There are several variables when it comes to how long to grill porktenderloin such as the thickness of the pork tenderloin and the actualtemperature of your grill, but in general most pork tenderloins require 10-12minutes to cook.;
You will spend a total of six minutes searing the pork at 500 degreeson all 4 sides, and then finish cooking at 400 degrees for 1-3 minutes perside.; The pork cooks very quickly and cango from undercooked to overcooked in a flash, so make sure to monitor itclosely. ;
Grilled Pork Tenderloin should be removed from the grill when itreaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees F and allowed to rest for 5-10minutes. This means the grilled pork tenderloin will be slightly pink insidewhich is OKAY. ;
For years, the USDA stated pork should be cooked to an internal temperatureof 160 degrees F which means the pork would be white inside, but in 2011, the guidelineschanged to reflect research and stated pork is safe to consume at 145 degrees Fwith a three-minute rest time. ;;This meansyour pork will now be slightly pink, juicy, and buttery tender!

Since Im using a charcoal fired grill, I start by firing it up, because it can take up to an hour to get the coals nice and hot. While the grill is firing up, lets prepare our ingredients. Im cooking for 5 people today, so I picked up 2 nice pork tenderloins, about 500grams each.
There is always some silver skin left on the meat, so lets remove all of it. Once cleaned, cut the meat into 6 larger pieces, these should be of similar size so they all cook more or less at the same time.
The next step is to prepare the marinade. Start with olive oil, 4-5 tablespoons of extra virgin. Add 4-5 tablespoons of soy sauce. Now 3 teaspoons of garlic powder. 2 or 3 teaspoons of red paprika. And 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard. Do not forget a generous amount of salt and of course, black pepper goes in too.
Whisk everything properly, to make sure the salt dissolves and all the spices combine properly. Now tip your finger into the marinade and taste it. Some people dont do this but its the only way to tell if there is enough salt in your marinade. The marinade has to be a little bit over-salted since we are working with rather big chunks of meat. Keep in mind there is nothing raw or poisonous in the marinade, so dont be afraid of it
The grill is all fired up by now, so we can start with the potatoes. To save myself some time, I pre cooked roughly 1 kilo of potatoes in salted water for about 25 minutes. This way, they will be finished on the grill in a much shorter time.
Prepare The Pork Tenderloin
Start by trimming a 1-1/2lb pork tenderloin.Note: this is NOT the same thing as a pork LOIN, which is typically used as a roast.
Rub the tenderloin all over with;extra virgin olive oil then sprinkle;with your desired seasonings salt, pepper, garlic powder, a steak rub etc. really anything you like. I usually skip marinating pork tenderloin in anything containing sugars like honey, maple syrup or brown sugar, which easily burn during the searing process on the grill.

- I typically pull my pork tenderloin off of the heat once it reaches 135 degrees F. After 10 minutes of resting, it gives me perfect, juicy pork every time. Ive never had it come out underdone.
Tips For Grilled Pork Tenderloin
- Bring the pork to room temp: As with most meats, you want to bring it to room temperature for about 30 minutes before grilling. Otherwise, the outside may char before the insides can evenly cook.;
- Pre-season: Generously coat both sides of the pork loin with salt and black pepper, or other preferred seasonings. Or use pre-seasoned pork loin, which is recommended in the section below.
- Preheat the grill: Preheat the gas grill on medium. The grill should be hot before you add meats to prevent sticking and create nice sear marks.
- Grease the grill: Lightly grease with cooking or olive oil just before adding the meat to help prevent sticking.
- Close the lid when grilling: This builds up heat inside and evenly cooks the centers. The outside will still sear.

Ive found that, besides adding flavor to the pork, this also creates a subtly sweet surface that browns and caramelizes, resulting in an even more impressive crust. Ive used three different concentratesorange, apple, and pineapplein three different glazes to demonstrate their use, but you shouldnt feel locked into these recipes. Feel free to change and interchange fruit juices, spices, and herbs. For example, rosemary is equally good with orange or pineapple. Chili powder and cumin are great with orange juice. Try sage or herbes de Provence with any of the juices.
Optional Tips To Tweak This Recipe
- Some salad would definitely go really well with the steaks and potatoes. You can use my simple coleslaw, for example.
- Im using the same marinade for different cuts of meat, feel free to try some chicken or even aged beef.
- When cooking for kids, I usually do not add anything spicy, but you can definitely add some chili or sriracha sauce into the marinade.
- I pre-cooked the potatoes, but if you have really small ones, its not necessary. Just make sure you give them enough time to cook through properly.

Combine the four ingredients in your ziplock bag to make the grilled pork tenderloin marinade:
