Family Is At The Soul Of What We Do & Represent
Bennie Smith’s inspiration to open a restaurant came from two sources. One was his desire to have a home for his already-established catering business and the other was to celebrate fatherhood.
In 2014, Smith along with his wife Angela, opened Daddy’s Soul Food & Grille.
When you come in Daddy’s you can immediately identify the feeling and images of family. “Without a father, the family is in chaos. We want to reiterate here what a father is all about. It’s about loving your child and your child loving you back. That is manhood.” says Smith.
There’s a large framed photo of Smith’s father, who was also a chef, in the restaurant. Smith grew up occasionally going to work with his dad at a country club in Zion, Ill. and was inspired by his commitment to quality and love for food.
All of the recipes on Daddy’s menu were created by Smith or his family members. The menu is divided into sections named after Smith’s six children.

New Daddy’s On Blue Mound Now Serving Breakfast With More To Come
There’s a new breakfast spot to enjoy on Bluemound here’s what you can expect.
Its been a big year for Daddys Soul Food & Grille, a near West Side restaurant which has been serving up a menu of comfort food staples since 2014.
This fall, owners Angela and Bennie Smith nearly doubled the footprint of their inaugural restaurant at 754 N. 27th St., adding kitchen enhancements, additional seating and additional space to accommodate more efficient ordering lines for their dedicated customer base.
And this week, the Smiths opened their second restaurant at 6108 W. Blue Mound Road in Wauwatosa.
Daddys on Blue Mound, which is located in a former George Webbs, will not only extend the reach of the popular soul food restaurant, but also bring breakfast back to a spot that was once a neighborhood staple.
In fact, breakfast is the name of the game during Daddys soft opening this week, which focuses on a pared-down breakfast menu featuring egg dishes, pancakes, waffles and build-your-own breakfast sandwiches.

Now: Surviving And Thriving: Daddys Soul Food & Grille Expands In Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE — We’ve done a lot of stories about events being canceled or businesses shutting down during the pandemic, but there’s one Milwaukee restaurant that’s clearly bucking that trend.
Not only is Daddy’s Soul Food & Grille still in operation, it’s expanding. Thursday, Oct. 1, they cut the ribbon for the expansion at 27th and Wells.
Bennie and Angela Smith opened the spot in 2014, and if you ask Bennie about why it’s been successful, he’ll tell you it’s the food, it’s the customer service and it’s the atmosphere.
“It’s a great meeting place. You come here and you hear live music and it brings back that old time memory of good feelings. And the place we’re in now is negativity and bad moves… We want to be uplifting,” Bennie Smith.
Daddy’s Soul Food & Grill is located in the SOHI building — 754 North 27th Street — which has just undergone renovation of its own.
