Cooking Advice For Natural Gas Grill Users

Wolf Stainless Steel Outdoor Built In Natural Gas Grill OG36 – Overview

Season the grill before using it for the first time. This you do by applying a little oil on the grid and heating the grill.

Create a roasting environment by keeping one burner on low or turning it off completely. If using a 2-burner grill, turn both burners to medium and place a rack inside the grill in the space between the burners to elevate your food so that itâs further from the heat source.

Burners And Heating Power

The burners of a built-in gas grill should be made of high-quality stainless steel. You dont want them to start cracking after a couple of years of use. The burners should also provide even heat across the grilling surface.

Having at least 3 individually controlled burners, preferably more, is required to create heat zones for indirect cooking. This is necessary when slow cooking large items like ribs and briskets.

Youll also need the grill to be able to heat up to 600 degrees plus with ease for proper searing.

BTUs and Heat Flux

The grilling power of gas grills is often measured in BTUs . One BTU is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit. While its important to have enough BTUs, this variable alone doesnt tell us much because.

Heat flux is a much better variable for telling if the grill actually has enough heating power because it also factors in the size of the grilling surface. A small grill doesnt require as many BTUs to get hot as a large one. The heat flux is calculated by dividing the BTUs of the grills main burners by the size of the main grilling area.

All models in this guide produce enough heat for the grill to get hot enough for searing in less than 10 minutes.

Why Buy A Built

  • Convenience – One of the defining qualities of all propane and natural gas built-in grills is their ease of use. While charcoal grills can require significant time and effort to start, a built-in natural gas or propane grill can be started with just the push of a button or the twist of a knob. If you want to get to grilling quickly and easily, a gas grill is the way to go.
  • Stability – While the above point is true of all gas grills, one of the primary selling points of having a gas grill built in is the stability and permanence it offers. You can truly transform your outdoor kitchen space by designing and building a dedicated grilling island.
  • Durability – The other major upside to a built-in barbecue grill is that they tend to last longer than similar freestanding models. Because they stay in one spot rather than being moved around, they suffer less wear and tear over the years, keeping them in pristine grilling condition and making them an excellent investment.

Can I Use A Regular Grill For A Built

Yes, it is possible to use a regular grill for a built-in, however, there are a few factors that you will need to assess before attempting to do so.

Some regular grills are designed with extending sides that can be used to store your foods or condiments when you are cooking. When they are not in use, they can then be folded. If this design applies to your grill you will need to remove them before installing it.

Also, if your grill is covered by a warranty it is important to check the terms of your policy as they will confirm whether your warranty is still going to be valid if you attempt to build in your regular grill.

How Often Should I Clean A Natural Gas Grill And Whats The Process

The frequency depends on how often you use the grill. Make sure you burn off food debris from the grids and brush off any remnants using a stainless-steel bristle brush. Empty the drip tray and wash it in warm soapy water to keep it clean.

A monthly thorough scrub down will keep your grill in top condition. To do so, remove grime from the burners using a wire brush by moving the brush in an up and down motion. Remove the cooking grates, flavorizers, and warming racks and wash them using warm soapy water. Rinse, dry, and return to the grill.

Why youll love it:

This is an excellent grill for the price, outshining a strangely more expensive but nearly identical model from the same brand. If you dont mind a smaller sized grill, this is an excellent option.

What we liked

  • Sturdy Construction: Hardy stainless-steel construction helps it weather the elements, and everything on this grill glides smoothly and easily. The interior is just as good, with proper channeling from the grill to the flame tamers to the grease trap, which is easy to remove and clean.
  • Burners: While it only has two, these 16, 000 BTU, U-shaped burners are excellent and evenly distribute heat across the two cooking surfaces this grill provides.
  • Ignition: Easy, single button, piezo ignition ensures that the grill starts up perfectly every time, and the grill is adjustable across all standard temperature ranges.
  • Warranty: This grill is provided with a 15-year warranty on all parts. While not as good as a lifetime, it is also better than the warranties with fine prints amounting to it not covering the most important pieces after 3 to 5 years.

What we didnt like

  • Size: As with the other American Grills model, 432 square inches is absolutely tiny for a built-in grill. I expect on average 550 square inches or more on a grill like this, in large part because that is enough space to support at least 3 different cooking surfaces. You lose a lot of versatility with only 2 burners, even if both of them are excellent.

Which Is Better Weber Or Ziegler

Blaze 25

The Weber is lighter, uses less fuel and has a slightly more useful cooking surface. The Ziggy has better control over its heat, is more versatile, is great value for money and it copes with the wind. Both retail for $349 but the Ziggy comes with more standard accessories than the Weber, so its better value for money.

Does Weber Make A Built

Weber produces two grills that are designed to be built in and these are the Summit S-460 and the Summit S-660. Both of these grills are available in natural gas and propane varieties. These grills have been specially designed and incorporate the necessary ventilation elements that are required of a built-in grill.

Attempting to build in a Weber grill that is not intended for this purpose may lead to issues with your warranty and it will likely become void. As such, if you encounter any issues from this point forward, your warranty will no longer cover them.

Is It True That Propane Burns Hotter Than Natural Gas

Yes, it is true. As we mentioned earlier, one cubic foot of propane produces 2,516 BTUs when burned, while natural gas produces just 1,030 BTUs when the same amount is consumed.

This discrepancy has led to some pitmasters claiming that natural gas grills just dont get hot enough to properly sear. While this might have been true for earlier models, modern natural gas grills have overcome this issue by increasing the amount of gas released by their burners, thereby increasing the temperature.

A lot of high-end models, and most of the grills weve reviewed here today, also include an infrared high-temperature searing station. These searing stations present a more convenient solution to getting the perfect reverse sear than heating your entire grill up to a high temperature.

Award:BEST FUEL EFFICIENCY

WHY WE LIKE IT: Modern design and features like infrared heating elements, high-test industrial steel construction, and double-lined lid for superior heat retention combined with propane ignition for excellent fuel efficiency.

The Bull BBQ Angus is a stainless steel 4 burner natural gas built-in grill w/rotisserie made of durable, heat-retaining 16 Gauge 304 stainless steel. More quality of life features include a large warming rack, interior twin lighting for nighttime cooking. Its power, performance, and list of features come at a higher price point than many in the class. However, for exceptional results for a wide variety of BBQ and grilling recipes with additional infrared cooking technology and one of the largest total cooking areas available for its type, its an excellent choice. Its one of the best propane grills on our list.

Propane Gas Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
Connecting your grill to the natural gas pipeline that supplies your house means a steady and reliable stream of fuel without the need to change out any tanks. Natural gas burns at about half the heat of propane, with some customers complaining that this means their grill doesnt get hot enough for a proper sear.
While not as clean-burning as propane, natural gas is still considered a green fuel. Natural gas grills are only portable if you have another natural gas hookup to attach them to at your destination.
Pound for pound, natural gas is cheaper than propane.

If You Really Want The Best Tasting Barbecue Then You Really Want A Grill With Searing Capability

Lynx Professional 36

Theres grilled, and then theres seared. You sear for color and flavor you grill to cook to the desired temperature.

You can get a grill grate hot enough to sear, but oh my, is the infrared sear burner the way to go. When you turn the knob controlling the sear burner, and the flames heat the ceramic plate, it rapidly creates a smooth heat barrier of extremely high temperatures.

The infrared radiation sears the meat so rapidly and gets the perfect color and crust across the entire surface. It completely takes the guesswork out of the process. Its why you need one for your rotisserie kit too.

At the very least, I recommend a grill that is capable of reaching temperatures of up to 500°F plus. It is better to have the ability to reach high temps, even if you hardly ever need them.
