Steak On An Indoor Grill

How Do I Grill Steaks To Different Levels Of Doneness

Ribeye Steaks on the Chefman Electric Smokeless Indoor Grill

I’m lucky because both my husband and I like our steaks medium-rare, but that isn’t the case in all households. Maybe you like yours medium-rare and your husband or wife likes theirs well done.

No worries! Simply stagger the cooking based on the time table above. You want to add the steak that is to be cooked less time after you start grilling the steak that will need more time.

They should both be removed at the same time to rest so you both enjoy perfectly cooked steak and can eat together! This isn’t hard to figure out, here is how to do it.

Let’s say, you like your steak cooked medium rare and your husband/wife/partner/child likes a well done steak. Simply look at the total time that it will take for the well done steak to cook and subtract the total time that the medium rare steak will take to cook.

For example: I’m cooking a 1″ filet and I want it medium rare. Jeff wants his 1″ filet cooked well done.

The 1″ filet cooked to medium rare will take 8-9 minutes. The 1″ filet cooked well done will take 15-16 minutes.

15-8=7 minutes. So, I will cook the well done filet for 7 minutes and then add on the 1″ filet that will take 8-9 minutes. I go with the lower of the times because it’s always better to undercook than overcook.

Both filets will get to their target temp in about the same time and can be removed to rest and served together.

This will also work to determine cooking times for steaks that vary in thickness.

Thicker Steaks Should Slide Over

Most steaks grill beautifully over direct high heat alone. The only time you might need to move them is if/when they cause flare-ups. However, some steaks are so thick that if you left them over direct heat alone, they would burn on the outside before they reached the internal doneness you like.

If your steaks are much thicker than an inch, consider the sear and slide approach. After you have seared both sides nicely over direct high heat, slide the steaks to a part of the grill that is not so hot, perhaps over indirect heat, and finish cooking them safely there.

Ingredients To Grill Steak

  • Ribeye or New York Strip Steaks: This recipe uses steaks about 1 to 1 1/2 in thick steaks. The thicker the steak, the longer it will need to cook. These cuts are widely available, have a great balance of tender meat, and enough marbling, i.e., fat, for fantastic flavor.
  • Avocado oil: Avocado oil has a high flash point meaning it can be heated to a high temperature before breaking down or burning so it is perfect for grilling. Substitutes include safflower oil or sesame oil. Sesame oil adds sesame flavor. This is great if you are going with Asian flavors for your meal.
  • Butter: Butter adds a layer of richness and moisture at the end, but it is optional.
  • Salt and pepper: Seasonings contribute to the brown crust that creates so much flavor for a steak. The salt, especially, draws juices to the outside of the meat, helping the crust form. Other spices popular for steak rubs include garlic and onion powder, smoked paprika, cumin, thyme, or oregano. Some rub recipes add brown sugar, but use it sparingly and know that sugar burns easily and can contribute to over-browning and flare-ups.

How To Cook Chicken On Hamilton Beach Indoor Grill

Hamilton Beach Steak Lover

To cook chicken on a Hamilton Beach indoor grill, first preheat the grill by pressing the power button and then the preheat button. Next, spray the grill pan with cooking spray and place the chicken on the pan. Close the lid of the grill and cook the chicken for 8-10 minutes, or until cooked through. When the chicken is done, remove it from the grill pan and enjoy!

It is always a good idea to preheat the grill ahead of time when grilling chicken. Grilling chicken requires heavy-duty tongs, grill gloves, a timer, and an instant-read thermometer. When there is a two-zone fire, direct and indirect heat sources are created. It is especially true for chicken, as adding sweet sauces can make it more prone to flare-ups. Grilling chicken is less difficult than grilling beef and pork. Grilling the chicken at 350o to 450o F on direct or indirect medium heat is recommended. The only exception to this rule is smoking chicken.

To grill chicken wings, grill them directly over low heat 225o to 250o F with indirect smoking. First, lets look at the wing itself. Wings can be left whole or separated into flats or drumettes depending on the needs of the animal. Grilling thighs, drumsticks, and breasts is one of my favorite ways to cook because they are difficult to overcook and are more flavorful than breast meat.

Tips For Grilling Steak

  • Dry steak means seared steaks: Drying off the steak prepares the surface for crusting on the grill.
  • Scrape and clean your grill: Make sure your grill is nice and clean, so the residue of your last meal and extra charcoal bits do not cling to your steak. Too many burnt remains are not good for you.
  • Stay put and use a timer: Steaks cook quickly, give them your full attention and stand by the grill. A quick run into the kitchen can turn into a few minutes, and before you know it, your steaks have gone from juicy pink and medium-rare to dull gray and overdone.
  • Test for doneness: No instant-read thermometer? Then, try the press test. A raw steak will feel like the fleshy part of your palm, right beneath your thumb. Press that part with the index finger of your opposite hand. Now, touch your middle finger and thumb together and press in the same spot feeling how the flesh firms up. That is what a medium-rare steak feels like. It helps to press the raw steak prior to cooking for a baseline feel.
  • Zush up the butter: A fun way to pump up the flavor is to add minced fresh herbs, like oregano, thyme, or parsley, and some minced garlic to the butter.
  • Rest is important: Treat the steaks like toddlers. They need a quick nap. While the steak rests, the temperature continues to climb for the first few minutes, and the juices reabsorb into the meat. If you cut the meat right away, all that deliciousness runs out onto the cutting board.

How To Grill The Perfect Steak On Power Smokeless Grill

I might say that cooking your steak on Power Smokeless Grill is a perfect duo beyond perfection, I guess. I was personally amazed by the texture and tenderness of the steak that I cooked. I am immensely glad to share my experience with you guys.

Well to my surprise I was quite delighted with the experience. There was no hustle and bustle nothing to worry about easy as ABC. I placed and attached every part carefully as mentioned in the instructions booklet. Further, I attached the power cable in my Kitchens switch. Before placing the raw steak on the grilling plate, I switched on the temperature at 300 Fahrenheit so that the plate gets warm. I cooked and grilled the flat iron steaks in the Power Smokeless Grill that were kept marinated for about a couple of hours with salt, black pepper, olive oil, and garlic.

The grill marks on the steaks were amazing. They were dark brownish and prominent. The Steak was tender, soft, juicy and grilled astonishingly. For every side, I just grilled the steaks for four minutes without covering it with the lid. After doing both sides I covered the lid of the grill until they were medium rare or tender. Now I reduced the temperature to 150 Fahrenheit. It took about 13 to 14 minutes to cook the steak. Plus points were that the marination didnt burn at all and there was nil smoke in the Kitchen.

Easy Grilled Beef Steak With Garlic Butter Recipe

Here is a beef steak recipe that you will want to make again and again on your George Foreman Grill or any other panini press or electric indoor grill. The ingredients are simple and the preparation is quick. This grilled steak is flavorful, juicy, and tender. You wont believe its not from an upscale steakhouse.

The most popular cut of steak for this recipe is ribeye. If you are looking to save a few dollars, you could substitute sirloin for ribeye. It is best to grill a steak that is approximately 3/4? to 1 in thickness for proper cooking.

Are Sear Marks Just For Looks

    Indoor Grill

No, they arent. Will a steak be delicious if you dont get sear marks. Certainly. Do sear marks increase the flavor of a steak. Yes, they do.

Sear marks are gorgeous on a steak. Especially when you get them perfect. Something I am not very good at, but managed to pull off on this steak.

More important than looks, is the science behind the grill marks. Where you see those dark lines, the maillard reaction has occurred.

The maillard reaction is a series of chemical reactions that occurs in cooking when the proteins and sugars on and in food begin to change as a result of heat being applied.

The maillard reaction is responsible for flavor in so many foods, not just the sear on a steak. Its the maillard reaction happening in browning onions that impart that flavor we all know and love in a really good French Onion Soup.

Its the maillard reaction that happens as sweetened condensed milk is cooked and turns brown and we call it Dulce de leche.

Its the maillard reaction that happens on top of a golden brown biscuit or a muffin top that is the best part of either one.

This is why many chefs do a full sear on their steaks instead of using a grill. They increase the surface area that benefits from the maillard reaction.

The look doesnt matter as far as flavor goes, but I have found that the Sear N Sizzle grill grate does produce a juicier and more flavorful steak. Why?

How To Use The Electric Grill

You can easily grill a steak if you take into consideration the electric grilling time. First, make sure you heat your grill before laying your meat on it. To know if your grill is ready, just hold your hand about 5 inches/13 cm from the heat source. Count the seconds you can keep your hand there comfortably without it getting too hot. If you cant count more than 3 or 4 seconds it means that the grill is hot enough, and you can throw the steak on it.

These things are good to know, but thats not the only secret for a perfect steak. Most of all, the electric grilling time for steaks depends on your meat. And dont forget that electric grills are available in two types: ones with grill surfaces on both sides and ones with only one cooking surface. And, as you can imagine, their cooking times differ.

When you want to make a steak using your electric grill, make sure you heat it before laying your meat on it.

    A Complete Grilled Ribeye Meal

Now, lets get to the recipe and also explore foods and beverages that pair well with a grilled steak with garlic butter.

I am personally fond of a green vegetable and some form of starch with my steak, just as you would find at a classic steakhouse. Simple grilled broccolini and easy classic mashed potatoes come to mind. The entire meal would be terrific with a glass of cabernet sauvignon or even a cold dark beer, if so inclined.

Peel and start boiling your potatoes while the steak is coming to room temperature. Then, make the broccolini and keep that in a low oven while the steak grills. Mash the potatoes while the steaks are grilling and resting.
