Once a chewy saline afterthought that only calorie-conscious consumers considered, grilled chicken has gotten a makeover thats at least partially due to the growing popularity and marketing buzz around antibiotic free and all natural chicken.Chick-fil-A, Carls Jr., Subway, and McDonalds have all revamped their grilled chicken in the last two years, and after testing a new grilled chicken sandwich recipe last year, Wendys has quietly taken an improved recipe of the Grilled Chicken Sandwich national.

Similar re-vamps followed suit over the years until the sandwich’s most recent transformation in 2016. Still topped with lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard, PR Newswire reports that the new-and-improved Grilled Chicken Sandwich was made different from the rest thanks to an herb-marinated chicken fillet and a new multi-grain bun. “When we set out to recreate this sandwich, our goal was a better-for-you option that delivered an unbelievable taste,” Wendy’s VP of marketing and advertising, Carl Loredo, said at the time of its launch. This is a copycat recipe for the spicy chicken sandwich from Wendys restaurant. I have never had this sandwich at Wendys but this recipe was delicious! This sandwich consists of a spicy fried chicken fillet, lettuce, tomato and mayo on a bun. The chicken is dipped into a water and hot sauce mixture and then rolled in a mixture of seasoned flour. Most of the heat in this recipe comes from the hot sauce and the cayenne pepper. The hardest part of this recipe is breading the chicken, which does require a little bit of work but these sandwiches are so good, it is well worth the effort. You can adjust the toppings on this sandwich any way you like, adding pickles may be a good option. Enjoy.
