How Hot Do Traeger Grills Get

How To Get More Smoke From My Traeger

How to Replace Traeger Hot Rod | Traeger Grills

Another way to smoke food on a Traeger is to create more smoke. See this article for 5 tips on how to create more smoke on a pellet grill.

Traeger pellet grills can only produce a certain amount of smoke without needing some additional help.

The best way to create more smoke on a traeger is to use a pellet smoker tube. A smoker tube is a metal tube that is filled with wood pellets and ignited in order to create more smoke.

These smoker tubes can be filled with the same wood pellets used in the traeger and are simply ignited using a lighter or torch. After it starts smoking, the smoker tube is just placed inside the grill to produce extra smoke.

If one smoker tube and the traeger are still not producing enough smoke then use two smoker tubes. Placing them on both side of the smoker should provide complete smoke coverage and the food should develop delicious smoke rings.

Want More Heat Consider Charcoal Pellets

The condition of your pellets, and whether they have absorbed any moisture can impact their heat output. There are also small differences in heat output between Oak, Alder, Apple and other wood species. However, if you want the highest heat possible for grilling on a pellet grill there are now 100% charcoal pellets. When using 100% charcoal pellets the grate surface temperature of any pellet grill may get above 100 degrees more than with standard BBQ pellets.

Is It Possible To Grill In Traeger With Its Lid Open

While it is technically possible to grill in a Traeger with its lid open, its not recommended.

When the grills lid is open, heat and smoke escape, which can cause the temperature inside the grill to drop dramatically. This temperature shift makes it more challenging to achieve consistent grilling results and could affect the taste or texture of your food.

To get the best results when grilling in a Traeger, you should keep the lid closed as much as possible. If you need to open it, make sure you are quick about it and keep the temperature in mind. Adjust the temperature based on your foods cooking time.

Additionally, some users may find that using a grill cover can help prevent heat and smoke from escaping when the lid is open.

What Happens On The Smoke Setting Of Traegers

The Traeger will start an ignition cycle that feeds in pellets for 15 seconds and waits 65 seconds before repeating the cycle. This allows the heating rod to ignite the pellets to start a fire before more pellets get fed in.

If the p-setting has been adjusted on the Traeger then the pellet grill may pause anywhere from 45 seconds to 95 seconds before turning the auger back on. Well cover how to adjust the p-setting later in this article.

The smoke setting feeds pellets into the firepot the slowest which allows the wood pellets to burn and smolder. So the smoke setting will create the lowest amount of heat and usually the most amount of smoke.

Below is a photo of my Traeger when I just fired it up after cleaning out the firepot.

There is an important thing to keep in mind when using the smoke setting.

The temperature of the smoke setting can be anywhere from 150°F to 180°F, but it might be less if the air temperature is cold and the Traeger is not insulated.

The smoke setting is just feeding in pellets for 15 seconds and waiting 65 seconds regardless of how hot or cold the Traeger is so you might end up with different results if you cook the exact same thing on a cold versus a hot day.

Troubleshooting Problem #: Why Isn’t The Fan Working

It

With Traeger troubleshooting, the fan not working can be for a number of different reasons. First, it could be that you don’t have any power running to the orange wires from the controller.

Second, the problem could stem from grease on the shaft of the fan, which stops it from running due to disuse. To combat this problem, you might spin the fan a couple of times to loosen it and get it working.

Are Pellet Grills Worth It

Pellet grills are a great way to cook delicious food. They are known for their consistent temperature, which makes it easy to cook your food to perfection. Pellet grills are also versatile, and can be used for a variety of different foods. If youre looking for a grill that will help you create delicious meals, a pellet grill is a great option.

Wifire Or Traditional Grill The Processes Differ

Traeger produces two lines of its wood pellet grills. The first grill line, the traditional, functions manually. The second line Traeger developed recently, and it uses WiFi to connect the grill to your mobile device.

This WiFIRE technology, as the grill maker refers to it, lets you control the grill from inside your home via an app on your smartphone. This means you can adjust the temperature from indoors and not miss a moment of football game.

Youll need to know whether you own a WiFi-capable or traditional grill because your seasoning process differs.

Each takes a different amount of time and uses a slightly different process. A traditional grill takes about one hour to season, while a WiFIRE grill requires one and a half hours to season.

How To Season Your Traeger Wifire Grill

Unless youve had your Traeger grill sitting, unopened in a box in your garage or attic, for a few years, you probably own a WiFIRE grill.

Thats been the companys main product for the last few years. Although you own a Wi-Fi-enabled grill, you can only use the app for a few of the steps in the process.

The one thing that remains the same about these two processes is that you need to place a bucket or drip tray underneath the grill before you begin.

This catches the liquids and oils that may burn off during this process and protects the patio or porch surface on which youve placed your grill. Follow these steps, in order, to season your grill.

Step 1: Prime the grills auger tube with fresh, new pellets.

Step 2: Plug in the grill.

Step 3: Flip the power switch to on. Typically, Traeger places this switch on the rear of the unit.

Step 4: Fill the hopper with new, fresh hardwood pellets.

Step 5: Press the power button on the grills controller to turn on its screen.

Step 6: Using the grills dial, turn the selector to Select Auger > Prime Auger and press the controller knob to set it.

Step 7: Watch for pellets falling into the firepot. When this occurs select Done.

Step 8: Using the grills dial, turn the selector clockwise to 350°F . Press the dial. This displays the temperature confirmation on the controller screen.

Step 10: Adjust the temperature to 450°F . Press the dial to confirm the temperature as you did in Step 8.

All-natural wood pellets are moved from the hopper to the fire pot by an auger, where theyre ignited to feed the flames and add wood-fired flavor to your food. A fan circulates heat and smoke for even, consistent cooking, and a drip tray keeps flames off your food and prevents flare-ups. Its all operated by a controller that maintains a precise temperature that you can set either on the grill or via our WiFire app.

The new variable-speed fan delivers more oxygen to the fire, fanning the flame to help the grill bump up its BTUs. It also gives the user predictable, precise cooking temperature control in five-degree increments and more blue smoke across a wider temperature range for more flavorful food.

For A Hot Grill Keep Your Pellets Dry

Dampness in your wood pellets can severely affect the grill temperature. Its like burning wet wood in a campfire. The fire decreases in size and heat output. This is not really a pellet quality problem because it can happen to even high quality pellets. Its a matter of proper storage.

I always store my pellets inside, and sealed. Keeping them out of the rain is obvious. But also large swings in temperature from mid-day to early morning can cause humidity in the air to condense out and be absorbed into your pellets. If your extra pellets are sitting around for awhile, and your summers a humid like they are in the US Great Lakes region, with varying temperatures from day to night, consider investing in a pellet storage container.

How A Pellet Grill Maintains Temperature

    Traeger Junior Pellet Grill

Wood pellet grills all have a hopper for wood pellets. At the bottom of the hopper, the pellets drop into a motor-driven auger that precisely feeds the pellets into the fire pot for burning. The amount of pellets consumed by the fire and amount of air flow determines the grilling temperature. Air flow and the auger activation are both precisely manipulated by the grill controller.

With feedback from a temperature probe inside the grill, the controller turns the auger on for a bit of time, and turns it off for a period of time. This is called the duty cycle. For example, if you set your Traeger to 150 degrees F for smoking, it might turn on the auger for 10 seconds, and turn it off for 70 or 80 seconds. Duty cycles are typically stated as a percentage of the time the auger is actually running. A duty cycle of 50% is off half the time. A duty cycle of 100% is on all the time.

Each temperature setting on your Traeger has a different duty cycle. That said, the ON time of the auger is always the same, and its the OFF time of the auger that is variable. Lower temperatures have longer OFF times, and higher temperatures have shorter OFF times.

    Hottest Luxury Wood Pellet Grills

If you have over $2,000 to spend on a wood pellet grill which pellet grills provide the hottest in-direct/direct temperatures? Well, there are other pellet grills from Memphis and Cookshack to consider which do offer higher temperature settings above the PB500 and Beale Street, however, they are not the hottest pellet grills.

An honourable mention goes to Coyote pellet grills which offer a very impressive maximum temperature setting of 700 degrees! But again, they are are not currently the hottest pellet grills. That honour goes to Twin Eagles, as their pellet grills have a 725-degree temperature setting. The Twin Eagles pellet grills also have a charcoal basket insert which fits just under the grate. Why would you want to put a charcoal basket on a pellet grill?

Well, with the forced air pellet fire underneath that charcoal basket it results in a cooking grate surface temperature of between 1,000 and 1,500 degrees! Hence, the Twin Eagles pellet grills currently offer the highest/hottest cooking temperatures on the market.
