The Happy Grilled Cheese intends to open a second storefront.

Beginning as a food truck and opening its first brick-and-mortar restaurant Downtown, The Happy Grilled Cheese intends to lease in Mandarin at 9965 San Jose Blvd. in the Merchants Walk shopping center.

Director of Operations Brittny Lowrey said there is no specific opening date.

The food truck concept launched by owner Anthony Hashem is open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday Downtown at 219 N. Hogan St.

The food truck continues to operate and its schedule is on its Facebook page.

Merchants Walk landlord Hakimian Holdings said The Happy Grilled Cheese will take the 1,200-square-foot space formerly occupied by Blue Pacific Tacos.

Hashem registered The Happy Grilled Cheese LLC with the state in 2012. Lowrey said there have been requests for the restaurant to open in a residential area. It was a natural next progression, she said.

The Happy Grilled Cheese Is Creating An Empire

The next time someone remarks at the times we live in, kindly inform them that all is not lost. The Cheese empire is transpiring before our very eyes. Yes, THE Happy Grilled Cheese is opening a second restaurant location, this time in Mandarin.

The Happy Grilled Cheese is the brainchild of Jacksonville native and owner/operator Anthony Hashem. It began with a dream of cheese pulls and gourmet ingredients stuffed between two slices of bread, toasted in butter on an open skillet. HGC was then born as a food truck, and developed quite a following. In 2017, HGC opened their first brick and mortar restaurant, serving the downtown community hot cheeses five days a week. Which brings us to the present: The Happy Grilled Cheese is once again expanding! They will be opening a second restaurant location in Mandarin in the coming months. The new Happy Grilled Cheese will be at 9965 San Jose Blvd in the former Blue Pacific Tacos space. Local Mandarinites will know the area well. The shopping center boasts other foodie destinations such as Kazu Sushi, Carrabbas, and The Loop.

Blue Pacific Tacos has decided to move on to newer pastures with their food truck. They will be traveling with their truck.

The food was great, there were a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches for reasonable prices. Both inside and outside seating available.

This truck has gone downhill! I’ve scheduled this truck several times for clients. First time they didn’t bring Fries? What? Second time they didn’t bring enough food and now they show up in my neighborhood and refused to serve me at 453PM and I had…to wait til 5PM and then they insisted I could not order STANDING OUTSIDE without a mask on! I explained to them that I was asthmatic and in this heat could not wear a mask! Which is against ADA compliance rules! They refused to serve me! Should be glad their Truck was FILTHY and I will NEVER EAT, SCHEDULE or SUGGEST THIS TRUCK EVER AGAIN! And i was the only one around! NEWS FLASH – HEALTH PEOPLE CAN NOT MAKE YOU SICK!More

I went to the Happy grilled cheese on San Jose Blvd, Mandarin, this is not your average grilled cheese sandwich lets start there. Both my friend and I had the buffalo chicken melt, delicious not to spicy but a lot of flavor. Our sides were…seasoned fries and she chose the garlic fries. The season fries were good but the garlic fries were everything. The sweet tea was good and the Manager was nice enough to give me some garlic fries after she saw that I liked my friend fries a lil more than my own. Nice clean atmosphere, great employees, fast service.More
