How To Grill Beef Ribs In The Oven

How to Grill Baby Back Ribs | Recipe

Grilling beef ribs in the oven follows the same process as grilling on open flames or a gas grill.

With the oven, you will need to preheat it to around 225°F before placing your beef ribs inside.

Put the meat on the middle rack and allow it to cook for 1½-2 hours, turning a couple of times in between.

You can cover it with foil to ensure it doesn’t dry out and remove the foil in the last 20-30 minutes to brown.

Another way to give that glazed, seared, and charred effect is by turning the oven to the broiler setting, which comes closest to grilling.

These Grilled Country Style Ribs are first dry rubbed with a blend of ground cumin, oregano, black pepper and other warm spices before grilling. The exterior gets crusty and the tender interior is juicy. No typical BBQ sauce on these for an alternative, but feel free. Plus, no rib bones to deal with, just seasoned meat!

Typically my thoughts of any rib goes to a tender piece of meat, seasoned well and covered in a delicious, lip smackin sauce thats sticky and has a little kick. Well, like my Memphis Style Ribs, you dont always need to have a sauce on your ribs for a killer meal.

And it doesnt always have to have that Southern flavor either.

Take these Grilled Country Style Ribs for instance. I decided to go the Mediterranean style route for the dry rub, but feel free to use whatever dry rub suits you. For the mop sauce I just used lemon juice and a little honey.

No BBQ Sauce on this round of ribs, but again, feel free to use whatever you like. The cooking time on these will be the same.

    Temperature Time And Doneness

Rib recipes are going to take quite a while longer than most things you cook on your gas grill. Combining large pieces of meat and lots of chewy connective tissues means that long cooking times are inevitable.

To keep from overcooking and over-drying the meat, the heat must be kept low. Nearly all rib recipes aim for 250 degrees Fahrenheit or so. This is similar to a smoking recipe, and indeed smoking is a great way to go with ribs.

If you have one, use an internal remote-probe thermometer when cooking ribs so that you can gauge doneness inside the foil.

Interestingly, you should cook ribs to a very high internal temperature well past the standard done point. Aim for 225 degrees Fahrenheit .

This is so much higher than the standard pork temperature of 145°F because of the extra time needed to break down the collagen.

When placing your thermometer probe, use extra care to get it in the fattest part of the meat but as far from the bone as possible. The bone will get warm much faster than the rest of the meat will.

Another great way to gauge the doneness of ribs is to bend or twist one of the bones. If it easily peels away from the meat, you know youre there, and the collagen has melted. Youre at the falls off the bone point right where you want to be.

How To Grill Beef Ribs In Foil

    Grilled Crockpot Ribs

While many people like to grill beef ribs directly over an open flame, some genuinely prefer to use foil packets instead.

Grilling beef ribs in foil would follow a similar process as doing it without foil.

The difference is that you will need to place the marinated beef ribs on a reasonably sized piece of foil that will fold over and seal tightly.

You will then place the foil pack on the grill on indirect heat. The foil will trap steam and help the ribs cook much quicker without drying it out.

The meat will retain all its juices by absorbing it back while cooking, and you will end up with the most delicious, tender, and flavorful grilled beef ribs.

Why Slow Cooking Ribs On A Gas Grill Is The Way To Go

Cooking ribs is quite the event. Theyre a big chunk of meat, full of flavor but also contain lots of fat and connective tissues.

With the wrong cooking method, they can come out tough and chewy an epic disappointment. But when theyre good, theyre unbelievably good.

So whats required to get them right?

The answer is time and careful preparation. This isnt a dish where you can take shortcuts. You cant move them to direct heat to hasten their progress. All of the connective tissues in the ribs need time to break down during the cooking process.

Its also important to realize that while ribs are commonly associated with grilling, throwing them on the grill isnt the simplest way to get the best results.

The beauty of cooking ribs is all of the flavors that can be captured and turned into a delicious sauce and glaze. There should never be a need for a bottle of sugary sauce when you cook your baby back ribs from scratch.

But to do this, youve got to fully embrace low and slow indirect cooking methods. In technical terms, the best way to cook ribs is via braising, not grilling. High-temperature direct heat is not your friend with ribs.

With that in mind, charcoal doesnt make much sense.

These ribs are going to bubble away for hours. Do you want to be tinkering with keeping your coals at just the right temperature for that long?

How to grill One Hour Spare Ribs | Recipe

After a year of trial and error, we finally discovered a no-fail technique that always results in amazing ribs. This recipe works for both pork and beef ribs.

Many recipes will have you boil the ribs to precook them before putting them on the BBQ. We found that boiling the ribs melted the fat away and resulted in a drier rib. Once it sits on the BBQ, it dries out even more and you are forced to slather it in BBQ sauce just to salvage it.

Other recipes will have you cook the ribs in the oven and then serve it. This works well, but it tastes like meat that was cooked in the oven. There is no smoky BBQ smell or bits of crunchy meat.

This recipe combines the best of both worlds. Slow cook it in the oven and then pop it on the BBQ to finish. Depending on the BBQ sauce you choose, you can even add this to your list of paleo recipes!
