Pizza Recipes: How To Make Homemade Pizza Dough

Chicken Or Beef? Which is Better? | Z Grills

Weve included two delicious bbq pizza recipes below, which you can use this homemade pizza dough recipe with, or simply cheat with a store-bought pizza base its completely up to you. Heres how to make homemade pizza dough:

YIELDS: 2 Pizza Crusts

  • 225ml Warm water
  • 1 sachet fast-action yeast
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 3.5 cups flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • Optional: 3 tbsp melted butter and 1tbsp olive oil

  • Add 3.5 cups of flour, salt, and melted butter, if desired. Set your mixer to a low speed, or combine with a wooden spoon or spatula until its combined.
  • Remove the dough from the bowl and sprinkle flour over a flat surface and knead by hand. If its still sticky after 5 minutes, sprinkle a little flour over the dough and knead. Repeat as necessary until the dough is springy, bouncing back when you poke it. If youre using a mixer, increase mixer speed to low-medium, and then knead the dough by hand until it is smooth and elastic, usually about 5-10 minutes.
  • Spray the inside of a large bowl with cooking oil and place your dough inside. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel. Leave it in a warm place until it has doubled in size. This usually takes 1-1.5 hours.
  • Remove the dough and cut it in two. For the best results, wrap the balls in plastic wrap and put them in the refrigerator overnight, or for a few days. You can use the dough immediately, however. You can also place the dough in the freezer for future use.
  • Comparing The Zgrills/grilla Grills Temperature Control Panels

The other main difference between the ZGrills and Grilla Grills pellet grills is the control panels they are using. There are two main types of control panels used on pellet grills today. I cover this in my post on how to pick the best pellet grill to meet your needs/budget. Essentially there are time/pause based control panels and PID control panels.

The dial control panel currently used on several ZGrill pellet grills: Image

In the simplest terms, a time-based controller will turn the pellet feed auger/fan on and off for set periods of time to achieve a set temperature. This results in a temperature accuracy of around 25 degrees from the set temperature. A PID control panel is constantly monitoring the actual temperature in the grill and the set temperature, constantly adjusting the pellet feed rate and fan speed. Therefore, a PID control panel can achieve a temperature accuracy within 5 degrees of the set temperature.

Grilla Grills with their Alpha control panel has created a hybrid of a time-based and PID pellet grill control panel: Video GrillaGrills.com

ZGrills still fit time-based controllers on their pellet grills, similar in design to the previous generation Traeger Pro Series control panels. Though, there are some Z Grills PID pellet grills now available. The Grilla Grilla Silverbac comes with the option of their Pro controller or their Alpha control panel. You may be wondering why would Grilla Grills still include a time-based mode in their latest control panel?

Creating The Molds Of Your Teeth

After the impressions are created, the next step is to pour dye stone to fill the impression and create the mold that the grill will be made from. The impression and tray are pressed against a vibrating machine while the dye stone is poured onto the mold. This makes sure there are no air bubbles on the mold and that the dye stone is distributed evenly into the impression.

    How Z Grills Work

The way Z Grills are designed and work is not much different than most other brands. This is basically how to use a z grill. It works by burning wood pellets and in that way creates heat and a wood smoke flavor to your meat.

These pellets are stored in a hopper and this is located at the side of the grill. There is a mechanical auger that feeds the pellets in the firebox where they are ignited by a rod.

The Pros of this are that you can fill the hopper, set your temperature, and go on with your day.

A picture might explain it better than I do probably.

The word pellet grill is in my opinion, not an accurate description. I look at them as a smoker. The reason is that they can maintain the temperature over a long period of time. However, most pellet grills are not good at getting hot enough to sear meat.

Overall Z Grills Vs Traeger Winner

Weve done a lot of comparison articles on Own The Grill, and Im not exaggerating when I say that this is one of the closest calls Ive ever seen when comparing two brands.

I think Traeger makes the higher quality and more feature laden pellet grill, but theres no denying Z Grills offer some of the best value on the market. The winner, and whats best for you largely comes down to your personal needs and preferences.

For example, if youre looking for a portable pellet grill well, Traeger is clearly your choice. If you have a little bit more cash to work with in your budget, a Traeger will get you more extra features and durability than Z Grills, and that might be worth it to you!

On the other hand, if youre looking for the absolute best value pellet grill, its hands down Z Grills. You simply wont find a better bang for your buck on the market. As long as youre ok without the extra bells and whistles Z Grills is a fantastic choice.

Traeger also generally holds more brand loyalty since theyre the original and have been around for so long, if you care about that sort of thing. Traeger also has a strong history of delivering quality products to their customers. Z Grills are for sure the new kids on the block, but they havent exploded in popularity for no reason.

Arent Traeger Grills Made In The Usa

Traeger, the longest and most established pellet grill brand were originally manufactured in Oregon and were produced in the USA up until 2006 when the Traeger family sold the company. In 2006 the patent that Traeger had on the design of pellet grills/smokers since 1986 ran out, then more makes/brands of pellet grills started to enter the market.

Traeger felt they had to move manufacturing abroad to expand the company to make it viable while still offering a product at a price their customers are happy to pay. Hence, today Traeger pellet grills are made in China.

A Quick Note On Pellet Grills

How To Grill Beef Wellington On The Grill (Ultimate Guide) | Z Grills

Just in case you arent familiar with the ins and outs of pellet grills, heres a quick run down before we get into our deep dive of Z Grills reviews:

Pellet grills are a type of grill that rely on a unique system to heat, flavor, and cook your food.

They dont use gas, propane, or even traditional charcoal as a fuel source they rely on burning wood pellets specifically designed for use in pellet grills. These pellets are essentially capsules of compressed sawdust, which burn hot and slow. The best part? They release smoke which in turn imparts delicious smokey flavors onto your food.

The system that makes the pellet run is very automated, so you really dont have to spend any time building or managing a fire to achieve that wood fired flavor. All you have to do is set your temperature on the control panel, and the grill does the rest of the work.

Wood pellets are automatically fed down from the hopper, through the auger, and into the firepot where theyre ignited. From there, a fan distributes the heat and smoke convection style throughout the chamber where your food cooks.

Z Grill Vs Traeger: Temperature Range

Wood-pellet grills are versatile, so they work great as smokers along with being excellent grills. A pellet grill must have a wide temperature range, as without this it will only be able to cook a limited number of things.

Most meats smoke between 200° and 250°F, and to sear something one would need a grill that reaches 400°F. Therefore, a pellet grill that has a range of 200° and 400°F is ideal.

Z Grills have a temperature range of 180 to 450°F, and this range is one of the best for grills on the market right now. The Traeger pellet grill has a temperature range of 180 to 400°F, so its range is inferior to that of the Z Grill.
