Relaxing Outdoor Cookingâ¦Grilled Fish Fillets & Shrimp with Spicy Dipping Sauce

You only need 8 ingredients to make this recipe, plus salt and pepper. I just love recipes with short, simple ingredients lists! They make my grocery shopping and cooking so much less stressful.

Ingredients for the grilled shrimp:

  • 1.5 lb shrimp, peeled I leave the tail on for presentation and for dipping, but you can remove it if you want!
  • 1/4 cup avocado oil
  • Fine sea salt
  • Black pepper, freshly ground I almost always use freshly ground black pepper. The flavor is much stronger when its just been ground.
  • 1/2 lemon

Ingredients for the creamy herb dip:

  • 1/2 cup raw whole cashews No need to soak them before making the dip. Youll pour boiling water over the top of them and that will soften them enough before blitzing up in the high-powered blender.
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 cup boiling hot water
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice I always recommend fresh! Never bottled. The simple sauce depends on the taste of fresh lemon juice.
  • 3/4 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/4 cup loosely packed parsley leaves I use flat-leaf parsley, but curly parsley will also work in a pinch!
  • 2 Tbsp chopped chives

What Dip Goes Well With Shrimp

There are so many possibilities for dips that pair well with shrimp, it really comes down to a matter of personal taste. Likewise, the different types and methods of shrimp are hugely varied. Not to go all Forest Gump here , there’s roasted shrimp, coconut shrimp, bacon-wrapped shrimp, shrimp rings, grilled shrimp, popcorn shrimp, and grilled shrimp, just to name a few. The dips and sauces we’ll go over today will cover a wide gamut of these , but we’ll talk about what’s best paired with what, and also provide you with some killer recipes.

I personally love serving shrimp as an appetizer, and then making three or four dipping sauces that people can try and enjoy. I love having variety when I entertain, so opting for smaller portions of lots of different types of appetizers, dips and sauces is my favourite.

Creole Butter Boasts Versatility

The Creole Butter recipe we use for these grilled shrimp skewers is the same one we use as a topping for steaks.

Its made very simply with a few spices and some Creole seasoning. Our favorite is Tony Chacheres Original Creole Seasoning and we use it all the time, like in our Seafood Gumbo and our Fried Green Tomatoes. If you dont have a favorite of your own, be sure to give it a try.

For more information on southern flavors like Creole and the regions they come from youll want to read Southern Food Then and Now.

For the steak, we blend the butter and make little scoops to put on the hot steaks right as they come off the grill. For the shrimp skewers we melt it and brush the shrimp while theyre cooking. Set some aside and keep it hot to use for dipping.

Lime Grilled Shrimp with Creamy Dipping Sauce

Heres a quick step by step but there is a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post as well. Keep it on hand or come back, we love seeing you.

It literally takes just 5 minutes to make and I would suggest making a larger batch so you can keep some for later. My kids love it on chicken nuggets too so we go thru a decent amount on a weekly basis ourselves.

Time needed: 5 minutes.

Bang Bang Shrimp Sauce

Mix your mayonnaise and sweet chili sauce together in a bowl. If you want it very mild then just use this and enjoy.

  • Add heat

For heat add 1 teaspoon of Sriracha or liquid hot sauce of choice into your sauce. You could add 1/2 tsp. of powdered hot seasoning blends too. Mix and then taste. If you want more heat add another tsp until it is the right spiciness for you. Dip shrimp or anything else in it and enjoy.

Avocado Lime Sauce For Grilled Shrimp

If you know me or know my recipes, you know I love a good sauce. So I figured this lets make a delicious dipping sauce for grilled shrimp. Its creamy, bold and fresh, and only 3 ingredients. Youll want to put it on more than just this cilantro lime shrimp too.

    Here is what you need:

    • avocado
    • cilantro
    • salt and pepper

To make avocado dip for shrimp, simply add all your ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth and creamy, about 30 seconds to one minute. It takes a total of 2 minutes to make and we usually have leftovers for the week to use on other things on grilled meats, in sandwiches, with breakfast, and just with chips.

To store avocado lime sauce, place in a small glass jar and store in the fridge. It should last up to 5 days. The top might get a little brown after a few days but still tastes the same .

    Dip For Roasted Shrimp

Now that our shrimp is done, let’s get into the dipping sauce. For roasted shrimp with bright, citrus flavors, I absolutely love a savory aioli with herbs to freshen it up. Luckily, this is super easy to make.

For this dip, we’ll need an immersion blender. It’s so easy, and comes together in less than five minutes. It’s also great with chicken, fish or burgers, so keep any leftovers you have in the fridge!

    Ingredients

    • 1 room temperature egg yolk & 1 room temperature egg
    • Lemon juice
    • 1 clove of garlic, diced
    • Salt and pepper

I’ve made this aioli countless times, and this method is FOOLPROOF . But basically, you combine all the ingredients, immersion blend for 10 seconds and your done.

Tips And Tricks For Making Grilled Shrimp Skewers

    • Use large to extra large, or even jumbo shrimp
    • Your shrimp should be shelled and deveined, but with the tails still on
    • Use wooden skewers. We find shrimp a bit delicate to skewer on metal ones.
    • Soak your wooden skewers in water for at least an hour so they dont burn up.
    • Divide the melted creole butter and leave plenty for dipping sauce on a warm burner while the shrimp are grilled and basted with the rest.
    • If you have time to make the Creole Butter the day before its even better. Its still plenty delish if you dont have time for that.

Quick Grilled Shrimp With Sriracha Dipping Sauce

    Grilled Shrimp with Spicy

November 1, 2019 by Chef Lisa

In the time it takes to preheat your grill, you can prep and marinate shrimp and prepare the dipping sauce. Then after a few minutes on the barbecue, this quickly grilled shrimp with sriracha dipping sauce is done and ready to be served as an appetizer or as the main dish.

The texture of shrimp can go from luscious to rubbery if overcooked, but that is such an easy thing to fix. When sautéing or grilling, dont cook shrimp according to the timer, but by what it looks like. Raw shrimp is grey and pearly while cooked shrimp is pink and the color turns opaque. Since it cooks so quickly, stand over the heat and watch. As soon as the color starts to change, get the tongs ready and remove the shrimp, not only from the heat source but out of the hot pan.

Not only can the texture be ruined by overcooking, but the delicate flesh can start to cook when immersed in an acidic substance like a marinade. This recipe contains lemon juice so the shrimp shouldnt spend very long in the sauce. Marinating for only 15 minutes will not start the cooking process but will provide a flavor boost to the shrimp.

Two New Twists On A Classic

In tune with our ever-developing palates and global food trends, Frenchs recently put two new flavors on grocery store shelves, one thats sweet and one thats spicy. Of course I could use the classic yellow mustard in these dips, but using the flavored varieties just saved me a few steps.

First off we have the Sweet Yellow Mustard Dip with 5 Spice and Hoisin.

Naturally spicy as all mustards are, Frenchs Sweet Yellow Mustard with brown wugar adds a sweetness that makes this Asian-inspired dip well balanced and totally complimentary to the grilled shrimp. I added Chinese 5 spice and kosher salt to enliven the flavors and tang.

Next up is the Spicy Yellow Mustard Dip with Tarragon. Building up the spicy flavor of mustard to even greater heights, Frenchs Spicy Yellow Mustard with cayenne pepper gives a zing to each lick of dip. The tarragon adds a licorice undertone that mellows the spice just right.

Ah, college football is almost back, and I couldnt be more excited! I find pro baseball to be rather slow, so the summer is usually pretty boring in terms of sports. Thats probably a good thing, though, since theres plenty of yardwork to keep me busy, and were always looking for extra time to go for a bike ride. Truthfully, this summer has been pretty good for sports. The World Cup and the Tour de France both provided plenty of mid-summer excitementbut Im still ready for my college football!

The long Labor Day weekend is one of my favorite times of the year! It signals the beginning of college football, but its also a celebration of the end of the summer. Around the Spiced house, that means Labor Day weekend is a huge grilling bonanza!

Earlier this summer, I partnered with Wilton Armetale to showcase their line of awesome grillware. Since then, Ive been using several other pieces from Wilton Armetales Gourmet Grillware, and I can honestly say that its super awesome! Not only does it make grilling a cinch, but you can grill and serve in the same piece. Take this Football Griller, for instance. Could this be any more perfect for tailgating??
