Studio Movie Grill Emerges From Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
Studio Movie Grill has exited bankruptcy, it announced Wednesday, after filing for Chapter 11 in October due to effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In its Wednesday announcement, the Dallas-based, dine-in movie theater chain said that as it emerges from bankruptcy, its still operating 17 locations in five states, with plans to open two more in other states in the next six weeks. It operated 34 locations in 10 states prior to the pandemic. The company will also complete construction later this year on a 14-screen location in Georgia.
Additionally, CFO/COO Ted Croft, whos been at the company for a decade, will take over as chief executive, replacing founder and former CEO Brian Schultz. According to the release, Croft has secured funding for the theaters growth since 2011 and will now lead its profitability and sustainability as CEO.

Studio Movie Grill To Open In Alpharetta
Dallas-based Studio Movie Grill will open a new theater in Alpharetta this winter.
The 14-screen luxury dine-in theater is scheduled to open Jan. 13 at 7730 North Point Parkway with the new 2022 film Scream.
The movie house is located at the former AMC Entertainment theaters, and will have 1,300 custom-made reclining and rocking seats, a full-service bar and lounge offering a neighborhood feel, and a complete grill menu, a statement said.
Alpharetta will be Studio Movie Grills 21st location in seven states. Locally, the company operates the brand in Marietta and Duluth.
Tearlach Hutcheson, vice president of film for the company, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that films streaming on online platforms on the same day of theatrical release have not deterred audiences that prefer to see films at the theater.
Hutcheson said he expects The Matrix Resurrections to be the last film to stream on the same day it premieres in theaters.
We truly believe the is the best way to watch a film, he said.
The ongoing pandemic has reduced audiences, but most say they are ready to return.
In October, Civicscience.com, which tracks consumer habits, found 54% of 60,000 adults surveyed said they were comfortable returning to movie theaters in two to three weeks. Another 10% said they would be ready to return by February and 36% pointed to springtime or beyond.

Studio Movie Grill To Open Third Atlanta
Studio Movie Grill will open its latest prototype flagship theater, SMG North Point, in Alpharetta, Georgia on January 13, 2022, as announced in a press release Tuesday . The theater will open nine months after the dine-in exhibitor emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy this past April.
Located at Mansell Crossing just northeast of the intersection of North Point Parkway and Mansell Road SMG North Point will be Studio Movie Grills twenty-first theater in seven states and its third location in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The theater will boast over 1,300 luxury recliners in 14 auditoriums equipped with Dolby 3D and Q-SYS custom sound systems, along with a full-service bar and lounge and made-to-order American Grill menu. Like all Studio Movie Grill locations, SMG North Point will participate in Special Needs Screenings, which are free for children with special needs and their siblings.
SMG North Point is currently looking to fill hourly positions in a number of roles. The hiring office can be found at 7431 North Point Parkway, Suite 1310, in Alpharetta. It will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Prospective employees can apply online via the SMG website or in person at the hiring office.

Studio Movie Grill Gets Back To The Movie Business
Studio Movie Grill, which lost much of its business when the country locked down last year and studios stopped releasing movies, is coming out of its pandemic shell.
The Dallas-based company last month emerged from bankruptcy. On Wednesday it named a new CEO in longtime CFO Ted Croft. It is currently operating 17 locations and plans to open two more, in Indianapolis on April 29 and in Philadelphia on May 27.
It hopes that vaccines and the release of more movies, along with a bit of pent-up demand, will bring people to its movie theaters with full restaurant menus.
Studio Movie Grill was one of the fastest-growing companies of its kind more than a year ago but the pandemic drained its cash reserves. The company had just $100,000 in cash when it declared bankruptcy in October.
It also had 33 locations. The company will emerge with a smaller number of locations, though it expects to complete construction on a new location near a large mall in Alpharetta, Ga., later this year.

No Way To Preview Menu
We are going this Saturday for the special needs showing, and I want to preview the menu at home before we go. The problem is that theres no way to just look at the menu without going through the ordering process and selecting your seats and they dont sell tickets for the SN showing online. For that matter, even if we were buying tickets to a regular showing, I would probably want to see the menu first before ordering tickets. Weve been coming to SMG regularly for years, but this is our first time since covid, and we have no idea if the menu has changed or if well be able to order our old favorites. It would be nice to be able to see the menu without having to go through the whole order process.
