Traeger Grill Reviews : Is Traeger Elite Really The Best Wood Pellet Grill

One of my favorite ways of spending the weekend is having friends and family over along with some;outdoor grilling. If you are here, you have most likely researched a bit about different Pellet grills and know why Traeger grills are a rage amongst regular grillers. I am hopeful in helping you take the final leap.

So if you are someone who enjoys grilling regularly, it is high time you bought a wood pellet grill, specifically a Traeger grill. Now I know you are asking the obvious question, what is so special about Traeger? Read my entire Traeger grill review below to find out.

Joe Traeger first introduced the concept of Pellet Grill in 1980s. Pellet grills are a rage amongst backyard grillers because they can grill, roast and smoke all in one. Since it uses indirect electric heat, there are no chances for it to burn into flames, unlike a gas grill.;It is the perfect cooking appliance for a novice chef, looking to experiment with different dishes. Which is actually one of the primary reason for its unbelievable popularity.

Although pellet grill smokers are more expensive than your regular electric smokers, they come with great convenience as they do not demand your undivided attention. Now although there are a lot of reviews online available about pellet grills in general, none of them provided in-depth information about different models of Traeger Grills. So we decided to take on the challenge!

Automation Helps You Eliminate Stress When Hosting

Because the auger feeds the fire pot with wood pellets from the hopper, there’s an auto-ignition of the pellets. Unlike charcoal grills, theres no need for a charcoal starter. Remember the days when you stressed about adding charcoal midway through barbequing or smoking? Traeger eliminates this process all together.

Traeger Grills Tailgater 20

One word is best used to describe the Tailgater series from Traeger- portability.

If you want to enjoy the comfort and flavor of pellet smoking from a portable grill, then; Traeger Grills Tailgater 20 is a smart choice.

The 300 square inches cooking space isnt large. I was able to cook up to 4 racks of ribs. And some other time, I also cooked 2 chickens.

At 62lbs, the weight is minimal, making it easy to transport. The hopper can hold a weight of up to 8lbs. That way, you can cook up to 6 hours without the need to refill.

It features foldable legs that let you transport your grill from to your desired location. However, with its portable feature, you have some other features to lose. For example, Traeger Grills Tailgater 20 has no WIFI feature or more advanced features that you can find in the Ironwood, pro, or Timberline pellet grills.

Even with that, I love the excellent performance of the grill and its capacity to smoke anywhere between 180-450°F.

It also comes with a digital controller that helps you maintain a steady cooking temperature with 20 degrees accuracy.

Although, when camping, grilling with charcoal sounds pretty nice, the versatile nature of a pellet grill is top-notch. That you can grill, smoke, and bake, is the incredible advantages of using pellet smokers.

Timberline Vs Ironwood Differences

Fully Insulated

The Timberline is a step above the Ironwood and has superior insulation. The Ironwood only has double walled sides, but the Timberline has double walled sides, a double walled hood, and a double walled back. This allows the Timberline to retain heat and maintain stable temperatures.

Larger Cooking Area

The Timberline can hold meat on three levels, with adjustable racks. The enormous surface area can hold 12 chickens, or 15 rib racks, which is enormous.

Additional Timberline Features

There are also a few minor differences between the Timberline and the Ironwood such as a concealed grease pan, a stainless steel shelf, a magnetic bamboo cutting board. The grill grates on the Timberline are made of stainless steel, whereas the Pro Series and Ironwood have Porcelain coated steel grates.

How To Select The Best Traeger Smoker

With several brands of Traeger, making the right choice can be difficult. I remembered feeling intimidated by the various Traeger lines.

However, to choose the best Traeger grill, you need to weigh your options. Here is a refactors that helped me when choosing a Traeger grill.

Size

If you notice, most of the Traeger pellet grills highlighted, start from 300-1300 square ft. Firstly; make sure you sort out how much food you want to cook.

The larger the size, the higher the price. So have that in mind. If you are cooking for a large guest, then dont consider a small size.

However, you may waste more pellets or spend a lot of money if you go for a too-big brand. Also, you must consider the pellet hoppers size.

Large hoppers accommodate sufficient pellets, and you would only need to refill after prolonged use, if necessary. I recommend going for a grill that is a buy larger than your requirements.

Features

There are two categories of buyers; those who prefer to have the grill stocked with the latest tech and those who never cared about the tech but prefer a grill with the excellent build quality.

What features would you prefer and which can you do without.

Here are some features you will find on pellet grills.

  • Wifi connectivity- Do you wish you can monitor and control your Traeger pellet smoker from anywhere?
  • Searing- Although most pellet grills do a great smoking job, some struggle with searing. Thats why most manufacturers added a searing feature as an attachment.

Traeger Grills Tfb38tca Renegade Elite

Traeger Ironwood 650 & 885 vs Traeger Pro 575 & 780 – What Are The Differences?

Renegade Elite from Traeger is a rebel. Coming at 380 square inches, it is a bit bigger than the tailgate.

During the best Trager pellet smoker review, one thing I noticed about this pellet smoker is that the manufacturer designed the product to enhance the quality of life rather than looking luxurious.

Thanks to the front gate, you can quickly load up your grill. Plus, you dont need a different side table anymore.

I love the tool feature of this series from Traeger; for example, the included tool basket that allows you to store your grill accessories in one basket. Feel free to put the fork, scraper, and other accessories in your basket. That way, you wont have to go here and there to take or store your accessories.

The hopper is simple to clean and maintain. To replace the pellet, what I do is to open the hatch at the back and have the pellets tumble out.

It makes it easier for you to change your pellet or literarily clean the hopper.; I also love the addition of the side grease drain.

How To Pick Wood Pellets For Smoking

Now that you have picked your pellet grill, its time to select the best wood pellet for your dishes. Keeping in mind that high-quality pellets can make all the difference in your recipe, let us learn what distinguishes a good pellet from a low-quality one.

Hardwood or Softwood

When it comes to choosing between hardwood and softwood pellets, both of them hold their merits as well as cons. On the one hand, hardwood pellets are stable and burn at a consistent temperature. Thus, they burn for a longer time and provide pure, thick smoke.

Softwood pellets, on the other hand, contain more lignin and burn at higher temperatures. They have higher BTUs, making them burn out faster than hardwood too.

If you want to smoke your dish slow and at low temperatures, opt for hardwood. However, if youre going to cook for a large crowd in a short time, go for the softwood pellets.

Ingredients

Before purchasing your pellets, you should also look at its content. Many brands try to lower their production cost by adding alder, oak, and chemical fillers to their pellets. It might save them money, but it affects the flavor negatively. Moreover, they burn at a lower temperature and produce a larger quantity of ash.

Make sure to purchase 100% natural flavored wood pellets for the best possible smoke in your BBQ.

Flavor

Different types of woods offer different flavored smoke for your meat. We have listed some of the best woods for your pellet grill.
