A To Z List Of Pellet Grill/smoker Brands

Burner Ignition – Coyote Grills and Skills Quick Tips

Back in 2007 when I first become aware of pellet grills and smokers the only brand I was really aware of was Traeger. Traeger is really where this whole concept of cooking with pellets started in the 1980s. It was a slow burner but since the 2010s is really when pellet grills and smokers started to get mainstream awareness, discussed alongside gas and charcoal grills. There are now over 30 pellet grill/smoker brands that Im aware of, and the link above goes to my A to Z list of brands article.

Now, you may already be aware of a few of the other brands such as Pit Boss, Camp Chef, Z Grills and Im sure you are aware of Weber, though you may not have known they have entered the pellet grill game. However, they are now many, many more brands to look into. Some may be what are commonly referred to as Traeger clones, but many others are offering their own unique designs and features.

What Makes Coyote So Great

There are certain things about the Coyote brand grills that you can expect for every single grill, regardless of what series it falls into. Yes, the S-Series has some extra bells and whistles but it doesnt mean that both series arent great options!

No matter what Coyote grill you look at or choose to purchase, here is what you can expect.

Using Coyote Gas Grills

Coyote C

After installing and leak-testing your Coyote C-Series 28-Inch Built-In Gas Grill, ensuring each burner tube is placed over each valve adequately, and of course, hooking up and turning on your propane , firing up Coyote built grills is simple.

Just press and turn the knob associated with the burner you wish to light, turning it to high. Once you see the spark, your grill is ready to go after you let it heat up and turn the knob to the appropriate temperature.

The quick automatic ignition of Coyote gas grills makes getting to the actual cooking even faster. After youre finished cooking, simply turn the knob to the off position.

As for the cleaning process, Coyote suggests after the grill has cooled down to use warm water or a degreaser to remove debris from your BBQ then drying with a clean towel to prevent discoloration after washing.

Coyote also recommends polishing the outside of your grill occasionally with a third-party polish applied with a paper towel.

If youre skipping the cleaning process, wait for the Coyote BBQ to cool down completely before putting on grill cover.

Starting A Gas Grill Manually

  • 1Open the lid of your grill and hook up its gas, if necessary. With the lid closed, potentially dangerous explosive gas wont have a chance to build up. Hook up your gas by attaching the gas line to the gas output, like a tank, and the input, like a connector on the back or side of the grill.
  • Gas inputs and outputs are usually preceded or followed by a shutoff valve and are frequently shaped like spigots.XResearch source
  • 2Open the valve for the gas supply. On the connector thats linking your gas supply to your grill there should be a shutoff valve. Open this fully to supply gas to your grill. Wait a few minutes after opening the valve to give the gas enough time to fill the line.XResearch source
  • 3Turn on and ignite the gas. Place a match in the lighting hole. This should be a small hole located on the grills side. Open the regulator for the burner closest to the lighting hole fully. Light the first match already in the lighting hole with a second match. The turned on burner should light.
  • After your first burner lights, its a simple matter to turn on the regulator knobs for the other burners. They should light off the flame already burning in your grill.
  • Some models of grill may not have lighting holes or might have poorly designed ones. In this case, stand as far from the grill as you can and use a long stick match to light the grill.XResearch source

  • You can even grill vegetables like zucchini, corn, or eggplant on the grill. Spread them in a grill basket if you don’t want smaller pieces to fall through the grates.

  • 1Open the lid of your grill. Keeping your lid closed while lighting can cause gas fumes to build up. This can create an exploding hazard. If the gas has been turned on with the lid closed, turn off the gas and open the lid. Wait a few minutes for the gas to dissipate, then start the process over.XResearch source
  • 2Hook up gas to your grill, if necessary. In most cases, a propane tank is used to supply your grill with gas. Propane tanks are usually stored beneath, behind, or to the side of the grill. Attach the gas line firmly to the propane tank and the gas intake for your grill.XResearch source
  • Depending on your grill, the hookup for your gas may vary. When in doubt, follow the usage instructions. If you dont have these, look up a digital manual with a keyword search for your grill online.
  • Some grills may be connected by a direct line to the natural gas supplied to your home. This kind of gas supply acts the same as a tank, but is stationary.
  • Smaller tabletop grills oftentimes have small canisters of gas which are screwed into the valve of the grill before it can be ignited.
  • 3Turn on the gas. This is usually done by turning a circular shaped valve on top of the propane tank. Some grills may have a secondary valve on the grill that you need to open for it to receive gas. Open the valve fully, then wait about a minute for the gas to move through the line to the grill.XResearch source

A To Z List Of The Best Bbq Wood Pellets

A pellet grill/smoker is only as good as the BBQ pellets you put into it. The type/quality of the BBQ wood pellets you use will impact temperature performance and smoke flavour. There are many pellet flavours including Apple, Hickory, Mapel, Oak and Walnut to name but a few. However, some brands are hardwood blended pellets whereas others are 100% single wood species.

In this article, I provide details on over 20 brands of BBQ wood pellets, their range of flavours, whether they are 100% single wood species or hardwood blended pellets, their typical price and where they are available. I also provide tips on how to get the best deal when buying BBQ wood pellets and how to test pellet quality. Finally, I discuss the new kid on the block, charcoal pellets and their special attributes compared to all other hardwood BBQ pellets.

    Coyote Propane Portable Gas Grill

Coyotes portable grill is small and perfect for tailgating, camping, or whatever else you may need it for. Its small enough to make it easy to take places and large enough to cook a decent amount in one go. It has about 200 square inches of cooking space.

This grill also includes a really nice signature grate with the signature and a logo imprinted into it so you get a little extra oomph to your package. This is a heavy-duty grill that was made with 316 marine grade steel. It can handle any weather or environment you pit it against.

The grill has 20,000 BTUs, which is pretty substantial for the cooking space. It gets super-hot and has a built-in thermometer as well as a dial for adjusting the heat. You even get a grill cover with your package.

This is a 4.5-star rated grill in all areas. It is a bit heavier at 53 pounds, but consider the quality of the materials that you are getting. We also noticed that for a portable grill this doesnt have any of the locking mechanisms for portability. You CAN use a portable or full-sized propane tank.

    Pros:

    • 200 square inches of cooking space
    • Compatible with mini or full-size propane
    • Removable drip tray
    • Portable and easy to take on the go

    Cons:

    • No latches to lock the lid for portability but it is heavy enough to stay in place

Cook With Gas Or Charcoal With Coyote C Series Grills

Charcoal Tray – Coyote Grills and Skills Quick Tips

When you buy the Coyote Charcoal Tray as a separate add-on, you can also grill with charcoal whenever the mood strikes you.

It all comes down to a grillers cooking preference and flavor palate. Some enjoy the smokier flavors of charcoal. However, others like that cooking with gas isnt as messy.

Question 3 Of : Download Article

  • 1Flip the food if you want to make grill marks on both sidesif not, skip it. You’re not cooking food over direct flame in a pellet grill, so you don’t have turn the food to make it cook evenly. However, if you want your steak or burgers to have those great grill marks on both sides, use tongs to flip them over halfway through the cooking time.
  • Avoid opening up the pellet grill frequently or it will lose heat and the temperature in the grill will drop.
  • Cooking Area And Functionality

The freestanding/built-in products from each brand of the same size are identical in their features. Therefore, to compare cooking areas we are looking at Memphis 28& 39 models and Coyote 28& 36 models. Those particular numbers refer to the diameter of the appliance, now lets look at their total provided cooking area in square inches.

Memphis 28 models provide 562 sq.in at the cooking grate with the 39 version offering 844 sq.in. Coyote by comparison on the 28 model provides 450 sq.in at the main cooking grate and include an upper rack with 159 sq.in for a total of 609 sq.in. The Coyote 36 model provides 594 sq.in at the main cooking grate with an upper rack providing an additional 214 sq.in for a total of 808 sq.in. Hence, on the smaller 28 models Memphis is offering the larger grilling area, and unsurprisingly on the larger models, the physically larger Memphis 39 model is offering the largest cooking grate.

Now, additional cooking racks can be used on the Memphis grills above the cooking grate to provide additional cooking area. However, they are not included as standard and have to be purchased separately. As the Memphis grills are already more expensive, having to pay etc for the upper cooking racks is not ideal.

I think the Coyote 28 Built-in unit for under $2,500 is providing excellent value on cooking area for a full-stainless steel pellet grill: Image BBQGuys.com
