Local Favorite Twisted Grilled Cheese Proves How Great Inclusion Can Be
The same as everywhere else, most great things in Houston start out as nothing more than a dream. Years of hard work then make that vision come to fruition, as was the case with Twisted Grilled Cheese, one of the hottest and fastest-growing restaurant concepts in all of H-Town. As part of a series from Coors Light, which aims to bring Houstons most inspirational black-owned businesses to the limelight, we take a look at how Twisted Grilled Cheese proves how great inclusion can be.
For one of the founding partners Erinne Willrich, a native Houstonian, the original goal was to create something long-lasting for her family. She quickly settled on a food truck with the ideal situation being that the truck simply paid for itself.
Weve always had an interest in food, Erinne says. Our background isnt culinary per se, but we definitely have palates where we know whats good and not good.
In fact, Willrich graduated from Texas Southern University with a law degree and is still a practicing attorney on the side. The accompanying skillsets turned out to help her quite a bit in daily operations within the food industry and still do to this day.
After first parking the wheels of her rolling kitchen at the Galleria Food Truck Park, she continued doing research on what was scalable, feeling she was onto something really good.

Looking for a new food truck to check out? Look no further than this new arrival. The new arrival to Greater Uptown, called Twisted Grilled Cheese, is located at 2829 Chimney Rock Road.
According to the business’s , “TGC is a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich food truck dedicated to serving high-quality specialty grilled cheese sandwiches with a Southern twist.”
On the menu, look for the Smokehouse Brisket with smoked beef brisket, pickled jalapeños, onion rings, Vermont white cheddar and aioli the Halal Philly Grilled Cheesesteak with marinated ribeye, caramelized peppers and onions, mushrooms and provolone or the Buffalo Chicken with chicken breast, TGC slaw, blue cheese and cheddar. Side options include soup, onion rings and waffle fries.
The new food truck has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 11 reviews on Yelp.
AB D., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Jan. 2, wrote, “This is truly the best grilled cheese, and with a twist, that I have ever eaten. The first one was a surprise treat to my taste buds. I have just about tried them all and loved every bite!”

We really wanted grilled cheese but didnt want basic grilled cheese, said General Manager Erinne Willrich. Our goal is to provide a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches and not just your typical ones.

Twisted Grilled Cheese, a popular Houston food truck devoted to the gooey grilled sandwich, recently opened its first brick-and-mortar location on Washington Avenue.
Twisted Grilled Cheese at 5555 Washington Avenue operates Sunday through Thursday, 11a.m.-9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
The brick-and-mortar location features an expanded menu and a full bar offering craft cocktails, according to a release. 13 gourmet sandwiches anchor the offerings: Signature sandwiches include The 5 Cheese Pepperoni, The Smokehouse Brisket, The Buffalo Chicken, The Halal Philly Grilled Cheesesteak, The Halal Philly Grilled Chicken, and The Twisted Burger. These crowd favorites are joined by three newcomersThe Avocado BLT+E, The Tarragon Lobster, and The Smoked Salmon. Three new vegetarian sandwiches also debuted at the new location: The Truffle Mushroom, The Spinach & Artichoke, and The Eggplant Parmesan.
New desserts joining the menu include Cheesecake Donut Holes, Double Chocolate Chip Cookie, The Nutella Dessert Sandwich, and The Lemon-Berry Dessert Sandwich. The Banana Split and The Chocolate Chip Shakes.

Although it only opened in 2019, Twisted has developed a devoted following that includes a whopping 60,000-plus followers on Instagram. The new restaurant joins two trucks, one that can be found at the Galleria Food Truck Park and another in Katy.
Since its so easy to make a good grilled cheese sandwich at home, serving one to paying customers can be tricky for restaurants. Twisted ups the games with multiple cheese blends and fillings that include Philly cheesesteak, smoked beef brisket, and Buffalo chicken. The brick and mortar restaurant raises the game even higher with three new additions Avocado BLT+E, taragon lobster, and smoked salmon as well as gluten-free bread.
