Weber has unveiled four Smart Grill models: Genesis II EX-315, Genesis II EX-335, Genesis II SX-335 and Spirit SX-315. Each model has different features separating them from each other and the grills in their respective class line.
All of the Smart Grills come in LP and natural gas options. The controller on all of these Smart Grills is warrantied for 3 years.

The Genesis II Smart Grill SX-335 comes with the most features of all the Smart Grills. Aside from the stainless steel lid and cabinet doors, this grill comes with 7mm Stainless Steel Cooking Grates. All the other Smart Grills will have porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grates.While there are some consumers that do prefer the cast-iron grates, we recommend the Weber Grills that come with stainless grates as they hold up and clean up better over time. The Weber Genesis II E-310 gas grill is also an exceptional performer, and it offers several clever, life-improving design elements that we love. The grates are about 20 percent bigger, too, but overall the Genesis II takes up barely more area than the Spirit II, so theres no appreciable trade-off between the two if your patio space is tight. Essentially, the decision comes down to how youll use your grill: If you often cook for crowds, the Genesis II is worth the extra couple hundred dollars.
Performance-wise, we found the two Weber models nearly identical, with the Spirit just slightly edging the Genesis II on burger-searing performance. And that gap would probably close with a bit more time to learn the Genesis IIs finer points. In terms of materials, the two are almost twins, offering heavy cast-aluminum fireboxes and porcelain-coated cast-iron grates. The Genesis II, however, features a frame made of welded rails, while the Spirit II is made of folded metal . Theyre both sturdy enough, but the Genesis II is appreciably stiffer and more solid-feeling. And we like that it has casters: Its easier to swivel into a corner for storage than the casterless Spirit.
Moving the tank to the outside also frees up space below the grill, which Weber fills with a generous and sturdy storage shelf. Thats a nice feature; you can keep trays, grill tools, or even a small cooler there.

What Is Weber’s Smart Grill Hub And Why Is It Useful
Weber’s Smart Grilling Hub is a connectivity accessory that mounts to the side of your grill. The way to “connect” the accessory piece is by downloading the Smart Grilling Hub app on your phone. The app is Bluetooth connected and will send alerts to your phone, such as temperature readings for four different meat types.
This includes alarming you when it reaches a minimum or maximum temperature. This allows you to know when your food is done cooking without cutting into the meat, checking the color, or standing by the grill.
All this functionality is now built into the Smart grills.
How Does Webers Smart Grill Work
The controller on the Weber Smart Grills is the same technology as the Weber Connect Smart Grilling Hub. It connects to your home WiFi network or can pair with your mobile phone or tablet via Bluetooth.
Weber Genesis II Smart Grills Controller
Webers Smart Grills read and relay the ambient temperature of the grill to the app on your device or the on-grill shelf screen. The grill has an ambient probe built in at the grate level. It is centrally located in the rear of the grill.

Weber revamped its iconic Genesis grill line this year, rolling out eight new grills that step up in size, features, and price, from two-burner to six-burner. They range in price from $500 to $2,000. To see whether the upgrades are indeed improvements, Consumer Reports bought all of these grills for testing.
What’s Different? The first thing youll notice is that the Weber Genesis II grills arent as blocky as their predecessors: They have rounder hoods and a more streamlined appearance.
The propane tank has been relocated to the right side of the grill, making it easier to change, and two of the four casters have been replaced by wheels.
Under the hood and beneath the grates, the burners ports are bigger and rounder, replacing the old slits, and the burners are tapered. Weber says the tapered shape ensures that the heat is evenly distributed across the cooking surface. Our tests found that it is.
For $200 more, you get a third burner and a larger cooking area, bumping the Weber Genesis II E-310, $700, into our midsized category. Grills in this group can fit 18 to 28 burgers. Performance was similar to the E-210, and indirect cooking was even better.
How Do You Sear A Weber Grill
Once the grill has been pre-heated its time to light the Sear Station. For Summit models, turn the outer burners to off or to low, and then light the Sear Station. For Genesis models, turn the right burner to off or low, and then light the Sear Station. Now its time to put the food to be seared onto the Sear Station.

First, any grill can be a Smart grill using the Weber iGrill App. The iGrill uses wireless meat probes to sense the inside temperature of your food.
Weber was at the forefront of Smart technology, and it is “Smart.”
You can receive alerts to flip that burger or remove the food from your grill right off your phone.
Weber has recipes and other grilling ideas as well.
For the Smart grills, the iGrill is built-in, and you can see the temperature right on the grill and the app.
How To Interpret Weber Grill Codes
You shop online or in a store and see a row of similar Weber Genesis grills with different model numbers.
You almost need a Rosetta Stone or decoder ring to understand the Weber model numbers, so the following is an easy table to crack the code.
If a model begins with E – you have a porcelain enamel hood and stainless Flavorizer Bars.
If the model begins with an S, then the grill has a stainless body, Flavorizer Bars, and stainless grates instead of porcelain. Stainless wears better than porcelain.
The number, such as 3 or 4, indicates the burners on the grill. For Genesis II series grills, you can choose between 3 or 4 burners.
The exception to the ruling is the SE model. It is a special edition for specific dealers.
SE features stainless grates with colored hoods and a handle light and 9 MM grates as opposed to the 7 MM grates of the S models.
Thicker grates hold heat better and theoretically cook faster.
For 2021, the colors are Ocean Blue, Crimson, Copper, and Smoke.
Unlike last year, Genesis is the only Weber with color choices.
