If you weren’t a fan of the massive grille on the new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD, well, perhaps a generous helping of chrome will change your mind? On Thursday, Chevrolet released photos of the Silverado HD’s top-end High Country trim level, which will be one of five different trims in which the heavy-duty truck will be offered.
Compared to the Z71-badged version we saw earlier this week, the High Country has a new grille treatment with horizontal chrome slats, as well as a Chevrolet bowtie logo across the center grille bar, rather than the block “Chevrolet” lettering of the Z71 truck. Also evident is the High Country’s body-colored lower bumper with a chrome insert, plus chrome trim for the mirrors, door handles and window surrounds. Running boards and larger polished-chrome wheels round out the differences.
Big “High Country” badge means no mistaking which of the five trim levels this is.

More subdued than the LT model we saw earlier
The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD debuted this week, and let’s just say not everyone is a big fan of how it looks. Now, General Motors is revealing the High Country model, which has a tamer grille than some other variants.
The High Country sits at the top of the Silverado HD lineup. Below it are four trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, LT, and LTZ. The different trims offer different design cues, so one truck could look quite different from the next.
The High Country’s grille consists of horizontal slats rather than the oval-shaped cutouts we saw on the LT model that debuted earlier this week. The High Country also features the classic bow tie instead of the stamped “Chevrolet” bar. Take a closer look at the grille, and you’ll notice the High Country’s exclusive two-tone metallic trim. GM is also using a mix of black, body color, and chrome trim to differentiate between the various models in the lineup.
Buyers have the choice of two powertrains. GM isn’t spilling the beans on the new direct-injected gasoline engine, but it’s rumored to be a Navistar-sourced 6.6-liter V-8 from MD Trucks. This engine will come paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The other option is a Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 that pairs to a 10-speed Allison automatic and delivers 910 lb-ft of torque.
The 2020 Silverado HD goes on sale in mid-2019.

Up In Your Grille: Chevrolet Shows Off 2020 Silverado Hd High Country
The High Countrys grille is different from the maw of the Z71, and thats a good thing.
Earlier this week we showed you what the new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD would look like. At that time we determined that it wasn’t the most attractive looking pickup truck on the planet. We also knew that there’d be different front end grille designs for the various trims of trucks, just like on the Silverado 1500. Today, Chevrolet is showing us a different one.
What you’re looking at here is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD High Country, and it has a bow tie on the front. The Chevy logo on the front feels more at home than the “CHEVROLET” imprinted on the front of the Z71, at least to our eyes, and the front end looks more coherent.

Like the Z71 version of the truck, the High Country trim doesn’t look like the High Country 1500 Silverado, and that’s by design. Chevy wants their HD trucks to be differentiated on the road compared to their half-ton counterparts.
Truck customers are very clear: They want the perfect truck for them and not a one size fits most truck compromised for the masses, said Mike Simcoe, vice president, Global Design, General Motors. That insight shaped our strategy for the next-generation Silverado franchise, providing customers more differentiation between the Silverado 1500 and the Silverado HD as well as more personalization and differentiation between individual trim levels.
