Which Weber Genesis Grill Do I Have

Clark Hodgson Wyocena Wi

Which Weber should I buy?| Spirit vs Genesis II vs Summit gas grill

Date Code: B

I was driving past my neighbors place in Wyocena, WI on Memorial Day weekend 2006 while they were having a garage sale. I saw what I thought for sure was a WSM sitting in his driveway. It was a little rusty, the access door and legs anyway, but appeared to be in excellent condition otherwise.

My neighbor had a price tag on it of $20.00. He said, Dont buy that because then youll have to cook! I told him I used my Brinkmann to cook all the time. Since I am his neighbor, he said $10.00 would take it away. I couldnt pass up that deal.

So I came back with my truck, loaded it up, took it home and gave it a good cleaning. All of the porcelain was in really good shape. The grates were all rusty, but a wire brush took care of that. Since it did not have a thermometer, I searched the Web for retrofit ideas, which is how I happened on your site and learned about the date codes.

Clark cleaned up the old steel legs as best he could, but took a wire brush to the steel access door and sprayed it with black barbecue paint to make it look better.

Weber Genesis Ii Vs Charcoal Bbq Grills

Weber Charcoal BBQ Grill

Charcoal has the heat and adds texture that gas cannot.

Gas grills are more precise, consistent, and easy to clean than charcoal.

You also do not have to add charcoal every time using the grill.

Gas is the easiest and the most precise way to grill, while charcoal will give you better flavor with a bit more prep and clean up.

How To Season Your New Grates

The brand new grill is purchased, put together and it is time to get to grilling. A common question we receive from new grill owners or even repeat owners of new grills is, do I need to season my grates before grilling?

Our grates do not require any seasoning or re-seasoning prior to use. The grates have a porcelain enamel coating on them that takes away the need for seasoning. Before using grates for the first time, we just recommend preheating the grill and brushing the grates with a bristle brush and you are good to go.

      Happy grilling!

How To Interpret Weber Grill Codes

You shop online or in a store and see a row of similar Weber Genesis grills with different model numbers.

You almost need a Rosetta Stone or decoder ring to understand the Weber model numbers, so the following is an easy table to crack the code.

If a model begins with E – you have a porcelain enamel hood and stainless Flavorizer Bars.

If the model begins with an S, then the grill has a stainless body, Flavorizer Bars, and stainless grates instead of porcelain. Stainless wears better than porcelain.

The number, such as 3 or 4, indicates the burners on the grill. For Genesis II series grills, you can choose between 3 or 4 burners.

The exception to the ruling is the SE model. It is a special edition for specific dealers.

SE features stainless grates with colored hoods and a handle light and 9 MM grates as opposed to the 7 MM grates of the S models.

Thicker grates hold heat better and theoretically cook faster.

For 2021, the colors are Ocean Blue, Crimson, Copper, and Smoke.

Unlike last year, Genesis is the only Weber with color choices.

Spirit Vs Genesis Whats The Big Difference

Weber Genesis E310 Review and first few cooks.

The Spirit II and Genesis II are the two most popular gas grill lines that Weber sell.

The Spirit II line is designed for people who prioritize value for money over extra features.

While the Genesis II is made for the lifestyle griller who has cookouts often and is willing to pay more for higher quality and extra functionality.

The Geneis II lineup was re-released in 2019 with a number of improvements, while the newest Spirit II line came out in 2018.

You may also see some of the older Spirit and Genesis grills around . I would avoid these unless you get a really good deal as they are now out of date.

Key differences between Spirit and Genesis grills:

      • Spirit grills are simpler and are generally cheaper
      • Some models of Genesis II include a sear station and enclosed cart
      • Genesis range includes more burners, and higher BTU numbers

Despite these differences, both grills are made by Weber , so there are a few great features and upgrades that they share:

      Similarities between Spirit and Genesis:

      • Both are iGrill 3 compatible
      • Both have the new and improved GS4 grilling system
      • Both share the same warranty.

Both grills come with a 10-year 100% Weber guarantee. This guarantee covers all of the parts of whichever grill you end up going with if they suffer from irregular damage or malfunction.

Note that this does not cover normal wear and tear which might be obtained over a regular 10 years of use.

      iGrill compatible

iGrill is s own brand of Bluetooth meat thermometer.

      The Virtual Weber Gas Grill

Locating the model and serial number of your Weber gas grill can be tricky, especially on older grills that have been out in the weather for years. You may need your model and serial number when registering a gas grill with Weber Customer Service or when trying to order replacement parts from Weber.

On current and recent grills, the model and serial number are printed on a sticker inside the storage cabinet. Sometimes its horizontal, like in this Weber Summit S-670:

And the model and serial number are here:

Sometimes its vertical and part of a collection of stickers, like in this Weber Genesis S-310:

And the model and serial number are here:

On an old grill like the first generation Weber Genesis 2, the model and serial number are on a tiny sticker on the frame on the right side of the control panel:

L3 is the model number and the six digits are the serial number:

Unfortunately, on some models Weber places the model/serial number sticker on the exterior back panel or frame of the grill, where exposure to weather can cause it to fade or peel off. Most recently they did this on the 2017 Genesis II E-310:

And heres the model and serial number:

      Kevin Steers Cedarburg Wi

      Date Code: B

Kevin says, Days after an estate sale in my neighborhood in northern Wisconsin, this WSM was found in the bushes, where it had been abandoned. The new homeowner told me to take it, as he knew I was a barbecue guy. I will need to reverse a mod, as the original owner converted it to propane, I believe, as evidenced by the holes in the base.

In the first photo, you can see the propane valve attached to the front leg of the charcoal bowl. In the third photo looking inside the charcoal bowl, the rectangular hole is probably access for the propane burner the small hole in the bottom is probably a weep hole for water.

Should You Buy A Weber Spirit Genesis Ii Or Summit Grill

The Spirit has the smallest and the least expensive, starting at $379 for their Spirit II.

The Summit has the largest and most full-featured with six burners, rotisserie, smoker, side burners at $2,799.

Weber doesn’t have a perfect grill for everyone. That’s why there are so many options.

To determine the right Weber for you, you have to assess how you grill.

If it is a few items, the Spirit is a great grill. The better Spirits have decent features.

If you are a regular griller and like to infuse your food with flavor and use the rotisserie regularly, then a Summit is a good option.

That said, Genesis is their most popular grill for a good size with powerful burners at a reasonable price.

So, match whatever Weber grill suits your particular cooking style.

Grill Wont Maintain Stable Temps In Cold Weather

When the temperature outside dips below 50 degrees, the propane may be taking too long to transform into vapor. This can restrict the gas flow, which means that the grill wont be able to hold its heat long enough to cook your ingredients.

Check the outside of the LP tank. Is it coated in frost or ice? If so, it will need to be disconnected and replaced with a new one.

Should You Buy A Weber Genesis Ii Series Grill

      It depends.

You should also look at the Spirit grill. If you are grilling a couple of items, you still have decent features.

The Summit grill allows you to smoke your meat or roast it using its rotisserie.

For professionals or more seasoned chefs or grill aficionados, Lynx, DCS, and Hestan offer a much better grill with higher BTU, infrared sears, and overall better construction.

You will have to pay a lot more for those features, usually over $3799-10,000.

Genesis, however, is the most popular grill for a reason.

It is far more durable than a competitive brand.

You also have the right size, options, output, and features for the price.

The basic Genesis is not expensive at $749. You can also buy a large grill with good features for under $1,300.

It will light quickly, maintain temperature, and be easier to clean than the Spirit, Summit, and other competitive brands.

Weber also is built better than its competitors . It will last longer with better reliability.

If you are looking for a great, dependable larger-sized grill without the frills, Genesis should be considered.
