Taco Bell’s NEW Double Steak Grilled Cheese Burrito Review!

Of the three new flavors, the Beefy Melt Burrito was the one I had been most excited about. Its promotional pictures reminded me of the Grilled Cheese and Double Steak Grilled Cheese Burritos, which seemed like a very good sign.

Yet unlike its predecessors, which had been oozing with cheese from the moment I unwrapped them, the Beefy Melt Burrito just looked kind of naked and average at first glance.

But like a good book, you should never judge a burrito by its cover or, erm, tortilla. The real test, I knew, was all in the taste.

The Original Grilled Stuffed Burrito

Taco Bell has changed many menu items within the last decade! Back in the day the Grilled Stuft Burrito was my favorite! It was originally a flour tortilla stuffed with refried beans, the best burrito sauce called Baja sauce, rice, a three-cheese blend, and fiesta salsa then grilled in a commercial grill press. Customers had the option of upgrading it to grilled chicken, steak, or ground beef, but believe it or not I ordered mine without ANY meat I would request extra cheese with lots of baja sauce and it was still huge! Besides, how could you not love Baja sauce? It was the BEST!

Three chicken tacos in crispy corn tortillas with pinto beans, fajita vegetables, and roasted corn salsa are only 605 calories with 18 grams of fat, 1.14 grams of sodium, and 45 grams of protein. Since three tacos are included in a standard order of Chipotle order, theyre a more shareable option than a burrito.

And As I Took My First Few Bites I Loved How Fresh The Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito Tasted

The Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito has such an interesting flavor. The grilled tortilla and lettuce gave each bite this invitingly crispy texture that reminded me of a deli wrap. The chicken was nicely cooked and seasoned, and the delicious ranch and chipotle sauces were well-distributed throughout the burrito.

Plus all the veggies tasted super fresh something Taco Bell has been hit or miss with in some of its recent offerings. Things were definitely looking up.

Next Up Was The Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito

I was super excited to try the Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito, which looked very different from anything I’ve recently tested at the chain.

According to Taco Bell’s website, this burrito includes grilled chicken, fiesta strips, avocado ranch sauce, creamy chipotle sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and shredded cheddar cheese wrapped inside a warm flour tortilla.

I Tried 6 Taco Bell Burritos And The Best Was One Of The Cheapest

I’ve tried so many Taco Bell burritos that I decided to rank them from worst to best.

Classic items like the bean burrito and Quesarito didn’t impress me.
But I loved the newer Fiesta Veggie Burrito and Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito.

I’m a huge Taco Bell fan, and I’ve recently made it my mission to try everything on the chain’s extensive menu.

From tasting the iconic Mexican Pizza for the first time to trying Dolly Parton’s usual order, I’m always down for a new Taco Bell adventure.

And while “taco” may be in the chain’s name, I’ve found that some of the best items on the menu are actually burritos.

I’ve tried so many Taco Bell burritos, I decided it was time to finally rank them.

Over the last few years, Taco Bell has really stepped up its burrito game and released exciting new flavors.

Here’s how the newer burritos stacked up against Taco Bell’s beloved classics.

In last place is Taco Bell’s Beefy Melt Burrito.

Taco Bell released the Beefy Melt Burrito as part of its new “Cravings Value Menu” at the start of 2022.

The $2 burrito includes seasoned rice, seasoned beef, nacho cheese sauce, fiesta strips, a three-cheese blend, and sour cream, according to the chain’s website.

My Beefy Melt Burrito tasted as dry as it looked, and I barely got any meat.

With barely any cheese, meat, or sauce, my Beefy Melt Burrito was a huge disappointment.

Taking the fifth spot is Taco Bell’s bean burrito.

The bean burrito has some nice flavor, but it’s very forgettable.

When Taco Bell first released its perhaps cheesiest burrito ever, it didn’t take long for fans to fall in love with the item. In fact, praise like “the chain’s best dish in years” and “best burrito ever” was bestowed on the new burrito, which is no small feat considering how frequently the chain delights its die-hard fans with some epic new concoction or another.

The $2.99 item was an indulgent version of the classic American grilled cheese in burrito form. Taco Bell said that was the literal inspiration behind it, and sure enough, besides the seasoned beef, rice, crunchy red strips, chipotle sauce, and sour cream, the burrito featured the chain’s proprietary cheese blend on the inside as well as crusted onto the outside of its tortilla.

Then, in true Taco Bell fashion, the addiction-inducing cheesy burrito left the menus several weeks later, and its fans had a collective conniption fit. Yes, they protested this removal almost as much as the discontinuation of the Mexican Pizza, even starting another petition for its return. Lucky for them, this was always meant to be a limited-time item, so the fact that it’s currently unavailable can only mean one thingit will be coming back soon enough.

Overall I Thought Two Of The Three New Taco Bell Burritos Were Great And Would Definitely Order Them Again

I love that Taco Bell is mixing things up with the new Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito, and was even more impressed by the Fiesta Veggie Burrito’s exciting flavors. The Beefy Melt Burrito could definitely use a few tweaks , but overall I think the chain’s new Cravings Value Menu has a lot to offer.

Taco Bell has been delivering exciting new menu items pretty consistently, and I can’t wait to see what we get next.

What Happened To The Grilled Stuft Burrito

Taco Bell eventually discontinued the Grilled Stuft Burrito and later around 2009 Taco Bell Launched an XXL Grilled Stuft Burrito with seasoned beef, a three-cheese blend, rice, refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, and avocado ranch. It wasnt the same anymore and certainly didnt meet the expectations of the original. As of a result, both toasted burritos are discontinued today.

Thankfully, Taco Bell sells Baja Sauce in squeezable bottles right in the Mexican aisle of major Grocery Stores So, bringing back Grilled Stuft Burritos is possible! And if you cant find Baja Sauce just make my Creamy Jalapeño Sauce!

Furthermore, if you dont own a Panini Press just use a skillet to toast each side. These Burritos come together so quickly and taste like Original Grilled Stuffed Burritos Id order back in the day! So happy I can make them at home for a fraction of the price!

Unfortunately The Beefy Melt Burrito Was A Pretty Big Disappointment

The burrito ended up being as dry as it looked. I couldn’t taste the nacho cheese sauce at all and barely got any beef. At first, I thought I was given a vegetarian burrito instead, until I saw a few shredded pieces of meat hidden under the rice.

Overall, the burrito just didn’t have much going for it. There was no real flavor except for the rice and definitely not enough cheese, meat, or sauce.

Thankfully, though, the two Taco Bell burritos that followed were vast improvements.

Chicken Caesar Grilled Stuft Burrito

The Chicken Caesar Grilled Stuft Burrito was a burrito containing chicken, crunchy red strips, romaine lettuce, and Caesar dressing. It was available in the United States during summer 2003, and made a limited-edition return to Canada in 2008.

The former menu item has a large cult following through several revival campaign pages on Facebook, and it tops practically every “bring back an item” list.
