Southbound A Bar With A Country Vibe Comes To South Springfield
The latest Ozarks watering hole to promise a “country vibe,” in the words of co-owner Jodi Dalmas, is Southbound Bar & Grill.
Dalmas has been in the bar business about 16 years, she said. Like the servers of Southbound, she sports a red plaid shirt, denim shorts and cowboy boots. “That’s our uniform,” she said.
She opened Southbound March 2 with co-owner Michael Goldsmith. The name was inspired by a toll-booth ticket stamped “Eastbound” that Dalmas paid while on her way back from a trip to Texas.
The bar and grill is located at 5739 S. Campbell Ave., off the southbound side of the road. It’s in a shopping strip commanding a woodsy view toward Nixa, not far from Farm Road 186.
Dalmas said her bar is a nonsmoking, commuter-friendly place. The real estate was previously occupied by Challengers Sports Bar & Grill Dalmas declined to disclose her and Goldsmith’s investment in opening the bar.
Southbound serves a pub menu of items made from scratch like burgers, chicken strips and fries from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
It’s the kind of place that calls ladies’ night Thursdays “Cowgirls’ Night,” Dalmas said.
She and Goldsmith plan to host a variety of live music acts Thursday through Saturday nights, not all of them country. Dan Conklin and the Regulators will be there 8 p.m. each Thursday while The Mixtapes will play their signature ’90s covers April 1 at 9 p.m. Live music on Fridays and Saturdays will have a cover charge of $5 to $10, depending on the act, Dalmas said.
