Using A General Contractor Over A Specialist
Nothing against General Contractors, but make sure the contractor is delegating the work out to the proper authorities, instead of doing it himself. Even in new home construction, we recommend using a specialist like out subsidiary company Palm Beach Grill Center. The logic is as follows: you wouldnt ask your primary care physician to do brain surgery you would instead go to a Neurologist right? The same logic applies here. Companies like Palm Beach Grill Center have decades of experience specializing in such installs they eat, breath, and sleep the many nuances involved in getting an outdoor kitchen not only to look beautiful but also to code and made to last. Furthermore, a GC is not going to understand the vast array of grill types there are these days, we came across this wonderful post by Porch called Backyard Paradise: How to Build a Grill and Barbecue Stationt that covers with great detail the many types and furthermore has even more relevant details on how to build your outdoor kitchen.

Choosing gas? Great! Use a licensed contractor to ensure that your outdoor kitchen has proper grill vents and outdoor kitchen ventilation. Sure, you may save a few bucks hitting up the black market of noncertified plumbers, but the dangers arent worth it you really dont want to mess around with avoidable gas leaks and build-ups . When it comes to venting, placement is everything. Install those vent panels every 46 feet away to dampen build-up. Since natural gas rises, place vent panels as high as possible for those installations the opposite is true for propane gas, which sinks.

Think Of The Big Picture
Will your grill be close to railings? Consider making your grill island dual-purpose by incorporating a bar or overhanging counter on the backside of your installation. Do you have limited space? Ensure your design doesn’t compromise your dining space. Sometimes, a smaller kitchen you can enjoy with guests may be a better option than a larger kitchen that disrupts the flow of your outdoor space.
Extra planning considerations shouldnt be limited to aesthetics, either. Consider access for gas, electricity and water if youll be incorporating these elements into your design. Upcycled Wood And Brick Outdoor Kitchen
You can build the perfect outdoor kitchen cabinets to surround your grill with some leftover wooden posts and a few old bricks or stones. I love the rustic look of this one and you can have it completed in just a weekend. Once its done, you just slide your grill into place and you have a lovely outdoor kitchen for just a fraction of the cost of having a professional build it for you.
Work With A Contractor
You may decide on the contractor option. You can hire a contractor to build a built-in grill on your deck from scratch.
While this may sound great, there are a few caveats.
Most often a contractor will build a traditional masonry outdoor kitchen. This, in particular, comes with its own set of challenges.
As mentioned before, weight is a concern.
Your decking simply may be unable to handle the weight of a stone masonry kitchen. These materials can also lead to accidents when transporting them, due to sheer burden. This can severely damage your deck Or worse, someone could get injured on the job.
Masonry is also quite messy. Theres a lot of cutting, dust, etc. involved that isnt just bothersome It can ruin the finish of your decking if not protected.
As youre aware, decks provide limited working space. Materials have to be moved up stairs, around railings, etc In some cases, it may not be possible to build a kitchen island according to the traditional method.
Looking to longevity of your outdoor kitchens At some point you may have to replace a section of your deck. With masonry, its highly unlikely youll be able to move your deck outdoor kitchen to a different location. Youll most likely have to demolish it, which would be an absolute shame!
Further, most contractors are not deeply knowledgeable about outdoor kitchens. This can end up costing you a lot of money. Scratch-built kitchens also take a long time and can disrupt your backyard and home for months.
