How Do You Make A Burger Patty

You dont have to invest in buying an already made patty in making your home-cooked burger. Making your burger patty is relatively easy all you need is the right meat and other assortments. To make a burger patty, do the following:

  • Gently take out a small handful of ground meat and hold on your hands.
  • Divide the ground into exact proportions and pack them in a loose ball of meat .
  • Drop this loose ball of ground meat 10-12 inches on a clean surface, flip it, and drop on the other side.
  • Use your hands to gently flatten the balls to 4-inch wide and 3/4 inch thick patties.
  • Make an indentation on the patty .
  • Once you are done, sprinkle the sides with salt and pepper, heat the patty on a grill to your desired temperature.

Use A Meat Thermometer

How could we know the inside temperature? Or how do you know your meat is well-done or not?

Most of us usually cut the meat to see the inside. However, when you cut, the meat will not be in a full piece, making it difficult to position them inside the bread.

On the other hand, cutting to see inside the meat is not a good idea. Your hands may touch the grill if youre careless. Besides, cutting will make the juiciness of the meat leak out, making the final product dry.

To avoid all the risks above, we recommend using a meat thermometer. The ideal temperature to have the well-done meat is about 160°F.

How To Cook Hamburgers On a Traeger without Flipping Them

The size of a burger patty solely depends on the type of burger you want to make. Speaking of burgers, there are three types, which are Classic, Smashed, and Stuffed.

Each of them has a particular size, which contributes to its overall taste. For Classic burgers, flatten out the patties to be 4-inch wide and ¾-inch thick. A smashed burger will need a perfect size for a patty, around 2 ½ -inch thick.

Theres a need to use your thumb in making an indentation on the patties before cooking. This allows such patty to keep its shape once it goes through the cooking process.

However you choose to season, wait until just before you plan to throw those bad boys on the grill. If you want that tender, juice-down-your-chin bite, restrain your salt and pepper shaker until just before you toss them on the grill.

This allows the rub time to adhere to the meat without starting to dry out. Add any additional rubs or seasoning according to taste.

After seasoning, its time to get in the thick of it. Dont overwork your burger. For a tender and moist burger, we advise you dont over pack your meat. Using wet hands, gently form the meat into 1 ½-inch patties but dont overwork it. This isnt Play-Doh, and the more you handle and squash the meat, the tougher it will be.

As soon as your hamburger patties are holding together, stop what youre doing. No more. Thats it. Youre done.

Best Pellets To Use For Hamburgers

At the time of this writing, we only have the Apple and Competition hardwood pellets available to use.

Weve already used the grill to cook a Boston butt, ribeyes, hamburgers, steaks, and chicken drumettes and have cooked everything with the competition blend.

When we cooked the Boston butt, we experimented with the Apple wood chips, but really couldnt tell a difference in the flavor.

Now, we prefer to use the Competition blend because it works great for all types of meat and vegetables.
