Prepping Up The Steak For The Grill

Now that youre all geared up, lets move to the meat. It is important to make sure that the meat you intend to cook is of high quality. Otherwise, you will not be able to achieve a good steak no matter the equipment.

The rib eye seems to be the king when it comes to steaks and is clearly the most popular cut. But there are basically 8 beef prime cuts you can choose from. Most of the people tend to enjoy the T-bone, strip steak, sirloin steak and, of course, our favorite rib eye.

Once youre done deciding the type of cut youd like, decide if youd like a rare or well-done steak. A steak that has a thickness of at least 1 inch would be a perfect fit if you prefer your steaks to be rare. Youll fail to get that crusty exterior and nice red center with a steak that is thinner than an inch. For a medium-rare, you should go for a steak that is somewhere between 1.5 to 2 inches thick.

Its always a good idea to touch and feel your steak through the packaging before you buy it. This way you can find out if there is some solid marbling and avoid ending up with a steak that is too tough.

Portability: Can You Take It With You

Portability is another essential feature to watch out for, especially if you like camping and picnics. Make sure you take into consideration ease of use, electricity requirements, and size. You may need to get a power inverter, depending upon the grills electricity requirements. You also need to get a grill with heavy-duty wheels so that you can set the grill on rugged terrain if you are a fan of outdoor grilling.

How To Make Pellet Grill Steak

Step One: The biggest key to cooking a steak on the pellet grill is to preheat the grill. Crank it up to the high temperature that you can. My grill gets up to a scorching 500°F. It may take up to 15 minutes for your grill to achieve its high temperature. It is important to make sure that your grill is pretty clean before you do this. If there is a pan that catches drips, maybe clean that out and brush off the grill grates first. The last thing we want is to start a grease fire or make a steak that absorbs the flavor of burning off old grease.

Step Two: While your grill is preheating, take that time to season your steak. Once your steak is properly seasoned, place it on the grill and insert the meat thermometer probe so that you can have a constant read on the internal temperature. This is very important if you want to cook the perfect steak. When you cook steak on high heat, 60 seconds too long can turn your desired medium rare steak into a medium or even medium well steak. So use the thermometer to keep an eye on your internal temperature. I flip my steak over halfway through cooking.

Step Three: Once your steak is cooked to your desired temperature. For me, it was medium rare at 125°F. Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for two minutes. Then you can serve it whole to your guest or if you are serving family style or on top of a salad, slice and serve immediately.

A gas grill with multiple burner elements allows you to develop two distinct and different heat zones. You can simply start by firing up one side of the grill at high temperature and the other one on medium or low. Once everything is done, place the steak onto the high heat side for about a minute and a half or two. After these two minutes, gently slide it over to the middle-low side for two to three minutes so you can ensure that the interior of the steak is warmed. When it is ready to flip, place it back on the high heat zone and repeat. This cooking method will ensure that your steak will have a nice crust with a medium / medium-rare interior.
