This 70+ year old diner is one of the “best of the best” especially thanks to their Short Rib Dinners and Veal Parmesan. It’s simply blows us away that these guys have been serving folks since 1939 and continue to this day a 24-hour operation. That is true dedication and one of the reasons we’ll always return here when in Illinois. Excellent, friendly service each time you visit and the food will always come out fast and hot! Charming decor and a nice relaxed joint that makes you feel at home. Without question, it’s one of those places that you truly have to visit more than once to simply get a glimpse of the amazing menu. Besides, what other place can you visit that makes freshly prepared waffles at 3 in the morning? Ahh and yes, don’t forget to wash it down with one of their milk shakes. We are avid fans of Diner’s, Drive-in’s and Dives. When we go on family trips we incorporate DDD into our vacation. Our trip to Chicago was no different and we thought a diner would be good since DDD was there. We wanted to visit other restaurants too but didn’t have the time. We went to White Palace the first night we were in town . We were seated right away which was a great start. Well, we were actually disappointed in our meal. Waitress couldn’t get the drink order correctly and it took a while for that. We ordered the greek chicken and it was fair at best. This is the one meal that was premiered and we thought this should be the way to go. Also ordered a burger and it was above average. The salads were very fresh and tasty and good sized too for a side salad. The vegetables for the entree were canned. I think if we were there to order burgers or breakfast food, we would have a different opinion. We saw other family members there too who obviously are fans of DDD and were following a similar plan as we were. Staff was friendly but could have been a bit more attentive to our orders for drinks and so forth. We thought the prices were a good value. Overall, a typical diner fare that was average for the meals we ate.

City Of Chicago Temporarily Shuts Down Popular White Palace Grill Over Safety Concerns
The city of Chicago temporarily shut down the popular White Palace Grill in the South Loop over safety concerns.
CHICAGO — The White Palace Grill has been shut down temporarily by the city over safety issues.
According to the city, the popular 24-hour diner was closed for issues including no emergency lights, no working smoke detectors, expired fire extinguishers and water coming in through light fixtures.
The restaurant announced the closure on its Facebook page Tuesday citing building violations but said it hoped to reopen soon.
“White Palace is temporarily closed to address notices received about building violations,” the restaurant wrote on its Facebook page. “We look forward to reopening soon and welcoming you back as soon as possible! Thank you for your business!”
The grill has been open since 1939 at Canal and Roosevelt, just east of the Dan Ryan Expressway.
