What Are The Best Air Fryers
There are so many different air fryers out on the market these days and it is hard to pick and choose which one to buy. Every air fryer recipe on this site was tested with a Power XL air fryer. Ive owned this brand for a very long time now and love it. A lot of questions I get are from people asking me if this works with the brand of air fryer they use. Its hard to answer that because every air fryer model is different and their temperature and settings can vary. You just have to try it see if it works for you. These are two brands I own.
Mistakes To Avoid When Making Grilled Cheese
The grilled cheese sandwich is a classic. Perfectly melted and oozy cheese, sandwiched between two golden, crisp, buttery slices of bread its simple, comforting, and utterly timeless. Its one of the first things we learn to cook, and one we carry with us through the years.
But as basic as this sandwich is, there are a few hang-ups that could stand between you and the grilled cheese of your dreams. Dont let it happen to you.
How Hot Should Your Skillet Be
High heat will burn the exterior of your bread before your cheese gets a chance to melt. Moderate heat is the way to go.
Heres a timeline:
- Put your heavy skillet on the stovetop
- Turn the burner on medium-low or medium
- As the skillet heats, prep your cheese
- Butter the bread
- Lay the sandwich in the skilletby this time, the temperature is perfect
If you are grilling sandwiches one at a time, you may find you need to turn the heat down a little as you do your second sandwich. The pan seems to hit a sweet spot around sandwich number two.

Can You Use Pam To Make Grilled Cheese
Did you know you can use PAM to make a grilled cheese sandwich? You dont want to waste time slicing cheese. Set your skillet to medium and spray one side of a slice of bread with PAM cooking spray. Place the sprayed side of your bread face down in the pan and place a slice of cheese on top of it.
Grilled Hamburger Temperature Basics
First, lets lay down the ground rules. Store-bought ground beef must be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F to be considered safe to eat. Why is that, when I can eat a medium rare steak that is 30°F cooler? Because of the grinding process itself. You see, bacteria dont tunnel or even try to travel at all, and that means that pretty much all the bacteria on a steak are living on the surface. If you sear a steak at a high temperature, youll kill the bacteria on the outside, but since there arent any inside, you dont have to worry about them. But if you grind that steak up and turn it into a ribeye burger , youve taken all the bacteria living on the outside of the steak and distributed them throughout your patty. And since any piece of meat is only as cooked as its least cooked part, you need to cook the ground beef to 160°F to ensure it is safe to eat. Of course, with carryover cooking, that means youll want to pull your burgers at 155°F to achieve the best temp possible.
That being said, you may already have purchased 10 pounds of ground beef for the 4th of July, and thats fantastic. Lets talk about how to cook that the best way you can.
Note: the principles well discuss below can also be applied to home-ground burgers. Simply adjust the temperatures accordingly.

How To Make The Perfect Air Fryer Grilled Cheese
April 21, 2020 by grilledcheesesocial
As a grilled cheese expert, I can assure you that making an air fryer grilled cheese just might be the perfect way to cook this classic comfort food. The bread gets crispy, the cheese gets perfect melty, and it’s almost impossible to burn it. I highly recommend using this method because it’s essentially fail-proof!
Before I begin, I should start by asking if you realized that this grilled cheese blog will turn 10 years old next month?! How wild is that!?
What started as a hobby in grad school is now my full time job! It’s so wild to think that I’ve won two Food Network shows and even wrote a cookbook because of my love for lactose.
What’s even more exciting is discovering that an air fryer is maybe the most perfect way to cook a grilled cheese!
It’s so easy that it’s almost fail-proof!
Once you build the sandwich, put it in the air fryer basket and set the temp and timer, you don’t even have to think twice!
The bread comes out perfectly crispy, the cheese is the perfect melting temperature, and the cleanup is painless.
Trust me, after making a grilled cheese in here, you’ll probably never go back to the old pan or panini press method!
Adding Too Much Cheese
I know, right is there really such a thing? But yes, when it comes to grilled cheese, there is such a thing as too much cheese. And when it happens, your sandwich goes from being delightfully melty with little oozes of cheese, to unevenly cooked cheese spilling out the sides of the bread in greasy gobs. Its not appetizing or enjoyable.
Follow this tip: This classic sandwich is all about finding just the right balance of toasty bread and melted cheese. Stick with a generous 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup of cheese, and youll be on your way to grilled cheese perfection.

What To Serve With Grilled Cheese
If you want fries with your grilled cheese you can cook them at the same time with the grilled cheese in your air fryer basket. My favorite brand of frozen fries are Alexa or Ore Ida. I will cook frozen french fries at 350 for 12 minutes.
Chips and pickles
My recipe 5 Ingredient Tomato Blender Soup would also be good with grilled cheese.
Mayo Or Butter When And How
My cheesemonger friend got me onto using mayonnaise instead of butter.
Its always spreadable, it gives you a fabulous golden-brown crust thats not as apt to burn as butter, and it offers just a little zip.
My favorite brands are Hellmanns/Best Foods and Dukes. I havent tried Miracle Whip , but I figure its too sweet to work well here. You can also make your own mayoits actually just as easy as making a grilled cheese!
Give mayonnaise a shot! Use the same amount as you would butter.
If you are 100 percent Team Butter, I understand. You can either butter the bread directly or melt a pat of butter in the pan. I prefer to butter the bread directly, but lets say your butter is straight from the fridge and rock-hard. In that case, melt it in the pan.
One of my colleagues here at Simply Recipes swears by this approach and uses it in his Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.

The Breville Perfect Press
I have to say that I was a little skeptical about a kitchen appliance that was specifically for making griddled sandwiches. After the Breville Perfect Press, I’m totally convinced that it is worth having. It’s quicker, it melts the cheese faster and more evenly since it cooks from the top and bottom at the same time.
Frying In Extra Butter
If you like extra crispy bread and a little more grease, you can add some butter to the pan to fry the grilled cheese. Just watch for the browning of the butter solids, you dont want that to become burnt. If this happens, wipe the pan clean if needed, and in between batches when making more than two sandwiches.

How To Make Grilled Cheese In The Oven
There are actually a few different ways to make grilled cheese in the oven using a sheet pan.
Anyhow, one method calls for using two half sheet pans, with the second pan placed on top of the sandwiches to speed up the cooking time. Give it a try if you like, but I didnt find this method to be very effective.
The grilled cheese sandwiches I made using this technique were unevenly browned and took about the same amount of time to cook. Plus, I was left with additional equipment to clean up and you know how much I haattteeee doing dishes.
The oven-baked grilled cheese method I use only dirties a single half sheet pan for 6 sandwiches. For each sandwich, simply spread the outsides of two pieces of bread with softened butter, layer with the desired number of slices of cheese on the inside, and place them on the baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for about 10 minutes, flipping the sandwiches halfway through cooking.
TIP: Are you ready for me to really blow your mind? Pick up one of these XL baking sheets, and you can actually make TWELVE sandwiches at once!!!
Voila! Pull out your big batch of hot and melty grilled cheese sandwiches and serve with your favorite soup.

How To Make A Grilled Cheese Using A Panini Press

Using a panini press is one of the fastest and easiest methods for creating the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. The heat is evenly distributed from both sides, the weight from the top of the grill presses the sandwich perfectly, and most importantly there’s no flipping involved. But it’s important that you follow a few steps when using a panini press to make grilled cheese, like using the right amount of cheese and fillings to assure your sandwich doesn’t fall apart in the maker.
This is a basic recipe calling for bread, cheese, and butter or mayo, but feel free to enhance the sandwich as you like, using different types of cheese and add-ins like tomatoes and bacon. Just be sure to use a sturdy enough bread to handle the heat and weight of the panini press.

How To Cook An Air Fryer Grilled Cheese
Making an air fryer grilled cheese is even easier than making it on the stovetop!
All you need to do is to add the cheese to one slice of bread then put the other slice on top.
Butter both sides of the sandwich and put it in the air fryer.
Set the air fryer at 370F degrees for 4 minutes and press start.
When the timer goes off, flip it and put it in for 3 more minutes at 370F degrees.
After that, remove the grilled cheese from the air fryer, slice it and serve it immediately.
How To Use The Breville Perfect Press
It couldn’t be simpler and there are really only two options. On/Off and the lid setting to either have it locked for storage, crush control and open melt for open-faced sandwiches.

Extra Tips When Preparing A Grilled Cheese Sandwich
There are a few questions that people ask concerning how to improve their grilled cheese sandwich cooking experience.
There are two main things to factor in: the cheese and any other additives that can be included.
When it comes to selecting the best cheese for the job, there are five main types that stand out:
American This cheese was specially designed for grilled sandwiches. It has an amazing taste and works with almost any add-ons you bring into the mix.
Pepper Jack The Swiss nailed it with this highly-flavored cheese that will make your sandwich a delight to ravish.
Muenster Nutty, and yet it brings forth excellent texture to the sandwich. Its not as popular, which makes most people underrate it. You will be surprised at just how good it is.
Havarti This Danish cheese melts quickly, and yet it brings an exquisite taste to your sandwich when used. Its the optimal definition of a cheese that sits right on the fence between spreadable and hard cheese.
Sharp Cheddar This is the most commonly used cheese for sandwiches, and there is a reason for it. It offers variety and is versatile in how you can use it. You will not be disappointed by its results.
When it comes to the add-ons, you can spice up your grilled cheese sandwich by including other ingredients such as tomato or lettuce slices. As an accompaniment to the meal, prepare bacon slices, too, and serve your sandwich with a drink.

So, get out your skillet, grab some bread and cheese slices, put on your apron, and whip up that satisfying lunch you thought you could never make well enough.
When making electric skillet grilled cheese sandwiches, dont be afraid of getting creative. Try substituting different styles of cheese or use more than one type, or use a different bread. You can even add some slices of tomato for a more adult version.

Lower Point Grilled Cheese
For a WW friendly grilled cheese that is lower in points, you can use a light bread and reduced-fat or 2% American cheese slice. I will also use I Cant Believe Its Not Butter Spray to spritz on the bread. Under 20 sprays is 0 points. Butter spray comes in a bottle and it is next to the other butter and spreads in the grocery store. The whole sandwich would be 4 smart points and that is for all 3 plans.
Light butter or reduced-fat mayo can also be used instead of regular butter.
How To Make The Perfect Grilled Cheese
Heat your skillet on medium-low or turn on the Breville Perfect Press. Evenly spread mayonnaise on the outside of two bread slices, then place cheddar or American cheese in the middle. Cook the sandwich until it is golden on both sides and the cheese has melted, about 4 minutes. Slice the grilled cheese in half on the diagonal and enjoy.
