Weber was a business owned by the family of Stephen George Sr. This family business successfully ran its operations for decades until they sold their controlling stake. This had to be done because Weber Grills was losing some international market due to the rise in competition. They sold the controlling stake to BDT. The BDT owns some part of the company but the majority control still lies with the original owners.
The 2010 BDT acquisition did not include the restaurant operations. This is why even today the restaurants are owned by the family of Stephen Georgeâs family. Even though the brand name did not change, the two firms have drifted apart. The company owned by BDT manufactures and deals with outdoor grills while the other company focuses on restaurants and their operations.
The Downside To Outsourcing
While we understand the reasons for outsourcing, the practice has some issues that bear mentioning.
For one thing, the manufacturing standards are often lower due to poor quality control. That means that Webers products might suffer as a result. The company denies that this is a problem for them, particularly since the design process still takes place at corporate headquarters. Still, its an important point for buyers to keep in mind.
On the subject of low standards: We mentioned the fact that the labor laws in the global south are not as stringent as the ones in the US. As a result, the workers may be treated unfairly or even cruelly, depending on the circumstances. This is a human rights issue thats enough to turn many buyers off completely.
Finally, consider the environmental implications. When a company like Weber manufactures its products on foreign shores, it relies on freighters and other forms of mass transportation. This uses up a great deal of energy, which could be harmful to the planet.

All these are good sizes for the average back-yard griller, with the Americana brand being more versatile for taking on the road, like to the park or on a camping trip.
The Huntington doesn’t have great reviews, but it’s the the only inexpensive American made gas grill we could find.

Although it has some imperfectionsthe enamel on the bottom rim is not perfect, the bottom grill is missing, and its not perfectly round anymorethe rest it still looks great. The original booklet was present as well.
The owner told me that he had received this smoker from his sister in Scotland, but they never used it. As you can imagine, I am very pleased to own such an old, special WSM.
The Issue With The Outsourcing
Weber has chosen to outsource their goods for manufacturing purposes for some of these third-world countries due to taxation issues. Large conglomerates tend to pay lower taxes abroad other than in the USA. It lets companies like Weber pay lower taxes.
Outsourcing allows the acquisition of labor at minimum cost. With this, the manufacturing cost of this overseas country is somewhat low. With the relaxed costing and taxation system Weber can save a lot of money.
Apart from that, outsourcing allows the home-built company to focus on its goal. Weber has more straightforward goal developmental plans with this ideology as they dont have to look for any manufacturing issues. They can hire other outside companies to do the heavy lifting on behalf of them.
All these factors can come together and provide the company to build customer retainability with affordable products by increasing the sales and cost of the product enabling their higher profit margin.

Smokin Brothers Pellet Grills/smokers
Based in Southeast Missouri, Smokin Brothers was started in 2008 and is a family-owned business.
