Capacity Of The Traeger Pro Series 34 Pellet Smoker

Review Traeger Grills Pro Series 34 Electric Wood Pellet Grill & Smoker 2022

I hope youre hungry because the Traeger Pro 34 is the largest in the Pro Series Range. Offering 884 square inches set over two porcelain-coated racks, this smoker can fit eight chickens, forty burgers or seven racks of ribs.

The pellet hopper holds up to 18 pounds of pellets at a time, giving you about 20 hours of smoking time in good weather conditions.

To handle all that weight, the Pro 34 has a really robust body with all-terrain legs. Wheel it in and out of the garage all summer long, or, keep it outdoors with the matching Traeger BAC380 cover.

If 884 square inches in too big for you, the Traeger Pro Series 22 is just a smaller version of this classic.

When I started on the Traeger pro series 34 review I did not know what to expect.

I was nicely surprised by all the positive things I read about this Traeger pellet grill.

As you can read later I gave this pellet grill a 4.6-star rating and I recommend it as a great buy It is in between the lower-priced and the higher-priced pellet grills and smokers.

Very nice price for all the features you get and large enough for an average-sized family and a few guests.

What Is The Difference

Cooking with the Pro Series 34 is not the same as using propane or charcoal grills. If you have only ever used propane or charcoal, you will have to make some adjustments. Not to worry, though, as the learning curve is very quick. You also have access to dedicated support groups on the internet and the Traeger website to help you answer any questions and get cooking ideas.

Pellet grills heat up slower than propane and charcoal. But, when they get to heat, it will be constantly maintained and prevent hot spots from developing.

Traeger Pro Series 34 Review: Get Grilling

Yes, there are a ton of grills on the market, and many will probably do similar things.

I used this $1,000 grill for six months, and its been great overall. It slow cooks wonderfully, maintaining low temps for hours on end. The integrated meat probes provide accurate temps to tell you when food is cooked without even opening the lid.

Smoking meat is easy. The results are delicious.

This grills biggest weakness is its inability to reach high temperatures. It takes time to get it above 400 degrees. Ive compensated in my cooking style, with fabulous results.

If youre looking for a high-end grill to cook meals for a family or more, this model is a solid choice that should last for a long time. And thanks to its low temp and smoking ability, its a versatile choice for those who cook lots of wild game and fish or more common store-bought fare.

Pellet Capacity And Consumption

Traeger Pro Series 34 Wood Pellet 49 in. H Grill Bronze 36 000 BTU ...

The larger the pellet chamber, the less often youll have to add fuel. Typically, the hopper on an average-sized pellet grill will hold around 15 to 20 pounds of pellets. If the unit is working efficiently, it should burn one pound of pellets per hour on average. Note that this number increases at higher temperatures, and decreases slightly for low-and-slow cooking applications such as smoking and barbecuing.

    Material Of The Grate

Traeger Wood Fired Grills | Are they WORTH IT | PRO Series 34

The second thing I always like to know is the material of the grates. The reason is that this is where your food will be on and some materials stick worse than others. it also has an effect on how easy it is to clean the grill grates.

The material that the Traeger pro series 34 uses is enamel-coated steel. I read several times that this material is very easy to clean and is pretty much non-stick. A big pro in my opinion. On the website, they call it porcelain-coated, my favorite.

Customer Reviews Of The Traeger Pro Series 34

This is always my favorite part if I did not have the chance to use a smoker myself. It is time-consuming but worth every minute. This Traeger pro series 34 review is no exception. I found a ton of valuable information to justify my 4.6-star rating.

The first thing I noticed was the low number of people who gave it a bad rating compared to many other smokers I reviewed.

Temperature settings on the new AGL controller range from smoke to 180 and then in steps up to 350 Fahrenheit. After that, the only higher setting is called high and I read that it depends on the outside temperature on how hot it will get.

Opening the lid will still drop the temperature, like all smokers, and after that when the controller kicks in a spike in temperature can happen. With the two new probes, there is however no need to open the lid anymore.

The variety of meat that people cooked on the Traeger 34 is a never-ending list. I even read someone cooked antelope on it.

The new sawhorse design makes it a very sturdy smoking machine and it seems like the grill is very well balanced for moving. The large wheels are also a big part of this. The smaller wheels are on the part that you lift up while moving it.

The internal temperature probe is placed close to the wall and outside temperature can sometimes influence the accuracy. A tip I found is to place a paper towel between the probe and the wall.

I read that the use of the Traeger BAC345 insulation blanket is a great solution for this.

My Opinion Of The Traeger Pro Series 34 Pellet Grill

After doing the Traeger pro series 34 review you can read here what I think of it and why I gave it a 4.6 rating.Overall this pellet grill gives a good bang for your bucks. I think it is a perfect model in between the lower-priced and the higher-priced pellet grills on the market.

It does not come with a PID controller but a so-called AGL controller. The difference is that PID constantly adjusts the speed of the auger that feeds the pellets and the AGL reads all the time but adjusts only once a minute. Overall it keeps the temperature at 15 degrees of the setpoint and is a very big upgrade from the old PD controller.

I think that the LED panel with its bright blue numbers is easy to read. And the controls are easy to use. Setting the temperature is as easy as on your kitchen oven. Some people advised keeping the grill open while it is in start-up mode. This makes it get on temperature faster they claim.

the use of pellets is still something I think you have to include in a review of a pellet grill or smoker. When you use it a lot it can add up.What I found as an average use of pellets for the Traeger pro series 34 are:

    • High heat uses about 2 lbs an hour
    • Medium heat uses about 1 lb an hour
    • Low heat use about 1/2 lbs an hour

I think this is a big plus because most of the time you will put it back in the garage or shed after use because of the electronics in the unit. What I found is that the legs are made pretty thick, which makes it even easier to move.

Don’t Miss: How To Keep Mice Out Of Grill

Using The Traeger Tfb88pzbo Pro Series 34

Featuring Traegers tried and true Digital Pro Controller with Advanced Grilling Logic, the Pro Series 34 smoker takes 60 temperature readings per second to stay within +/- 15°F of your target temperature.

Whether its low and slow, or maxing out at 400 or so degrees, the LED display will allow you keep tabs on your cook with nothing more than a cursory glance.

The Pro Series 34 really is a true set and forget smoker. Traeger prides itself on consistent temperatures to give reliable results and the reason theyve kept this 2018 best selling barbecue current is that it does just that.

A super-easy clean-up is a reality too on the Traeger Pro Series 34 Pellet Grill. The porcelain plates take seconds to wipe down. Grease, which has been funneled into the drip tray, can be quickly disposed of. And, what little ash is produced can be swept out quickly.
