with the Rec Tec. But hey, if you are the type of guy that actually uses the secondary grates then you should know that an optional secondary grate is available for the RT-590 that provides an additional 182 square inches.

Traeger Timberline 1300 Review

The Traeger Timberline 1300 is a flagship product with specs and features to match. This is the range where Traeger also features an all stainless steel construction with a total of 1300 sq. inches of cooking area. The 24 pound pellet hopper is fitted with a pellet sensor that can be monitored over Wi-Fi.

The cooking space is divided in three levels of adjustable cooking grates made of stainless steel. The D2 controller featured in the Timberline models has an intuitive control mechanism, making use of a navigation dial and dedicated buttons for specific functions. The grill comes with a range of ready scenarios that you can access directly, including settings for Keep Warm and Super Smoke.

The convenience features are also worth talking about. These include a side shelf with tool hooks, a full-length front shelf, and a magnetic bamboo chopping board. The included meat probe connects directly to the control panel and the stainless steel construction, along with the all-weather wheels and locking casters, give this a rock-solid presence that even Rambo would be proud of.

While the Traeger Timberline is a great pellet grill, the truly flagship experience in this category comes from the recteq offering.

Across the board, recteq uses stainless steel construction, which is only found in the Timberline range of Traeger products. Recteq also provides a longer warranty for all its grills across all price points.

Where Are Rec Tec Grills Made

REC TEC Grills Stampede RT

While recteq is among the companies that manufacture and source their parts from China, the central computer and controller is manufactured in-house in the USA. The final assembly, quality check, and powder coat of the main metal parts are also finished locally at their main factory in Augusta, Georgia. This allows them to stay on top of quality concerns and consistently put out products that are tough, durable, and high-quality. Jack Bauer would be impressed!

Recteq recently went through a complete rebranding process and changed its name to recteq from Rec Tec. With the rebrand, the company is set to expand its range of outdoor products and venture into other markets. Recteq decided to change the name and remove grills because they are moving the company into lifestyle products. Expect more than just grills from recteq. They also decided to use all lowercase letter and will now be recteq.

Where Are Traeger Grills Made

It has been several years since Traeger moved its entire production chain to China. While this was initially a cause for concern with many users reporting quality issues, they seem to have listened to the critics and pulled things back. The sheer popularity of Traeger products and the heritage associated with the Traeger tag are proof that the brand still resonates with BBQ enthusiasts. Of late, Traeger has also understood the requirements of customers in an extremely competitive market and started offering products that embrace the latest in tech features.

Any of the pellet grills we discuss here can be a great addition to your home. However, it definitely makes sense to arrive at a decision with the most information and insight possible before you invest your hard-earned money. We will now take a look at representative pellet grills from both brands across three different price points, discuss their unique features, lay out their pros and cons, and provide you with enough information so that you can get the grill that suits your needs the best.

Rec Teq Trailblazer Rt

If youre a fan of precision cooking, I bet youre going to love the RT-340 Trailblazer from Rec Teq.

The grill isnt on the big side of the spectrum, but I swear, its mighty. I love the compact design, which makes it portable for cooking your meat from anywhere.

Lets hop over to some features of the Trailblazer

Quick features

  • Dual meat probes
  • Auto Start ignition

If theres anything that caught my attention about this pellet grill, its the portable design. It comes at an overall weight of 80 pounds and the hopper taking 15 pounds. The grill comes with 2 bags of pellet. Just load them into the copper and get started.

Cooking space

I know that 511 square inches of space is not the best, but at least, you will be able to feed about 5 Hungry people. The primary cooking area takes 340 square inches with an opportunity to add more shelves to make it 511 square inches.

Assembling and setting up

Whats with assembly? Trailblazer RT-340 is the easiest pellet grill to assemble. It comes with a cover. That way, you can protect your pellet grill, and you dont have to spend extra money on buying a grill cover.

WiFi technology

Rec Teq integrated the WIFI technology that allows you to control your grill from the comfort of your phone and a distance.

Cooking experience

All you have to do is to fire up the ignition and get into the business.

However, the pellet grill isnt an inexpensive option. Youre going to spend some money on the impeccable values youre getting.

Temperature Control And Heat Retention

The control panel is quite user-friendly, offering a temperature range of 200 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. You can control the temp in 5-degree increments, and the heat holds remarkably steady during the cooking process. This unit is also Wi-Fi compatible, which means you can adjust the temperature using your smartphone or tablet. I think the heat retention alone is impressive enough to make the Stampede worth the price.

When I was doing my research I was comparing the Rec Tec RT-590 against the Traeger Pro 575 as these two pellet grills have similar size, features and price tags. Both grills function with nearly identical internal configurations with a fire pot covered by a heat deflector, a solid sloping grease tray and cooking grates.

As of the time of this writing the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Prices for these two grills are:

Things To Consider Before Buying A Pellet Grill

Before getting into specifics, lets go over the specifications that you should keep in mind when shopping for a pellet grill.

Pellet grills, sometimes called pellet smokers, are fueled by small, compact cylinders made of compressed hardwood. The pellets are loaded into a hopper on the side of the unit and fed into the main body of the grill with an auger. An electric control panel allows you to set the temperature in advance, making the operation largely hands-free.

Depending on your selected temperature, it can take a while for a pellet grill to heat up. Thats why many outdoor chefs still prefer to use a gas grill, which can be ready to cook within minutes. If you have the time and patience to deal with them, however, wood pellets can imbue your barbecued foods with a lovely smoky flavor. They also cook the food more evenly, making them a good choice for low-and-slow cooking applications.

Here are a few pertinent considerations to take into account as you begin your search:

Recteq Vs Traeger Pellet Grill Head To Head

RecTeq RT

Both Traeger and recteq produce a range of wood pellet grills, pellets, accessories, and consumables.

Here are some of the general differences between the two brands to help you decide which grill to buy.

  • Price is fairly comparable, with the top-selling Traeger Pro 575 a little cheaper than the comparable RT-590, although this flips when you look at the high-end Timberline vs the largest RT-1250.
  • Both companies offer WiFi connectivity across their main line of grills, with the Traeger app earning much higher average ratings.
  • Recteq is based in Evans, Georgia while Traeger headquarters are in Utah. Both companies grills are manufactured in China.
  • Recteq grills come with a longer 6 year warranty compared to 3 years on the Traeger.

That covers the main general differences. To help you decide which company to go with weve compared the best-selling recteq RT-700 with the similarly priced Traeger Ironwood.

Weve tried to make these comparisons as accurate as possible but make sure you double-check as both brands are often updating their lineup and features.

What Customers Are Saying

Given what Ive learned about the Rec Tec Stampede, I was curious to find out what other users might have to say about it. The reviews I found online matched up with what I thoughtthis is a high-quality grill with a stellar reputation.

Customers praised the Stampede across the board, claiming that the unit arrived in good condition and was simple to put together. I was unable to find a single report of poor resultsunusual, given that pellet smoking can be a tricky prospect. The rugged construction was often cited as another plus, and many users reported consistently delicious results.

How Easy To Clean Rec Tec 590

If you are thinking that cleaning with this RT 590 is difficult then you are wrong. When you start cleaning, keep in mind two things. A To Z List Of Pellet Grill/smoker Brands

Back in 2007 when I first become aware of pellet grills and smokers the only brand I was really aware of was Traeger. Traeger is really where this whole concept of cooking with pellets started in the 1980s. It was a slow burner but since the 2010s is really when pellet grills and smokers started to get mainstream awareness, discussed alongside gas and charcoal grills. There are now over 30 pellet grill/smoker brands that Im aware of, and the link above goes to my A to Z list of brands article.

Now, you may already be aware of a few of the other brands such as Pit Boss, Camp Chef, Z Grills and Im sure you are aware of Weber, though you may not have known they have entered the pellet grill game. However, they are now many, many more brands to look into. Some may be what are commonly referred to as Traeger clones, but many others are offering their own unique designs and features.
