Top 5 gas grill brands made in the USA (or Canada) Not made in china

Weber is one of the great American success stories of one man and a single invention that eventually turned into a major U.S. company employing thousands. The man who started it all was George Stephen, Sr. who, according to Smithsonian Magazine, used pieces of a buoy to create a heavy-duty charcoal kettle grill in 1952.

While other grills were in existence at the time, they were inferior in design due to their open design, according to Stephens . His dome kettle grill kept out the elements and was believed to reflect heat efficiently to properly grill food.

Cookshack/fast Eddy Pellet Grills/smokers

Ive previously written a full article on the Cookshack pellet grill range, so please check out that article for the full details. Here Ill just quickly run through a few details about the company and their products. Cookshack is based in Ponca City, Oklahoma and they have been producing electric smokers since the 1960s.

Then in collaboration with BBQ expert and Pit Master Fast Eddy they developed their range of residential and commercial pellet grills/smokers. Their smallest unit is the PG500 seen at the top of this post, their other residential pellet grill is the PG1000 which is a more conventional design and features an insulated construction.

The PB1000 is one of two residential pellet grills/smokers made in the USA by Cookshack: Image BBQGuys.com

All Cookshack pellet grill/smokers are made from stainless steel. They feature a 4 cooking zone design. The first area is the hottest cooking area directly over the pellet fire where direct flame broiling is possible. The heat/smoke is then carried up to the upper rack which is the second cooking area before it is pulled down over the second grate which is the third cooking area. Below that is the fourth cooking area in a draw. Frequently used as an area to keep cooked food warm it can also be used as a cold smoker.

Weber Grills Industrial History

Somewhere in the 1950s, the founder of Weber Grills, George Stephen Sr. worked as an employee in the sales department of Weber Brothers Metal Works. This was a company that his father with a few of his friends operated at the time.

A Weber grill is known for its domed shape which is believed to give the best possible shape. This shape and the first grill itself date back to Weber Brothers Metal Works itself. The company was founded somewhere in the late 1890s. It was based in Chicago and manufactured a large variety of metal products. It produced metal products like hinges, wagons, cylinders and so on.

At the time, George Stephen Sr. had an inventive mind that was always teeming to experiment with different kinds of metals and making new shapes out of it. Stephen was very fond of grilling and barbecuing and so was his growing family which included 12 children.

In earlier times, the popular design of the grill was the open brazier that worked on charcoal or some other kind of coal. This appliance used a metal tray or mesh to hold the coals in place. The real problem of the grills was that the top half was left open. This meant that the food was left vulnerable to the weather.

History Of Weber Grills:

Weber Grills is a name undeniably associated with backyard barbecues and picnic grills. Weber-Stephen was originally founded as Weber-Bros Metal Works back in 1893.

The company debuted in the field of grills in 1952. The legend is that George Stephen worked as an employee at Weber Bros Metal Works invented a new kind of grill.

George took two half buoys and made a new grill, which today is the world-famous Weber domed shape grill.

This was particularly useful as it helped avoid excessive toxin smoke from the grill. This grill was named Sputnik by Georges neighbors.

In the late 1950s, George Stephen bought the complete Weber Brother factory and became the sole owner of the venture. Another milestone was achieved by Weber Inc in 1989 when the company opened its first Grill restaurant in Wheeling, Illinois.

It was closed in 2010. Apart from it, the company opened four other restaurants in Lombard, Chicago, Schaumburg, and Indianapolis.

In a bankruptcy sale in 2004, the company purchased assets from Ducane Products, one of its rivals. Until 2010, the business was passed down through the families.

In 2010, Byron David Trott, BDT Capital Ventures, acquired a majority stake in Weber Inc, and since then, they have been running this business.

I was attending an estate auction when I came across a box which appeared to have a small charcoal grill in it. Upon further inspection, I noticed it was a Weber smoker.

I was sure someone was gonna outbid me, but I won at $18. When I got home, I removed the smoker from the box and found out that it had never been used. I did not know much about the art of smoking or about these smokers until I stumbled across your site.

Well, I have been smoking this little guy every weekend since and the whole family loves the meals this thing turns out. This smoker has been a blast to use along with your site, and it will be smoking for a long time to come.

Weber Vs Broil King Price Points

How Our Weber Grills Are Made | Weber Grills

Ive reviewed the pricing points for Broil King vs Weber closely. Many grilling gurus automatically assume that Weber is more expensive. However, the pricing is closer than most grillers think. I rank both Weber and Broil King as affordable and high value. Maybe Weber is a tad more expensive, but not by much.

Lets quickly look at some of the affordable cooking and grilling options from Broil King vs Weber.

Broil King doesnt have many grilling options in the $100 to $200 range. However, they have a nifty portable stove that I like. Take this Broil King Porta-Chef Portable Stove as an example. Heres a low-cost portable stove from Broil King that will only run you a few hundred bucks or less.

Weber has some fantastic affordable grills like their famous Weber Original Kettle Premium Charcoal Grill or the Weber 741001 Original Kettle Charcoal Grill. Both options from Weber cost around $100 to $200. Thats BBQ grilling on a budget! The 3 products from Broil King vs Weber:

Broil King Signet 320

The Broil King Signet 320 is one of my favorite gas grills from Broil King. Many of the reviewers swear that this is one of the best gas grills on the market period.

The Broil King Signet 320 has excellent heat distribution due to the smart Flav-R-Wave system. Flav-R-Wave also adds serious flavor to your meats by catching any drippings and then letting the savory flavors vaporize into whatever youre grilling. No more dry steak, chicken, or sausage.

Where are Weber grills made now? Weber grills have been made in the United States since 1952, when George Stephen built his kettle grill from a buoy at Weber Brothers Metal Works in Mount Prospect, Ill. All but one of latest models are still manufactured in Palatine, Ill.

Both are solidly built grills with high-quality materials, but this is our verdict: Although Weber and Broil King both had a winner in each comparison category, the Broil King grills won in the best of three. Both the Baron 440 and the Weber Summit E-470 grills were almost identical in terms of size and heat.

Ten Surprising Products Still Made In America

Try taking your everyday shopping trip to your nearest department or grocery store and buy only American. A little difficult? Employment in Americas manufacturing sector has experienced a precipitous decline in recent years. The U.S. lost 33.1 percent of its manufacturing jobs between 2000-2010, according to the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation. Many of those jobs ended up going to countries such as China, India and Brazil that provide cheaper labor and have looser employment regulations.

But because costs of labor and energy are now on the rise overseas, manufacturing may be in the early stages of a rebound in the U.S. An April study by the Boston Consulting Group found that a third of manufacturers with revenue over $1 billion were considering moving jobs back to the United States. At 58 cents an hour, bringing manufacturing back was impossible, but at $3 to $6 an hour, where wages are today in coastal China, all of a sudden the equation changes, Harold L. Sirkin, a managing director at BCG told The New York Times.

While some companies are considering returning jobs to the U.S., some brands never went away. 24/7 Wall St. compiled a list of 10 highly visible American brands that are still made in the States. All of the products are well known to consumers. While most are market leaders, what makes them unique is that the competition manufactures their products abroad or theyre the only game in town.

Buying Usa Made Grills

When coming to a final decision for the best USA made grills, there a few factors to consider. The quality of your grill is one of the most important things to look for. Luckily for consumers, USA made grills are known to have excellent, long-lasting quality.

One factor to think about is the cooking surface area. Primo and Holland both have decent sized cooking area while the Americana and PK Grills have less surface area. If you plan on cooking for a large group, more space is always better.

While most USA-made grills are built with high-quality materials, rust and durability should also be a concern. The Holland Freedom grill comes with a 5-year rust warranty and a lifetime warranty on the grates. PK Grills is built out of cast aluminum, including the joints, so rust wonât be an issue here.

Portability may also be a concern, especially if you need to transport the grill. The Swinger grill is the most portable option on this list, but several others also include wheels on the legs to help you move the grill. PK grills have a good system for breakdown for when you want to take your grill on an adventure. The cast iron will be be heavier than cast aluminum though!

Yoder Ys640s Pellet Grill

Weber Spirit II Gas Grill Black (MADE IN USA) JB Saeed ...

For $150USD more than the Yoder YS480S above, you get a good deal of additional space with this model. Costing around $1,800USD this is a big smoker with a great, heavy metal look. This is a 335-pound unit built to produce a lot of great barbecue. No wonder it is a favorite among those serious about hardcore smoking. If you don’t need the large cooking chamber, you can save yourself some money by getting the Yoder above, but considering the price difference, I don’t really know why anyone would dig a little deeper and buy this pellet cooker. It is one of the best in its price range.

Is Napoleon Better Than Weber

There are not that many significant differences between the two. One the one hand, Napoleon is slightly less expensive and does give you a larger primary cooking area, but the Weber is also great and has some cool features. While they are both easy to use, the Weber will probably suit the beginner better than Napoleon.
