How To Tell When The Brisket Is Done

The Best Way to Keep Your Z Grills Clean

How will I know the brisket is done? Insert your probe thermometer. The probe thermometer will probably read between 200 and 205 degrees Fahrenheit once your Brisket has reached that level. Allow the meat rest for some hours.

Its best is to rely on a thermometer because the physical look can deceive you if this is your first smoked Brisket. Smoked Brisket gets its signature bark from the reaction, which explains how seared meat gets its taste and look. When you burn meat at high temperatures, the sugars in the meat caramelize within some minutes. Over time, the same thing happens when you smoke your brisket at low temperatures.

Simply put, the sugars in the meat to form a crust in your spice rub. Only some rubric elements will penetrate the surface of the meat and take some of the flavors with it.

Most of the rub will remain on the outermost part and infuse with the layers forming there. When the spices and caramelizing layers contact the smoke, the bark begins to turn a very dark color.

Identify Your Grill Type

Hopefully I didnt scare you off! I just want to make sure everyone is safe. If youre still with me, the first thing to figure out is what type of grill you have access to. Typically, youre dealing with gas, propane, electric, or charcoal. Curious about which one you have? The simplest one to identify is the electric grill. Why? Because they have cords that need to be plugged into outlets. If you have a grill that has a cord, you have an electric grill. Confident you dont have an electric grill? Try looking beneath your grilling unit. If you see a tank, you likely have a propane grill. Dont see a cord or a tank? Check the grill face. Do you see knobs and buttons? Then you probably have a gas grill. Different from the propane grill, these tap into your houses natural gas supply, so you dont have to worry about running out of cooking fuel like you do with propane. Lastly, if your grill is super basicno knobs, no buttonsand looks like a hollowed-out drum, you likely have a charcoal grill.

PREP TIME: 2 HOURS

YIELDS: 2 Pizza Crusts

INGREDIENTS:

  • 225ml Warm water
  • 1 sachet fast-action yeast
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 3.5 cups flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • Optional: 3 tbsp melted butter and 1tbsp olive oil

DIRECTIONS:

  • Add 3.5 cups of flour, salt, and melted butter, if desired. Set your mixer to a low speed, or combine with a wooden spoon or spatula until its combined.
  • Remove the dough from the bowl and sprinkle flour over a flat surface and knead by hand. If its still sticky after 5 minutes, sprinkle a little flour over the dough and knead. Repeat as necessary until the dough is springy, bouncing back when you poke it. If youre using a mixer, increase mixer speed to low-medium, and then knead the dough by hand until it is smooth and elastic, usually about 5-10 minutes.
  • Spray the inside of a large bowl with cooking oil and place your dough inside. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel. Leave it in a warm place until it has doubled in size. This usually takes 1-1.5 hours.
  • Remove the dough and cut it in two. For the best results, wrap the balls in plastic wrap and put them in the refrigerator overnight, or for a few days. You can use the dough immediately, however. You can also place the dough in the freezer for future use.

    Where To Buy Z Grills

There are several places where you can buy Z-grills. However, I recommend two places that give in my opinion the best prices.

Not all models are available and shipping might take some time so this is not my first choice. You cant use their discounts.

All models are available of course, sometimes I see a model being sold out here.

I had several good looks at both over a period of time and the Z-grills website usually has more deals and discounts.

What Makes These Recipes So Good

There are many factors that come into play that make food prepared on a pellet grill taste so good. First, the ability to cook evenly and prevent over-smoking is paramount. The smoke flavor that you do get is subtler than the harsh and sometimes bitter smoke you get from traditional wood or charcoal. The positioning of the wood is also an option. Should you prefer more of a smoky flavor, you just need to place your favorite hardwood chunks or poaches of soaked wood chips directly on the heat diffuser plate. Should you prefer a less smoky flavor, just avoid this step and/or choose a more neutral wood pellet.

Pellets are available in several different flavors so you can be sure to find an option that best suits even the pickiest of eaters. Flavors like pecan, hickory, alder, mesquite, apple, maple, and more can be mixed together or changed in a matter of moments. The traditional 20-pound bag can be used for several different meals.Slow cooking is the key to keeping your food moist and tender. By cooking your food slowly, you bring up the temperature in the center with less risk of overcooking the outside. This process minimizes the loss of juices and fat, locking in the moist and flavorful juices that make outdoor cooking so special.

Z Grills Review Traeger Or Z Grill

So the question is do I recommend the Traeger or is the Z Grill the real deal and a great alternative to the Traeger?

Before I answer this question I kept talking about how the Z Grill looks like the Traeger. Well, it turns out, they have more in common than you think. Actually, one does or use to make smokers for the other one, want to guess? Yes, Z Grills makes the Traeger, or at least use to. So when you get the Z Grill, you are pretty much getting a Traeger quality smoker

If you have been following us, you know I love the Traeger. I use it all the time and its been very reliable. So for me, it has always been hard to knock off the Traeger.

If I compare them side by side, which they are different models and not comparing apples to apples . The Traeger has WIFI capabilities and is better if you have to move it around. However, the Z Grills has a better price and many better features that the more expensive Trager does not. So if I had to pick between these two grills, I would have to go with the Z Grill, even without the WIFI capability. Both systems are high quality and easy to use but I like the features on the Z Grill better.

When I compare like models to each other, I think the Z Grill has the upper hand as both are high quality and great smokers. But it seems like the Z Grill usually has a better price.

    Where Are Z Grills Made

This is a tricky one actually. There is no info on the Z Grills website that I could find, which is a little dubious because it seems like they are maybe trying to hide it?

However, I did find a post by BBQdryrubs who was clever enough to grab a screenshot a while back when the company did mention that

we are a US-based brand that has been making high-quality grills and smoker for 30 years.

    And:

Weve made grills for other brands you may have heard of: Traeger, Rankam, Landmann, and Kenmore.

So, despite this still not mentioning where z grills are made, if you think the Traeger is a good-quality grill , youre in pretty safe hands with the z grill.

    You Cook At Higher Temperature

    Z GRILLS ZPG

A grill produces more smoke when you set it at a low and slow temperature. When you set the cooking temperature to a high setting, the grill burns the pellets cleanly to cook the meat evenly. In this case, you will see no visible smoke.

Note: Getting a small amount of smoke doesnt mean it affects the cooking output. It only helps to gain the smokey flavor.

However, how much smoke you will get depends on what you are cooking. For example, you should cook a lamb rib at a slow temperature , and you will see the smoke. On the other hand, you will notice no smoke if you cook the steak as it requires 450F temperatures. Here you can watch the video to have a better idea for Z grill smoke settings.

    Smoked Brisket Rub & Injections

Well, peoples tastes vary some like injecting their meat for tenderness others prefer to keep the meat au naturel. You can go either way, but we recommend trying an injection. Through this, youll taste the difference. If you want to start simple, inject the Brisket with beef broth.

If you want to do what the outdoor seasoned chef does, combine 1 cup of beef broth and two tablespoons of phosphates. The major work of the phosphates is to absorb the moisture. You can also add some rub to your broth if the grains can fit perfectly into your injector.
