So now that we have it out, you know were just going to go ahead.
I can get a little bit more leverage and pressure this way and I like to do just a really thorough job end to end. Just start at one side like this just works my way all the way down, trying to get in those little nooks and crannies. In this case, this folds up right here. This is an aftermarket grill grate. Heat Your Grill Before Every Use
Allowing the grill to heat up before you cook should be the first step every time you use the unit. Start the grill and let it heat up the grates for about 10-15 minutes before you put the food on. This will help to burn away any of the residual food and grease that may have been left behind when you cleaned it at the end of your last cooking session. Not only that, but a grill is an outdoor item and a little bit of heat will help to kill any germs or bacteria on the cooking surface.
When you look at these steps, it takes no major investment of time and effort to keep your grill clean and in good working order. Taking this little bit of time will help to maintain the unit and it will make the cooking process safer and easier. Along with performing these quick cleaning and maintenance steps throughout its use, you should also perform an annual overhaul cleaning of the entire unit.

Remove Rust And Stains From Your Chrome Faucet And Other Chrome Appliances
Thanks to a cool chemical reaction between aluminum foil, water, and chrome, you can use a strip of foil to keep your chrome kitchen sink faucet as shiny as new. First, clean the rusted area with soap and water. Then, fold a piece of foil into a small square with about 3 to 4 layers to prevent rips.
Next, dip your foil square in plain water and scrub the area gently to avoid potentially scratching the finish. You’ll see little bits of rust start to flake off with just minimal amounts of elbow grease. Re-dip your foil in water and repeat until your chrome faucet or other chrome kitchen appliance is sparkling!

How Long To Grill Salmon In Foil:
Salmon is considered fully cooked by the FDA when it reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Generally, salmon on the grill in foil takes about 10 to 15 minutes to cook. The best way of ensuring your salmon is fully cooked is using a meat thermometer. Insert the thermometer in the center of the thickest part of the salmon to get an accurate read.
Do note that the salmon will continue cooking after it is removed from the grill. Allow it to rest for 10 minutes before serving for best results!

Using A Wooden Scraper
Using a wooden scraper is something that can work pretty well, too. Many people use wooden scrapers to clean their grill grates because they can dislodge things that get stuck to the grill.
Just scrape up and down the grill grates to try to get rid of any debris that is present. It should do a good job of getting the stuff that is stuck to your grill off.
You wont be cleaning up the grease that is present when youre using this method, though. You could use this idea in conjunction with other cleaning methods to get good results.
If you have a wooden scraper that you can use, then it definitely makes sense to use it. Itll come in handy and should work a lot like a grill brush does.

Before You Start Cleaning Grill Grates
Determine whether your grill grates are made of porcelain, cast iron or stainless steel. How you clean your grill grates and what products you use depends on what material the grates are made of. Keep these tips in mind before you start scrubbing.
-
Porcelain grates: Porcelain grates are rust-resistant as long as the finish is intact. To clean, use a soft-bristled or nylon brush in lieu of rougher metal or wire brushes.
-
Cast-iron grates: Cast-iron is tough so they can handle those stiff, wire brushes. However, they do rust easily, so we recommend rubbing the grates down with either vegetable or canola oil after cleaning.
-
Stainless Steel grates: These grates are durable and dont require as much special care as porcelain or cast-iron grates. But, that doesnt mean they arent subject to rusting. To prevent rust, be sure to dry the grates completely before cleaning.

‘Tis the season for seasoning the meats, marinating the veggies, and prepping the grill for a summer of good eats. But what must you remember before you toss those burgers on the BBQ? Check the grill grate to make sure it’s clean. Despite what you’ve been told, a dirty grate is not great at all. It will set you back for a few reasons:
- The grime left from previous grilling sessions will impart an odd or “off” flavor to the food you’re cooking.
- Crusty bits left on the grill can cause your food to stick to the grates – especially delicate foods such as fish or vegetables.
- A grate with build-up of fat or grease can harbor harmful bacteria and also cause dangerous flare-ups when things get hot.
- A dirty grill will not give your meat a clean sear.
As you can see, it’s all fun and grills until you open the lid and see the crusty-dark remnants of last week’s ribs on the grates, then realize your grill brush is missing in action or in poor working order. What’s an aspiring grill master to do? Break out a roll of aluminum foil. Deep Cleaning And Maintenance
After youve cooked the last burger of the season, thoroughly clean your grill before storing it for the winter. Remove the grates, burner hoods, and grease pan, and scrub them with hot, soapy water and a plastic scour pad. Do the same inside the firebox and lid. Thoroughly rinse and dry all parts before reassembling. Also, remove the battery from the igniter before storing your grill long-term so it doesnt corrode.
Even if you follow the strictest cleaning and maintenance schedule, you will have to replace some parts on your grill as it ages. The burner hoods and cooking grates in particular take a lot of abuse and arent meant to last forever. My dad replaced these parts on his 17-year-old Weber Genesis four to five times over the years.
