Charbroil Performance 2 Burner
The two-burner unit from Char Broil comes with an attractive design and an extremely affordable price, making this an integral choice for people who are just looking to enter the world of BBQ with a limited budget.
The Performance 2 Burner provides a total cooking area of 400 square inches with 300 square inches of primary cooking area and a warming rack that measures 100 square inches. Each burner puts out a maximum heat of 12,000 BTU for a combined total heat output of 24,000 BTU for the unit. With its smaller size, this lets you take advantage of excellent BTU per square inch value of 80 which can be significant if you want to cook your food fast and quickly develop those grill marks.
Char Broil gives customers the option to choose between an open cart design like the Weber and a closed cabinet design. If you like the accessibility of the open space in the cart, this can be an ideal choice. However, if you are looking for better organization and more secure storage, the closed cabinet style might be a better option.
The unit also has foldable shelves that can be used for prepping or holding food. A temperature gauge is mounted on the lid and four lockable casters that allow for a supreme range of motion. This Char Broil is also one of our favorite small gas grills that we reviewed.
What We Like
- Heats up fast and evenly
- Easy to assemble and clean
What Makes Us Angry
- Food tends to stick to grates
- Smaller cooking area than competing products
Very Poor Grill Temperature
Char Broil Performance series 2 burner bbqThe grill bar temperature has never been hot enough for effective searing. Nothing to do with gas pressure etc. The only way to get it hot enough is to keep the lid permanently shut while cooking giving everything a sooty grease finish. The IR emitter plates are easily clogged with food debris. The idea you can burn off food debris and turn to ash is a joke.Problem since new with different regulator fitted, all burners checked etc.Would never recommend this product

Why There Is Salt In Our Rub
When you make rubs at home we recommend you add salt first them the herbs and spices because salt penetrates deep and the other stuff remains on the surface. So thick cuts need more salt. We put salt in these bottled rubs because all commercial rubs have salt and consumers expect it. You can still use these as a dry brine, just sprinkle the rub on well in advance to give the salt time to penetrate. For very thick cuts of meat, we recommend adding a bit more salt. Salt appears first in the ingredients list because law says the order is by weight, not volume, and salt is a heavy rock.
Sprinkle on one tablespoon per pound of meat two hours or more before cooking if you can. Called dry brining, the salt gets wet, ionizes, becomes a brine, and slowly penetrates deep, enhancing flavor and juiciness while building a nice crusty bark on the surface. Sprinkle some on at the table too!
Are they hot? No! You can always add hot pepper flakes or Chipotle powder in advance or at the table. But we left them mild so you can serve them to kids and Aunt Matilda
Best Budget Model: Char
No one ever said you have to spend hundreds to be happy with your BBQ grill. Char-Griller’s E3072 proves it. This model brings 40,800 BTU of power over a generous 438 square inches of cooking space, not counting a 12,000-BTU side burner.
What we noticed most in testing this grill is how quickly it got up to temperature compared with other models. It held that heat well, too. Unfortunately, that became a hindrance in our testing. Burgers and chickens were too charred on the outside, thanks to the hot cast-iron cooking grate. If you do purchase this model, keep that in mind and start out with less heat. Ribs were better, perhaps owing to the two smokestacks designed for even low and slow cooking.
There’s no storage cabinet on this model. The propane tank sits behind a decorative front panel. That’s an aesthetically pleasing compromise, but reaching through the side bars and around the panel to open and close the tank was frustratingly difficult. Despite those annoyances, this barbecue grill offers plenty of practicality and power for a very reasonable price.

How We Selected Gas Grills To Test
Many manufacturers of gas grills frequently update or improve their models, so we looked for gas grills that would not likely be replaced in a couple of years. Although these upgrades are often minor, we focused on grills that manufacturers had released in 2018-2019.
If you have a couple thousand in expendable cash, you could plunk it down on a high-end Napoleon, which has years-long warranties. A Napoleon, however, may be out of the average consumers price range, so we instead we researched the moderately expensive Webers, one of the leaders in the industry.
Weber has several series of gas and charcoal grills each with a lofty name, like Summit, Genesis and Master-Touch and we chose to test the Spirit II, since its features are similar to less-expensive brands.
Our tester then personally checked out all of the grills sold at Home Depot and Lowes, and since we wanted an equitable test, we selected grills that we believed would be a fair match against the Weber.
To be comparable with the Weber, the grills needed to have at least three burners, two side shelves, approximately the same size cook space and at least 30,000 BTUs.
Stainless Steel Corrosion Marks
I purchased a Char Broil 4600s from Robert Dyas in Summer 2020. The unit was shipped to my holiday home. Unfortunately I was unable to visit due to Covid until Summer 2021. I discovered on unpacking the left hand stainless steel cooker hood has corrosion marks. I photographed the marks and sent to Char Broil customer service. Their response was to suggest removing the marks with baking powder. This has not worked. Their further response was state that there was nothing they could do as the unit was out of warranty. This BBQ cost me over £800 and is damaged before I have even used it. I contrast Char Broil’s response to that of their main competitor who offers a full 10 year warranty.I can not recommend this product.

After reviewed each brand models based on total burner, we can conclude that there is no big difference between Char Broil and Nexgrill grills, their 2 burners models are petite grillers. I ended up decent enough to grill the perfect burger and choose the best equipment after years of improvement. I create this website for outdoor cooking enthusiasts, who are fueled by interest but lacking in help, feel educated when they leave because I see my past clueless self in them.
Best Overall: Weber Genesis Ii E
This liquid propane gas grill is pricey. We won’t skip over that. However, if you’re serious about grilling and ready to make an investment in your outdoor kitchen, this Weber grill is absolutely a top choice with ample grilling area and cooking grid dimensions.
This Weber model comes with plenty of high-performance specs. With 513 square inches of primary cooking space powered by 39,000 BTUs, plus a fold-down warming rack, a 12,000-BTU side burner and stainless steel rod cooking grates for heat retention, you’ll never want for cooking area space. Two cabinet doors hide a two-shelf storage area below the grill for utensils and supplies. That does mean the propane tank is stored outside the grill, but the provided hanging fuel gauge and easy access felt like a bonus more than an eyesore.
The Genesis II E-335 is also one of Weber’s iGrill 3 compatible models, along with other Genesis II models and the Spirit II line. This $100 accessory plugs into the front of the grill and houses up to four Bluetooth temperature probes. You can monitor the temperature probes via a companion app for iOS and Android, so you keep an eye on what’s happening in your cooking area from a distance.

Can You Slow Cook On An Infrared Grill
Infrared grills are famous for their heating technology. They can cook food at extremely high temperatures. Thats why most people think theyre not suitable for slow cooking.
But this isnt true. You can see above in our article that most of the grills feature burners that are integrated with knobs. So you can easily control the temperature according to the food requirement by using the knob.
Things To Consider Before Buying A Gas Grill
Before you get down to the nitty-gritty details about which company makes a superior grill, you should think about whether either one of these products is likely to suit your cooking needs.
Gas grills can make an excellent addition to a household, especially if you have a busy lifestyle or prefer to make dinner decisions on the fly. With a gas grill, theres no need to plan ahead . You can fire up the grill at the touch of a button, and toss on your menu items just minutes later. The waiting game thats part and parcel when cooking with a charcoal grill is completely eliminated.
That said, we know there are people who just cant live without the smoky, char-grilled flavor that charcoal provides. I hear youthat taste sensation is one of the main reasons I became obsessed with grilling to begin with. Though some experts claim that theres actually very little difference, Im not 100 percent convinced. Fortunately, some of the models listed here come equipped with Flavorizer Bars to help imbue your ingredients with that flame-broiled quality. This might not be enough to sway die-hard charcoal lovers, but those shoppers are probably better off looking elsewhere anyway.
Heres a list of some of the basic considerations you should keep in mind as you begin your search for a gas grill:
