How To Cook Grilled Potatoes:
These are truly the best grilled potatoes ever, and you only need a few simple ingredients to prepare them:
- Potatoes
- Olive oil
- Salt, pepper and garlic powder
- Optional toppings, such as butter, sour cream, fresh chives, cheese or chopped bacon
First, wash the potatoes and prick holes in each potato with a fork.
Wrap the potatoes in damp paper towels, and microwave on high for about 6 minutes . The potatoes should be fork-tender and done cooking at this point, so you can just finish them off on the grill.
Once the potatoes are cool enough to handle, slice them in half lengthwise. Rub each potato half with olive oil and season with salt, pepper and just a pinch of garlic powder.
Place the potatoes flesh-side down on the grill until charred grill marks appear . Then flip the potatoes over and move them to the upper rack of the grill to give the skin a chance to crisp .

Tips For The Best Grilled Cheese

- Low heat it takes a little patience to make the perfect grilled cheese. Keep your heat on low to give the cheese time to fully melt while the bread gets golden and crisp. If browning too fast, turn the heat down.
- Butter generously the amount of butter may seem like a lot, but it is important for a crispy exterior.
- Use thick-sliced bread we love using Texas toast because its sliced about twice as thick as normal sandwich bread. You want bread that is about 3/4 to 1 thick, but also avoid bread that is too thick or your cheese wont melt properly. Using bread that is too thin will produce a flimsy and sometimes soggy sandwich.

Tips For The Best Grilled Shrimp:
- Use a flavorful marinade and one that includes honey like we use here for a nice char on the shrimp.
- Be sure to peel shrimp first before adding to the marinade so it can soak up the flavors.
- Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes before adding shrimp and grilling or they may burn up.
- Preferably use frozen and thawed shrimp. Not that from the meat/seafood counter as its previously frozen anyway and could have been sitting there a few days.
- Dont overcook the shrimp or they will be rubbery.

I am being forced by my mother, the maker of over 4,860 grilled cheeses, to tell you that my recomendation of lots of butter is not from the original recipe. To quote Susan: “The texture to which you refer can be best achieved with minimal butter and well seasoned iron pan. ” Lets just say that although I had grilled cheese a la Susan for every single dinner of my entire life till I left home … since then I have come up with my own style. And yes, you need to live a semi-arctic life style with plenty of sled dogs and outside chores to burn off all that fat from the butter.
Best Grilled Cheese Recipe
When done correctly, a classic grilled cheese sandwich has the perfect contrast between crunchy bread exterior and creamy melted cheese filling. Its one of those fast and easy meals to serve picky eaters. But when paired with a big bowl of tomato soup, its the ultimate adult comfort food.
To satisfy our immediate cravings, the misconception is to crank up the heat and get the cheese melted fast! However, its quite the opposite. To make sure the bread gets evenly toasted and the middle completely gooey, patience and low heat is the answer. Melted butter also helps with crispness, but not too much otherwise youll get greasy results. Ready to go over the science behind making this well-loved sandwich at home?

Dont Skimp On The Butter

You need enough butter to achieve the crackly-crisp, buttery, golden exterior that we all crave. If you dont , you can melt a pat of butter in the skillet before you add the bread.

Best Bread For Grilled Cheese:
This is what making grilled cheese is all about!
- Use whatever bread you love, but make sure it is sturdy enough to hold the cheese in.
- White bread and sourdough are the most popular, but even a thickly sliced boule will make a perfect grilled cheese!
- Dark rye and pumpernickel pair well with lighter cheeses like Gouda or Havarti
Is Halloumi Healthier Than Feta
Halloumi tends to have more calories because its fat content is higher. But these two kinds of cheese are similar insofar as they are both often packaged in a brine and associated with Greek foods. Halloumi is made from a combination of sheep’s and goat’s milk, but feta is typically made from sheep’s milk.

Use Italian Panko Or Breadcrumbs Or This Substitute
This recipe uses Italian style Panko or breadcrumbs, not plain. Whats the difference? Italian breadcrumbs are made with seasonings and salt. This gives them quite a bit of extra flavor when you use them. Italian breadcrumbs and panko are easy to find at most grocery stores. If you cant find it, heres a substitute:
- Use ½ regular panko or make homemade breadcrumbs.
- Mix in ¼ teaspoon kosher salt. Because youre already adding Italian-style seasonings to the zucchini, you wont lose much without the seasonings in the breadcrumbs.
Can You Cook Asparagus On The Grill
Yes, you can cook asparagus on the grill. With the traditional method of grilling, you need to look for thick asparagus stalks so that they wont fall through the grates of the grill. With this foil packet method, you can use any size asparagus you like, and theres no risk of losing the stalks in the fire!

Finish Your Grilled Cheese With A Crispy Cheesy Outer Crust
This is a trick that my grandmother Mimi used to pull off. Maybe you have encountered it at a restaurant and wondered how it works. It can be a little tricky, depending on how non-stick your pan is. If you have a well-seasoned cast iron skillet, its worth a shot.
Simply sprinkle some additional grated cheese over your buttery skillet, and flip the hot sandwich over on top of it. Listen, and once the cheese has stopped sizzling, wait a few more moments longer before flipping it back over. Ta da.
Non-stick skillet notes: I have always recommended using cast iron or stainless steel skillets when possible, since theyre non-toxic. When I worked on this post, Id been testing out a non-stick ceramic skillet from Green Pan. While it was non-stick enough to successfully make these sandwiches, Im no longer recommending this pan. See the section on ceramic non-stick pans over here.

Cook Your Grilled Cheese In The Oven Instead Of In A Pan
If you want your grilled cheese to be uniformly crispy and you dont want to stand at the stove waiting for each side to cook perfectly, cook it in the oven instead!
Its even easier and I think it results in a way better sandwich.
The right temperature will depend on the type of bread youre using, how much cheese youre using, and how hot your oven is!
I usually use plain white bread for grilled cheese and I bake my grilled cheese at 450F for about 4-5 minutes on each side.
I usually start checking it after three minutes and make sure its not getting too crispy. Once it looks how I want it, I flip it over and cook for about the same amount of other time!
So easy!
If you havent tried making it in the oven before, play around with the temperature/time a bit until you find out what works for you! It might also be different for you depending on how cooked you want your sandwich to besome like it crispy and some prefer it on the softer side!
Now lets get to the good stuff

You Bought Fresh Shrimp
The Spruce
Sure, if youre buying live shrimpfrom a tank or off a boat, then those are indeed fresh and better than frozen. But the shrimp sitting atop a pile of ice in the seafood case are not, in fact, truly fresh. Theyve been previously frozen and have now been thawed for who knows how long. For best results, buy IQF shrimp in the shell and defrost them yourself.
This goes double for whole shrimp . The heads contain an enzyme that can quickly turn the flesh mushy if not separated from the body immediately after harvesting.

How To Make Shrimp Into Dinner
While I could probably be perfectly happy with a bowl of shrimp and nothing else, most of the time shrimp needs some accompaniment, usually carbs, to make it a meal. Let me introduce you to Pesto Shrimp Pasta an amazing combo of pesto, fettuccini white wine, and Italian seasoning. I am also partial to using red wine when cooking shrimp, as I did in this Garlic Shrimp Pasta. Because shrimp is used in almost every world cuisine, you can add it to pretty much anything! Serve shrimp over rice or orzo, eat it over a bed of greens, or with some roasted vegetables on the side. Whats your favorite way to have shrimp for dinner?
