Dansons Files Suit In 2019

On July 16, Traeger Pellet Grills filed a lawsuit against Joe, Brian and Mark Traeger in a Florida district court Randy Traeger died in 2017 alleging they were selling their brand and likeness a second time since selling their company in 2006.

That same day Traeger Pellet Grills filed a similar lawsuit against Dansons in Arizona District Court, alleging improper conduct and unfair competition on the part of Dansons for using the Traeger family members in promoting Pit Boss and Louisiana Grills.

The suits ask for unspecified monetary damages, and for the Traegers and the Traeger barn to no longer be used in marketing for Dansons.

While we welcome fair competition, Dansons multi-year effort to copy Traeger through the illegal use of names, likenesses and unique design elements is confusing to customers and damaging to our company, Andrus said in a press release.

Dry All The Parts Thoroughly

After cleaning the grill, its essential to dry it out completely. This is because the grill inside contains electrical components such as; RTD temperature probe, fire pot, auger, etc., prone to rust.;

If any of the electrical parts come into contact with water, they will rust quickly.;

Always check the small crevices to ensure there is no water left behind. I always use paper towels to wipe up all the parts on the inside to ensure there is no moisture.;

Benefits Of Choosing A Wood Pellet Grill From Pit Boss

Wood pellet grills are one of the most versatile products available in the marketplace today. Whether you choose Pit Boss or another brand for your needs, the fuel operates with less smoke while creating a hotter internal temperature. The result is similar to what youd experience with a convection oven.

If that advantage isnt enough to convince you too look at a wood pellet grill, here are some additional benefits that come with this investment.

1. Wood pellet grills cook food fast.

The pre-heating cycle for a wood pellet grill is significantly faster than it is for charcoal, propane, or natural gas. You can save up to ten minutes by using this approach without sacrificing the quality of the grilling experience. It also cooks faster so that you can have a significantly higher food output for social gatherings or a large family get-together.

2. The design offers improved temperature regulation.

Wood pellet grills provide a consistent temperature within the chamber. Instead of having temperature controls at the top of the unit, most manufacturers place this feature near the fuel source so that you have a better idea of what to expect with your food. It doesnt go through the same fluctuations that happen with charcoal and some propane designs.

3. You receive a smooth cooking experience.

4. A variety of wood pellet choices are available to use.

5. You may have an option to use a cold smoker.

They were the first manufacturers to venture into pellet smokers after the expiration of the Traeger patent.

Are Pit Boss Grills Any Good

  • Can I use my pit boss pellet grill in the rain?
  • Wood-pellet grills give you the flavor of food cooked over hardwood while allowing for good temperature control. Pit Boss pellets have more of a reputation for turning to unusable sawdust, but overall people dont have a problem with them, and they are cheaper than Traeger pellets.

    Pit Boss Sportsman 820 Wood Pellet Grill

    The Sportsman 820 is one of the newest releases from Pit Boss and packs plenty of features at a budget-friendly price.

    In our review, we pointed out the generous size for the price, with 829 square inches of cooking space split between a primary and a secondary grate.

    Theres also the 21 lb hopper with a window to keep an eye on your pellet level, and an easy way to drain unused pellets at the end of a cook.

    You can check out all the features and what we thought in more detail in our video review below.

    The only real negatives with the Sportsman was the small searing zone, which is common with most slide and sear systems, and the rounded diverter plate, which we found affected our ability to collect drippings.

    If you dont want the option to control your grill via an app, then the Sportsman is cheaper, holds more food and comes with better storage and prep areas than the Traeger.

    Overview Of The Traeger Brand

    Traeger are the innovators behind the original wood pellet grill. Designed by founder Joe Traeger in 1985 and patented in 1986, Traegers 100% wood-smoked barbecue revolutionized the industry with its set and forget operation.

    Patenting the design meant that Traeger had a monopoly over the market as they established themselves as a premium brand with a product that took the fuss out of home smoking and their popularity, understandably, soared.

    Once their patent expired in 2006, other barbecue manufacturers raced into the market, fueling innovation and price competition. And, although theres now have a lot of pellet grill brands to choose from, Traeger are still one of the best-selling companies, backed by their premium image as the original and best.

    The company, Traeger, is no longer a family-owned business. Interestingly, Joe Traeger sold it in 2006 and now works for rival company, Dansons, the owners of Pit Boss.

    Where are Traeger grills made?

    Traeger were originally made in the US but have since moved their manufacturing to China like most competing companies.

    Pellet Grills Made In Usa

    Below is the list of pellet grills that are currently being manufactured in the USA as of July 2021.

    Contact me if you notice a pellet grill brand missing from this list that manufactures their grills in the USA and I will add them to this list.

    As mentioned above, these manufacturers may start producing their grills overseas if they need to cut costs so make sure to double check that the pellet grill is made in the USA before purchasing it.

    The Pros And Cons Of Pellet Grills

    The biggest pro to investing in a pellet grill versus other types of grills is its simplicity, according to Lampe. The cooker does all the work and makes it pretty easy to cook barbecue, he explained.

    Marks agreed that when it comes to ease of use and consistency, a pellet grill wins. Temperature control produced by a pellet grill makes a huge difference for the average Joe, he added. If you want to have a great barbeque with a reasonable amount of work while still being able to enjoy your friends and family when they are over, a pellet grill is the best way to go with the most amount of success and the least amount of stress.

    However, the biggest potential downside is that it’s a mechanical device, so if theres a loss of power or a malfunction, that can disrupt your day of cooking. Good maintenance helps with this, Lampe added. A long-time BBQ pro might like to play with the fire while theyre cooking, but a pellet cooker means there is really no need to tend your fire constantly making it perfect for an at-home cook.

    To help prevent this, he emphasized the importance of keeping your pellet grill dry and protected from the elements with a secure cover. If the electronics get wet they can short out and the replacement parts for those panels generally are not under warranty, as you the owner are responsible for proper care, he said. Also, when pellets get wet they expand and then dry causing the auger to lock up.

    A To Z List Of Pellet Grill/smoker Brands

    Back in 2007 when I first become aware of pellet grills and smokers the only brand I was really aware of was Traeger. Traeger is really where this whole concept of cooking with pellets started in the 1980s. It was a slow burner but since the 2010s is really when pellet grills and smokers started to get mainstream awareness, discussed alongside gas and charcoal grills. There are now over 30 pellet grill/smoker brands that Im aware of, and the link above goes to my A to Z list of brands article.

    Now, you may already be aware of a few of the other brands such as Pit Boss, Camp Chef, Z Grills and Im sure you are aware of Weber, though you may not have known they have entered the pellet grill game. However, they are now many, many more brands to look into. Some may be what are commonly referred to as Traeger clones, but many others are offering their own unique designs and features.

    Overall Pit Boss Vs Traeger Winner

    Wood Pellet Grills and Smokers

    Choosing a winner between Pit Boss vs Traeger feels like splitting hairs.; At the end of the day, both brands are great and youd be doing well to add one to your outdoor cooking set up.

    If I;had to pick a winner though, Id give the nod to Traeger.; Pit Boss presents a slightly more affordable line of grills, however, I think the overall quality of Traegers are just a little bit better across the board.

    If money is less of a consideration for you, I think the best overall grill between the two brands is the Traeger Ironwood 885.; Its an all around hoss of a grill, but its just on the more expensive side of things.

    Like most of the grills we have rounded up here, the Navigator 1150 has many of the same features, like the 8 in 1, temp range, and the stainless-steel meat probes. What makes this grill different is the cooking space, which is 1158 square inches, so large enough to cook many meats and vegetables. For searing, there is an open flame searing up to 1000 degrees, making it so perfect for steaks.

    Theres also a large pellet view window, 32lb hopper capacity and pellet door cleanout. Like most of the grills on here, it also has the tool hooks, locking inline wheels. With this model, theres a side shelf so that you can put your tools down. Its a great grill if you want a large pellet grill thats run on 100% hardwood in your backyard.
