How To Clean My Weber Gas Grill

Cleaning Your Heat Shields Orceramic Briquettes

How To Clean Your Gas Grill | Weber Grills

Depending on the model, your grill may use heat shields or ceramic briquettes. A heatshield or heat deflector is a piece of metal that sits over the burner todistribute heat. Ceramic briquettes look like little tiles, or stylized piecesof charcoal, all the same size and shape.

Its also possible that your grill has lavarocks little clumps of volcanic rock that look like charcoal. Lava rocks arehard to clean. Their porous surface absorbs grease, and theyll fall apart ifyou try to scrub them. If you have lava rocks, we recommend replacing them withceramic briquettes.

Ceramic briquettes are easy to clean with awire brush. Remove them, and scrub until any debris falls off. If you have a heatshield, spray it with a degreaser, then clean it with a wire brush or brillopad and wipe it clean with a cloth. Do not use water or degreaser on briquettes as they will crumble.

Both heat shields and ceramic briquettes willwear out eventually, so you should inspect them carefully as you clean. If yourbriquettes are starting to crumble when you clean them, its probably time toreplace them. However, cracks or nicks on a few briquettes shouldnt be aproblem. As long as theyre mostly intact, they should work fine.

Heat shields, on the other hand, are often thefirst thing to wear out on a grill. If your heat shields are rusty or warped, they cant disperse heat evenly, and may not protect the burner from drippingheat. That means its probably time to replace them.

Completing The Clean Up

Once you are done with cleaning the tubes you need to ensure some finishing touch to get a good working gas burner. Before you start to reassemble the whole parts theres a need to clean the cooking grates too.

The heat distribution system needs a good clean up also. Otherwise, theres no point in investing so much time in cleaning the tubes.

Make sure the heat distribution system is free from any debris. Be sure to follow the same thing for grills lid also. Have a proper check both inside and outside. Use a putty knife to do a good scraping job. Simply wipe the lid and clean it up.

These minor clean up afterward are surely taking some time. Its not my favorite task also! However to go great with the burner for a long run you need to take the hassle of a deep cleaning. Its worth your efforts, I PROMISE!

Make sure you give a good amount of time to do these regular cleanings. This would add life to the grills life. Remember the tubes and burners are the heartbeats of a gas grill.

Unblocking The Blocked Holes

You will see a lot of ports in a burner. These ports are of different shapes. Some are square and rectangular while others are circular. When they get dirty, you will notice the shapes appear deformed. This means dust has blocked the ports.

When weve mentioned toothpick, you mustve laughed. You might be thinking what can a toothpick do? Well, this is where the toothpick comes in. Take one end of the toothpick and clear out all the dust. You dont need to apply too much pressure.

As the toothpick has a pointy edge, it will clear the dust easily. Be aware. Dont make the holes too big while cleaning them. This happens way too frequently. Bigger holes mean the gas will leak and the grill wont function properly. Gently clean the ports while maintaining their original shape.

Grill Care For Every Time You Grill

How to Clean a Gas Grill

Before each use, use tongs and a paper towel soaked in cooking oil to lightly coat grill grates. This provides grates with a protective coating and helps to keep foods from sticking to grates.

For charcoal grills, remove cold ashes from the kettle after each use.

After each use, turn the grill to high to burn off food residue, then follow by brushing grates with a high-quality brass wire grill brush. Clean any grease drippings on the outside of the grill with soapy water and a sponge. Leaving grease drippings on the outside of your grill can damage the paint and other surfaces.

How To Clean Weber Gas Grill Burner Tubes

Grills from Weber are undoubtedly some of the best products available on the market. Weber is known for its durability and long-lasting performance, which is why it has become a household name. Their durability makes them a good choice.

It does not mean, however, that they will not need to be cleaned and maintained correctly. Weber gas grills will last a lifetime, but they need to be maintained. To keep our grills clean and free of debris, we usually focus on cleaning the grill grates, grease tray, and firebox.

Cleaning those burners is often forgotten.

Today we will share how to clean the burner tubes of a Weber gas grill so they continue to heat the food properly.

  • Garbage bag

1): Brush The Grates

All burners need to be turned up to HIGH, and the grates need to be burned off for 10-15 minutes. The grates top side should be cleaned using a grill brush. Then flip the grilling grates over and brush the backside once they are cool enough to handle safely. Grates should be removed and set aside.

2)Scrape The Flavorizer Bars

Utilizing a wide putty knife, scrape both sides of each Flavorizer bar into the grill after it has cooled sufficiently. It is essential to examine every bar. The food drippings and high temperatures that Flavorizer bars are exposed to cause the bars to rust often. It is not necessary to replace them until the rusted part of the casing wears through and breaks. Once youve scraped the Flavorizer bars, put them aside.

3): Scrape The Upper Firebox

Clean All Parts Once A Year

This seasonal or annual cleaning requires some simple disassembly so you can clean each part separately let and dry it thoroughly before reassembling the grill. Make sure to disconnect the gas hookups before removing the burners.

The burners require special attention. Makes sure the jets are free of debris. A thin wire or small nail can help to open up any holes that are plugged.

Conclude by wiping down the outside of the grill, using warm water. Wipe dry to prevent rust.

Inspect All The Parts

How to Clean a Gas Grill – Deep Cleaning the Weber

The annual cleaning is a good time to inspect all the parts and replace any that are worn or damaged. Grill burners can eventually wear out, as can the heat deflectors and other parts. Hardware stores sell many of the parts necessary to tune up a grill, and the grill manufacturer may offer them for sale online.

Clean The Heat Deflectors

Many gas grills have thin steel plates, angled in the shape of a “V,” that separate the burners from the cooking chamber. These heat deflectors serve to distribute heat evenly around the cooking chamber and prevent the gas flames from burning the foods directly overhead. Grease and food residue often drips down onto these deflectors.

Clean the deflectors after every three of four uses of the grill by removing them from the cooking chamber and scrubbing them with warm soapy water and a nylon brush or scrubbing pad. Dry them completely before putting them back in the grill.

How Do I Unblock A Weber Burner

A: To unblock a Weber burner, you must first remove the top of the burner. You can do this by using a screwdriver or your hands. Once you have removed the top, you will see a small hole in the middle of the burner. This is where you need to insert a thin wire into and then pull it out from the other side of the burner.

Quick tip you can even use white vinegar to clean your bbq! Finish the cleaning just like how you would clean any other gas grill burners.

Make sure to have all the grates and rotisseries removed from the burner. You can do this by removing the burner. It is easier to have it cleaned when it is detached from the actual product. Make sure not to leave any grates to be assured that even heating will be given out by the product the next time you are cooking.

The Virtual Weber Gas Grill

How to clean your gas grill.

In a post last year, I said I was a clean freak when it comes to my grill. But sometimes I get busy and/or lazy and I let my Weber Summit 450 go too long between cleanings. I know its starting to get bad when I have a hard time lighting the grill because the ignitors are clogged with debris. I know its getting even worse when the burners are burning unevenly and with yellow flames because some of the burner holes are clogged. Thats when I know its time to break down and do a deep cleaning of my grill.

Heres how I do it.

Grill Cleaning Tools & Supplies Needed

To deep clean your grill youll need the following tools and supplies:

  • Grill brush
  • Narrow and wide putty knives
  • Stainless steel bristle brush
  • Eyeglass screwdriver or paper clip
  • Disposable latex/nitrile gloves
  • Windex, Simple Green or similar cleaner
  • Stainless steel cleaner
  • Towels/rags
  • Garbage bag

During some of the steps shown below, you may want to wear disposable gloves to keep your hands clean.

Clean Grates And Racks After Each Use

Cleaning chores are much easier if they are done often, after each use of the grill. This is critical with gas grills since the high temperatures can bake on grease and foods, making it challenging to clean the grates and racks once they cool and the grease hardens.

Make sure to clean these parts after every cooking session.

Maintenance Is A Must

Just like any other appliance, Weber Grill also needs maintenance to maximize its features and stretch its longevity. But unlike your car that was needed to regularly bring to the car cleaning station, you can merely clean your grill after five to six times of use, so it doesnt actually take so much time on maintenance.

Do not use cold water for immersing your grill because it might damage your unit. The hot water immersion is a better strategy.

Beware of grease build up. Grease usually damage the coating of any appliance, so it is best to remove it as much as possible. The aluminum drip tray is a good idea where it can collect all these debris. Waiting for the grease to build-up is irresponsible because it would become a fire hazard. But you should not only monitor grease in your grills but also on other appliances.

Aside from remembering the last time you cleaned your grill and monitoring the grease build-up, you must also acquire a good brush that doesnt have metal bristles or any other rough material because it might damage your grill. Choose a brush that has soft bristles because it would be much more suitable for cleaning.

The Weber grill is a good appliance that would make barbecue parties better, but a responsible owner would always make sure that it is maintained, clean, and functional. Following these guidelines would surely guarantee that your grill would last for a very long time.

Let’s Look At The Burner Tubes

How to Clean Your Weber Gas Grill

Why burner tubes are relevant to gas grills? Grilling great, sumptuous food requires quality functioning burners because without those, we can never enjoy our grilled food. Burner maintenance is the key! Burners are where the flames of the grill come out. What were discussed above, both the flavorizer bars and cook box were mentioned as well as how to clean them. But the burner tubes were left out. Despite being well protected, not maintaining the burner tubes will eventually result in surface corrosion. You wouldnt want to use clogged burner portholes, do you? The clogged portholes will result in uneven heat. Brush cleaners come in handy which is why you must have a set of two. One will solely be used in cleaning surfaces and the other will be used for the burners only. With having the right number of sets of brushes, you will avoid transferring the grease from the surface to your burners which cause you bigger trouble. Here is how to clean Weber gas grill burner tubes:

  • Across the surface, brushing breadthwise is advised in cleaning the burners instead of lengthwise.
  • Take note that your burner tubes need a good cleaning or replacement is necessary.
  • Once you see that the portholes are clogged and cracking which will make it impossible for you to re-open, its high time for a replacement.

Deep Cleaning And Maintenance

After youve cooked the last burger of the season, thoroughly clean your grill before storing it for the winter. Remove the grates, burner hoods, and grease pan, and scrub them with hot, soapy water and a plastic scour pad. Do the same inside the firebox and lid. Thoroughly rinse and dry all parts before reassembling. Also, remove the battery from the igniter before storing your grill long-term so it doesnt corrode.

Even if you follow the strictest cleaning and maintenance schedule, you will have to replace some parts on your grill as it ages. The burner hoods and cooking grates in particular take a lot of abuse and arent meant to last forever. My dad replaced these parts on his 17-year-old Weber Genesis four to five times over the years.

Routine Maintenance For Charcoal Grills

  • Use a grass wire grill brush to remove smoke buildup from the inside of the kettle. Smoke and grease buildup resembles flaking paint. If needed, wash the inside of the kettle using warm soapy water.
  • Wash the outside surface of the kettle with warm soapy water. Rinse soap residue from the grill with water after washing.
