Applebee’s Bar And Grill On Portage Avenue In South Bend Closed
SOUTH BEND Applebees Bar and Grill located on South Bends north side closed its doors Tuesday, making it the second location in the area to abruptly cease its operations within a year.
In August 2017, the Tribune reported the Applebees located at 4515 Lincoln Way E. in Mishawaka closed suddenly. Now, the 3703 Portage Ave. location in South Bend has apparently suffered the same fate.
We greatly appreciate our neighbors patronage and look forward to continuing to serve guests at the nearby Applebees restaurants in the area, said Robin Jenkins in an email. Jenkins is the brand manager and team member of guest engagement for RMH Franchise Holdings, the Atlanta-based company that operates Applebees locations in 15 states, including Indiana. The franchise owns five other Applebees in Granger, South Bend, Plymouth, Goshen and Elkhart.
Jenkins was not able to provide information regarding when employees were notified and how many were affected. She did say, however, that all employees were offered employment at other area locations.
In May, RMH filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and as a result, the Portage Avenue and Lincoln Way locations were not the only recent abrupt closings of the neighborhood restaurants the company owns. Another location in Dayton, Ohio, also closed abruptly Saturday, the Dayton Daily News reported. Coupons were handed out at the Portage Avenue and Ohio locations, referring customers to other Applebees in the areas.
