Who Makes The Ducane Grill
People sometimes want to know, Does Ducane still make grills? The answer is, yes.
Ducane is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Weber, and so their products are effectively backed by the Weber name.
Like most manufacturing companies, Ducane has moved grill production to China, although design and quality control is still carried out in the USA. So, Ducane does still make grills.

Best Midrange Model: Char
Char-Broil’s three-burner stainless steel model comes in at less than half the price of the Weber model above. At $450, you’ll get a liquid propane and natural gas grill that can handle most cooking challenges with ease.
Char-Broil uses what it calls Tru-Infrared, a set of perforated emitter plates that separate food from flame to evenly distribute heat and reduce flare-ups. There were definitely fewer flare-ups compared with other models in our testing, but you won’t be able to see the flame when you’re lighting the grill or adjusting the temperature, so keep that in mind.
You’ll get less power than the Weber at 25,500 BTUs over 420 square inches of primary cooking area space, and there aren’t any smart grilling features for remote monitoring. This Char-Broil model does have a side burner as well as tank storage behind two cabinet doors. Like the Weber, it comes with a 10-year warranty.
Food cooked on our Char-Broil test unit was good, though slightly less crispy and seared than the Weber. If you’re looking to stay under $500, this outdoor grill with stainless steel burner offers the best balance of features and performance among the models we’ve tested.

When To Buy A Grill
Whether youre shopping for a charcoal, gas or electric grill, youll find better prices during certain seasons and holidays. So when is the best time to buy a grill?
There are many promotional markdowns and competition during early summer, but buying off-season is always the best time to save the most.
In recent years, weve actually seen the best deals on grills during early fall.
While there are tons of great deals available on grills right now, we expect to see the best prices in . Although the best sales may take place a little later in the year, the good news is youre not too late to snag a bargain on a new grill!
Labor Day weekend is a great time to shop for a new grill. Many retailers offer sales in honor of the holiday, and this will be a great time to find markdowns and rollbacks on popular grill brands.
Even after Labor Day, youll see prices on grills continue to fluctuate and drop as they become clearance products and retail stock clears out. When you see these deals, be sure to compare prices and grab them fast.

Natural Gas > Liquid Propane
There is nothing wrong with liquid propane gas grills, or the gas grills that run off refillable tanks most grillers are familiar with. But, if you have a natural gas line available, you should use it. And it’s why we say natural gas is better than propane.
“If you move into a new home with an outdoor natural gas line on the deck, the main reason not to use natural gas would be that you don’t have a natural gas grill,” Max Good, director of equipment reviews at AmazingRibs.com, says.
Why? Mostly the convenience of not needing to refill a propane tank and the cheapness of natural gas as a fuel. Natural gas versions of popular gas grills are marginally more expensive than propane-fueled counterparts, but not problematically so. There’s virtually no difference in cooking performance.

Best Budget Model: Char
No one ever said you have to spend hundreds to be happy with your BBQ grill. Char-Griller’s E3072 proves it. This model brings 40,800 BTU of power over a generous 438 square inches of cooking space, not counting a 12,000-BTU side burner.
What we noticed most in testing this grill is how quickly it got up to temperature compared with other models. It held that heat well, too. Unfortunately, that became a hindrance in our testing. Burgers and chickens were too charred on the outside, thanks to the hot cast-iron cooking grate. If you do purchase this model, keep that in mind and start out with less heat. Ribs were better, perhaps owing to the two smokestacks designed for even low and slow cooking.
There’s no storage cabinet on this model. The propane tank sits behind a decorative front panel. That’s an aesthetically pleasing compromise, but reaching through the side bars and around the panel to open and close the tank was frustratingly difficult. Despite those annoyances, this barbecue grill offers plenty of practicality and power for a very reasonable price.
Where To Buy A Grill
When it comes to shopping for a grill, one of your first questions may be, Where should I go?
If you prefer shopping at brick and mortar stores, youll find great deals at home improvement retailers like Ace Hardware, Home Depot and Lowes. Be sure to keep an eye out during seasonal sales for some of the best prices at these stores.
Walmart is another place to consider while shopping for a grill, as many of its products are listed online with free in-store pickup. You can typically get free shipping on orders over $35.
Amazon Prime members can usually get free shipping. But even if youre not a Prime member, you can often get free shipping if you spend $25 or more.
While shopping online its always important to compare prices, and tools like can help. Then, use CamelCamelCamel to see previous markdowns on the grill. Using these tools, its easy to determine if youre shopping at the best place and at the best time to buy a new grill.
Two more tips: Dont forget to read the sellers information on shipping, returns and warranties. And customer reviews can be very helpful when youre shopping online.

Btu Level / Heat Flux
BTU has long been the measurement of choice for grilling power. Specifically, 1 BTU is the amount of energy required to increase the temperature of a pound of water by 1 Fahrenheit at sea level.
In truth, its not really a measurement of heat generated. When you read the BTU specs for a grill, youre really learning how much gas a unit burns through at maximum output in an hour.
A more efficient grill will get more heat out of less gas than a less efficient one. So, while the less efficient model might have a big BTU number to grab your attention, that doesnt automatically mean its going to be hotter or cook better than a grill with lower BTUs.
How, then, can we know how hot the grill will get? By knowing its heat flux.
Simply put, heat flux is a measurement of the BTUs per square inch
This is a much better, though still not perfect, indication of how much heat a grill produces.
The average score of our 10 choices is about 85. If youre really into fast, high-heat cooking, look for heat flux around this level or higher. If you have a little more patience, a lower score is ok especially if theres a searing burner included.
Have You Considered
Grill Grates Lids And Other Materials
The two most common materials used for grates are stainless steel and cast iron. Although stainless steel is rust-resistant , they dont conduct heat as well as cast iron. You can sear steak better on a cast iron grate, but one caveat is that you have to spend more time caring for it or else it will rust, Phan said. If you cook a lot of steaks, go with cast iron, but if you cook a lot of burgers, brats and seafood, stainless steel is a better choice.
High-quality gas grills are made from durable stainless steel but not all stainless steel is created equal. Stainless steel is an alloy that comes in different numerical grades, depending on its composition, which impacts its overall strength, heat durability and rust resistance. Among the different grades, Phan said 304 and 430 stainless steel are most common. Grade 304 is much better than 430 and that comes with a higher price tag, he explained. That said, if you take care of your 430 grill, it will probably last a bit longer.
Not all gas grill models come with a lid. Phan emphasized its importance for backyard cooks, though. With a lid, you can turn your grill into an oven, meaning that you can cook food with convection heat, he says. It will cook your food more evenly than conduction and radiant heat.

Where To Buy Ducane Grills
If in doubt about where to buy anything at all, I tend to head over to Amazon. Ducane grills are no exception to this rule.
I like the reviews on Amazon, they are very helpful when you are trying to decide which model is for you.
However, youll find that Ducane Grills are branded as Weber grills on Amazon, and that is a bit confusing.
Ive found eBay to be another good source, and you might be lucky and pick up a second hand Ducane grill there.
The older Ducane barbecue grills were very robustly built, and if that grill has been well looked after a second-hand one could be a good buy.
However, you would have to get lucky and find a grill on eBay that is within driving distance, and most ordinary individuals are not going to want to pack up a large item grill and send it to you.
Homebase offer some exclusive Ducane models, as does Target and there also several specialized grill companies selling on-line.
You might have to look for Ducane/Weber or even Weber on its own, but its worth searching around if you want to get a real Ducane barbecue grill.
So many people have happy memories of their parents grilling on their Ducane barbecue grill its a brand name that just refuses to go away!,
