Here Comes The Cheese
American cheese.
Flip that bread over and give every slice a piece of that American cheese. Next, add the shredded mozzarella, cheddar and pepper jack cheeses only to the bottom slice of the sandwich.
Next in turns Mozzarella, Cheddar, Pepper Jack.
Now, this is really going to add some great flavor- grate you a little of that jalapeño on top, to taste. Trust me!
Were going to grate some jalapeno on the Texas toast one.
Go ahead and put the sandwiches together and shut that lid. Remember, that grill is still on low. We just want that cheese to go to melting.
Sprinkle some garlic powder on your grilled cheese.
As the cheese begins to melt, you can add some more butter on the bread and flip it. Butter again, and give it a little dusting of garlic powder for some good flavor.
Now youll put those sandwiches straight on the bottom part of the grill because were going to get some good grill marks and crunch.
Let it brown on the hotter side of the grill.
When you get to the point where your sandwich has a little char to it, Ive got one more surprise for you some Parmesan. Give it a little more butter, and then a good coating on top with the grated Parmesan.
Top it with some Parmesan.
Just keep it on the heat until you get the grill marks how you like them.
Doing this on the grill really does give this a unique flavor and you cant beat the crunch and light char the grill gives these.
Tips For The Best Grilled Cheese

- Low heat it takes a little patience to make the perfect grilled cheese. Keep your heat on low to give the cheese time to fully melt while the bread gets golden and crisp. If browning too fast, turn the heat down.
- Butter generously the amount of butter may seem like a lot, but it is important for a crispy exterior.
- Use thick-sliced bread we love using Texas toast because its sliced about twice as thick as normal sandwich bread. You want bread that is about 3/4 to 1 thick, but also avoid bread that is too thick or your cheese wont melt properly. Using bread that is too thin will produce a flimsy and sometimes soggy sandwich.

How To Actually Grill A Grilled Cheese Sandwich Think About It
We’ve all been calling grilled cheese sandwiches by an entirely false name. These sandwiches are great, there’s no denying that — but unless you’re actually grilling your sandwich outside or indoors on a grill pan, these beauties are usually pan-fried in a skillet, and not grilled at all. We’re not here to discuss the how and why of this strange fact, but we are going to present a novel idea: grilling the classic grilled cheese sandwich.
That’s right folks, we’re talking about putting the GRILLED back in grilled cheese. There are a few different things to keep in mind when actually grilling cheese sandwiches. The folks at Fix.com have kindly shared their knowledge with us in the form of the infographic below.
First, you’ll want to use thick slices of bread. Regular sandwich bread may fall apart on the grill. Second, use lots of butter to coat the outsides of the bread. Like, lots. This ensures the bread won’t stick to the grates. Next, grill to perfection starting off on a medium heat zone to get a nice toast, and moving over to a low heat zone to melt the cheese. Don’t understand what that means? Let the Fix.com chart explain it for you:

Warning: Check that the cheese doesnt hang over the sides of the bread slices since it could drip inside your toaster and create a fire hazard.
How Much Cheese To Use
I find that using at least 2 thick slices, about to ¼-inch max, of sharp cheddar provides just the right ratio of cheese-to-bread. If the slices are any thicker, itll affect the melt time. If using a block of cheese, you can grate or shred it to make an even layer, although it will melt quicker than slices.
When placing the cheese on top of the unbuttered side of the bread, leave a little bit of space along the edges so the cheese doesnt spew over, unless you like a little bit of fried cheese on the edges.

Tips And Tricks For Upgrading
Tip 1: One concern that I’ve heard about is that the air fryer makes the top piece of bread fly off because of the intense air circulation that goes on inside the appliance. To avoid this, you can simply stab the grilled cheese with a tooth-pic and voila – problem solved!
Tip 2: Don’t use any metal utensils to flip your grilled cheese. The nonstick is super important for the air fryer basket so you don’t want to use anything that might damage it.
Tip 3: Over the last 10 years, I’ve probably shared thousands of ways to upgrade a grilled cheese sandwich. Some of my most basic easy additions include adding bacon, avocado, spicy mayo, a fried egg, pickles, and the like.

I prefer to use my cast iron skillet as it maintains a consistent heat better and gives a superior crispy surface. A nonstick skillet works well and prevents sticking if using sweeter types of bread. In either case, you want to use very moderate heat for making the sandwiches, about medium-low or low if the bread is toasting too quickly.

Melted Butter Is A Must
The key to an evenly-greased and toasted bread is to brush the top and bottom of the sandwich with melted butter. You can microwave the butter and easily brush the liquid on each slice. This allows you to control how much of the fat is applied so it doesnt get too soggy.
Do this step right before adding to the preheated pan. If you have salted butter, that would enhance the flavor further. The milk solids in the butter transform into nutty, deep golden brown hues when gently heated and this elevates the taste and texture.

Can You Reheat Grilled Cheese
Yes, you can reheat grilled cheese and there are a few ways to keep it nice and crispy, with a melty inside. No grilled cheese will ever be as delicious as freshly made grilled cheese, but there are methods of making it good.
What you want to avoid is the microwave, mostly because it can get you very inconsistent results and youll often end up with a soggy mess. So the main options are the frying pan, broiler, panini press and the likes.
All of these require you to take the sandwich out of the fridge and let it get to room temperature . Otherwise the difference between the outside and inside will be too much, especially if its a thick one with lots of cheese.
