Weber Made In Huntley Illinois

Being the biggest name in BBQ, Weber came into the pellet grill game with their SmokeFire range much later than many people expected .

There are features of the Weber SmokeFire range I like, and there are some features which Im not a fan of. Some of these issues were addressed with the Gen 2 SmokeFire, however, when it comes to its smoking capabilities, I still think theres room for improvement.

Anyway, what we are talking about here is where are the Weber SmokeFire pellet grills made? Well, Weber states they are made in Chicago , specifically in Huntley, Illinois just outside of Chicago.

The Weber SmokeFire EX4 and the EX6 are stated by Weber to be made in Chicago: Images BBQGuys.com

If thats the case why have I written Sort Of in the title? Well, Weber states their SmokeFire pellet grills are made in Chicago from U.S. and globally sourced components.

Hence, its not actually clear if the Chicago plant is simply an assembly line, or if like the other brands below actual fabrication of the pellet grills is being carried out in the US.

The Weber SmokeFire range is priced at around $1,000 to $1,200, as other brands around that price point are not able to produce a grill in the US for that price point, how are Weber able to?

You could say its because Weber is the largest BBQ manufacturer, hence through scale they have cracked the code of making a pellet grill in the US for that price point, and that might very well be the case.

Heres Why You Should Avoidimported Grills

How to Find Grills Made in the USA (+ Best American Made Grills!) – AllAmerican.org

1. Manufacturing, environmental and laborstandards. Companies building grills in the United States are subject tostringent regulations. This means that if your grill is built in the US, itslikely to be built by people who have been compensated fairly. Likewise, theenvironment likely wasnt harmed in its creation.

2. The frustration of not having access toparts such as grease trays, valves, manifolds, knobs, wheels, and bodyparts. These are just some of the parts you may not be able to replace. Many ofthe parts are only available on the aftermarket . Remember when you import products, you are subject to minimum quantity orders. When you have dozens of models using the same burners and heat shields, meetingthat MOQ is easier than other replacement parts thatare specific to model sizes.

3. There is no commitment to manufacturingequipment. When manufacturing is subcontracted, you are relying on thecontractor to stay in business and have quality and consistent manufacturing. Often, if they change equipment, the engineering of your grill model willchange thus making replacement parts obsolete. Then, when you need areplacement part, it no longer exists.

At that point, what are the replacementoptions? Often there is no replacement. Modification of the outdoor kitchen andcountertop becomes necessary, creating a huge expense. This situation rarelyoccurs in a US-manufactured grill, as we sell at the BBQ Depot.

It was the early 1950s, the brazier grill was king and George Stephen was not impressed. Braziers lacked lids, leaving food exposed to rain and flooding the coalbed with oxygen, creating uncontrollably hot fires. According to Smithsonian Magazine, Stephen, a salesman for Weber Brothers Metal Works, was filling out orders for buoys from the Coast Guard and Chicago Yacht Club when it hit him he needed a lid. He cut a buoy into two half-spheres, added legs and punched holes in the top and bottom for airflow. The Weber Kettle was born.

Webers original kettle remains its most popular grill today, but in the 60-plus years since its invention, the company has expanded. The Weber name is stamped on propane gas grills, smokers, electric grills and portable grills. There are sub-products under each category, each at different price points, and all with different features. Heres everything you need to know about the most famous name in grilling.

Ten Surprising Products Still Made In America

Try taking your everyday shopping trip to your nearest department or grocery store and buy only American. A little difficult? Employment in Americas manufacturing sector has experienced a precipitous decline in recent years. The U.S. lost 33.1 percent of its manufacturing jobs between 2000-2010, according to the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation. Many of those jobs ended up going to countries such as China, India and Brazil that provide cheaper labor and have looser employment regulations.

But because costs of labor and energy are now on the rise overseas, manufacturing may be in the early stages of a rebound in the U.S. An April study by the Boston Consulting Group found that a third of manufacturers with revenue over $1 billion were considering moving jobs back to the United States. At 58 cents an hour, bringing manufacturing back was impossible, but at $3 to $6 an hour, where wages are today in coastal China, all of a sudden the equation changes, Harold L. Sirkin, a managing director at BCG told The New York Times.

While some companies are considering returning jobs to the U.S., some brands never went away. 24/7 Wall St. compiled a list of 10 highly visible American brands that are still made in the States. All of the products are well known to consumers. While most are market leaders, what makes them unique is that the competition manufactures their products abroad or theyre the only game in town.

Weber Grills Are Versatile

You could just use your Weber grill to broil hot dogs, but then you wouldn’t be getting a lot of bang for your buck. From smoking meat to making smash burgers to making pizza, a classic Weber kettle grill can do a lot.

If you’re wondering how to turn your charcoal grill into a smoker, it’s actually pretty easy to do with just charcoal briquettes, a pan of water, and wood chips. The so-called ‘snake method’ starts by lining two rows of briquettes around three-fourths of the grill’s perimeter and topping them with wood chips. A pan of water is filled about three-quarters of the way and placed inside this briquette snake. Ignite one end of the snake, and the briquettes will ignite one by one, causing the wood chips above them to start smoking. The result is a low-and-slow smoking process thermoregulated by the pan of water in the middle.

Love smoky flavors in your burger, but also want a thin crusty smash burger? Using a simple flattop adaptor, it’s pretty easy to make smash burgers on a Weber charcoal grill. Just put the insert on a hot grill, let it get up to temperature, prep your ingredients, and get cooking .

Maybe you’ve also wondered how to make pizza on a grill. All it takes is a pizza stone, a pizza peel, and a bit of a learning curve. Since the grill will quickly cook the dough, be sure to cook any toppings ahead of time.

History Of Weber Grills:

Weber Grills is a name undeniably associated with backyard barbecues and picnic grills. Weber-Stephen was originally founded as Weber-Bros Metal Works back in 1893.

The company debuted in the field of grills in 1952. The legend is that George Stephen worked as an employee at Weber Bros Metal Works invented a new kind of grill.

George took two half buoys and made a new grill, which today is the world-famous Weber domed shape grill.

This was particularly useful as it helped avoid excessive toxin smoke from the grill. This grill was named Sputnik by Georges neighbors.

In the late 1950s, George Stephen bought the complete Weber Brother factory and became the sole owner of the venture. Another milestone was achieved by Weber Inc in 1989 when the company opened its first Grill restaurant in Wheeling, Illinois.

It was closed in 2010. Apart from it, the company opened four other restaurants in Lombard, Chicago, Schaumburg, and Indianapolis.

In a bankruptcy sale in 2004, the company purchased assets from Ducane Products, one of its rivals. Until 2010, the business was passed down through the families.

In 2010, Byron David Trott, BDT Capital Ventures, acquired a majority stake in Weber Inc, and since then, they have been running this business.

There are not that many significant differences between the two. One the one hand, Napoleon is slightly less expensive and does give you a larger primary cooking area, but the Weber is also great and has some cool features. While they are both easy to use, the Weber will probably suit the beginner better than Napoleon.

Neither the Traeger Pro Series , the Ironwood or the latest version of the Timberline is made in the US: Images Traegergrills.com

Traeger felt they had to move manufacturing abroad to expand the company while still offering products at a price point their customers are happy to pay. Hence, today all Traeger pellet grills are made in China.

Traeger LLC is still based in the US, and they engineer and design their pellet grills/smokers at their US offices. However, all of their domestic products the Pro Series, Ironwood and Timberline models pictured above are now manufactured abroad.

Traeger did also previously manufacture commercial pellet grills/smokers for restaurants etc, and those models were made in the USA. However, Traeger appears to have now completely phased out its commercial product range.

What Makes Weber Grills Worth It

Weber grills aren’t the cheapest grills, but they’re also not super expensive. All of the brand’s grills are made in the U.S., using only the best parts and materials, which are either sourced from the U.S. or outside the country. Before any grill goes out, the brand tests everything to ensure it matches the brand’s high standards. In terms of longevity, Weber grills will last you practically forever . And if for some reason something goes wrong with your grill, Weber has an excellent customer support team, who can help you find replacement parts and services.

The middle-tier kettle is exactly the same as the Original, but adds three useful features: a built-in lid thermometer, hinged grates and a removable ash catch. The lid thermometer is useful for longer cooks when the lid will remain on the kettle for longer stretches . The hinged grate allows you to lift part of the grate up to add more fuel without having to pull the entire thing out. A removable ash catch is great for those of us who would like to avoid ash-covered finger nails. Plus, its the only kettle that comes in different colors.
