Meet The Weber Flavorizer Bars
Most of Webers grills include an impressive feature that they call Flavorizer bars, which serve a dual function thats critical for your safety, grilling experience and overall flavor of your food. These bars lay underneath the cooking grate, between the grate and the burners, and catch excess oil or grease that drips from the food you cook. Not only does this keep the oil or grease from falling into the flames and igniting, which could be a hazard, but the oil evaporates back up into your cooking ingredients, injecting them with even more flavor.
The Flavorizer bars are one of our favorite features of Weber grills, and theyre part of what sets apart Weber grills from other products and manufacturers.
Chicken And Indirect Medium Heat
Next, we tested each grill’s medium heat cooking capability by roasting whole chickens. The trick here is to keep the grills at a hot enough temperature to cook a chicken for upward of two hours.;
For our tests, each grill gets a full chimney of lit charcoal and a 6-pound chicken opposite the coals for indirect heat.;
Each grill got a chimney of hot charcoal.;
Cooking over charcoal takes longer than cooking with a gas grill, and we typically need to add more fuel during cooking to keep our grills above 300 F for the full duration. Our favorite bird from this batch was the one cooked on the Weber, though it was a tough call. The bird cooked on the Nexgrill cart-style grill came in right behind, a close second in terms of flavor and texture.
We cooked chicken over indirect heat until it reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees.;
The difference between the two was largely in the crispiness of the skin, with the Weber’s results being superior. Meat from the Nexgrill was delicious, with just a bit more flavor than the Weber. Between them, I’d say it largely depends on your budget and what style of grill you prefer for other meats like burgers or steak. Weber certainly had the superior sear in that category.;
What To Take Into Consideration
Gas grills come in all shapes and sizes , which means that picking one out can get overwhelming very quickly. Something that is vital to remember when shopping for one: Just because its the most, doesnt mean its the best . In other words, if you have a tiny backyard and prefer the concept of minimalism, the super expensive, gigantic, five-burner grill isnt really going to fit your vibe. It might be for someone else, but were shopping for you, remember?
Now that we got that lesson out of the way, there are two major points youll want to get figured out before purchasing your very own gas grill:
Size: Not just the amount of physical space it takes up , but also take note of the amount of burners you need. How much food do you normally cook at once? Are you regularly feeding a whole family? The more food, the more burners and surface area youll want.
Versatility and extra features: This can range anywhere from temperature regulation, to smart features, to warming racks, to external side burners, to equipment storage, and more. Itll all come down to what you see as necessary, and what you see as superfluous.
Get those priorities in check, and youve already done most of the work.

A To Z List Of Pellet Grill/smoker Brands
Back in 2007 when I first become aware of pellet grills and smokers the only brand I was really aware of was Traeger. Traeger is really where this whole concept of cooking with pellets started in the 1980s. It was a slow burner but since the 2010s is really when pellet grills and smokers started to get mainstream awareness, discussed alongside gas and charcoal grills. There are now over 30 pellet grill/smoker brands that Im aware of, and the link above goes to my A to Z list of brands article.
Now, you may already be aware of a few of the other brands such as Pit Boss, Camp Chef, Z Grills and Im sure you are aware of Weber, though you may not have known they have entered the pellet grill game. However, they are now many, many more brands to look into. Some may be what are commonly referred to as Traeger clones, but many others are offering their own unique designs and features.
Are Weber Grills Worth The Extra Money
The quick answer is that almost all Weber grills are worth the money. The value comes from the long term cost of ownership combined with amazing grilling performance. When Weber grills are compared directly against other brands of similar quality it becomes clear that the price of a Weber grill is very reasonable.

The Weber Spirit Ii E
Pros: Great price for the quality, excellent ignition system, heats quickly and evenly, 10-year warranty on all parts
Cons: Awkward to move because there are no handles
What makes the Weber Spirit II E-310 LP Gas Grill, an ostensibly simple grill, so special? It’s not the 529 square inches of ample cooking space for a relatively small grill. Nor is it the multiple tool hooks on which you can hang tongs, a spatula, a fork, and more. And it’s not even the durable porcelain-coated cast-iron cooking grates.
What stands out about this Weber gas grill is the superbly designed and crafted heating system, which ensures even cooking across the entirety of the grill service. The reliable ignition system can fire up one, two, or all three of the 10,000 Btu burners with just the turn of a dial and the press of a button. Thirty thousand Btu total might not seem like a lot, but this is a smaller grill box and it’s really all you need. These burners lie beneath “Flavorizer Bars” that spread the heat evenly, and above a grease management system that catches and collects drips and spatters, so cleaning the interior of the grill is blissfully easy.
A 10-year warranty on;all;parts should also give you plenty of confidence in the Weber Spirit II E-310 LP Gas Grill.;

Summer is barbecue season, and now that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said fully vaccinated individuals and, depending on the situation, some unvaccinated individuals dont have to wear masks outdoors, family and friends are looking forward to gathering in person. This means the focus is on grills yet again, similar to the steady and regular increase in interest we saw last summer around grilling accessories.
If you plan on spending quality time grilling this summer, it might be the right time to consider upgrading your wares or investing in a new model. From charcoal to wood and pellet grills, it can be daunting to know which direction to go. But gas grills are fairly common and could be an option for your outdoor space. Its estimated that 62 percent of grill owners have a grill thats fueled by gas, said Matt Moore, author of last years Serial Griller.

Shoppingthe Best Charcoal For Grilling
Gas grills dominate the backyard barbecues game not only because they can be portable and easier to operate with the click of a switch, though. More than anything cleanup is a breeze, said Dave Anderson, founder of Famous Daves. Plus, with a charcoal grill, temperatures can fluctuate like this years stock market. You think youve found the right temperature only, within minutes, your coals have died down.
You also dont have to worry about a gust of wind or playing a temperature guessing game when grilling with propane its a constant heat source. And firing up hot, glowing charcoal briquettes to add to the grill is not only dangerous but its a royal pain, added Anderson. Whereas once you light a gas grill, you can cook all day at the temperature you want. Gas grills are just so easy to manage consistent heating.

Best Upgrade: Napoleon Prestige 500 Propane Gas Grill With Infrared Burners
I wanted to include something on the list that was leaps and bounds ahead of even the high-end Weber grills. This Napoleon Prestige propane grill truly sets a new standard on what a grill can be. Four heavy-duty burners allow your food to cook over direct/indirect heat, while a sizzle zone side burner can heat up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit in 30 seconds flat. Imagine the kind of sear youd get on your steak from that kind of heat! Additionally, a rear-burner/rotisserie kit allows an enterprising grill artist to cook multiple chickens at once. Theres just so much this grill can do.
This model is definitely a luxury grill constructed of high-quality material. This is further supported by the very high price tag. But for folks that can afford a high-end grill experience, Napoleon is unparalleled.
Do Weber Grills Rust Out
You can safely leave your grill on the patio all year round, as it is built to withstand all normal weather conditions. This is why we confidently offer a rust and enamel guarantee on our grills. Please note that surface rust can be removed and is therefore not covered by Webers warranty program.

Grill Grates Lids And Other Materials
The two most common materials used for grates are stainless steel and cast iron. Although stainless steel is rust-resistant , they dont conduct heat as well as cast iron. You can sear steak better on a cast iron grate, but one caveat is that you have to spend more time caring for it or else it will rust, Phan said. If you cook a lot of steaks, go with cast iron, but if you cook a lot of burgers, brats and seafood, stainless steel is a better choice.
High-quality gas grills are made from durable stainless steel but not all stainless steel is created equal. Stainless steel is an alloy that comes in different numerical grades, depending on its composition, which impacts its overall strength, heat durability and rust resistance. Among the different grades, Phan said 304 and 430 stainless steel are most common. Grade 304 is much better than 430 and that comes with a higher price tag, he explained. That said, if you take care of your 430 grill, it will probably last a bit longer.
Not all gas grill models come with a lid. Phan emphasized its importance for backyard cooks, though. With a lid, you can turn your grill into an oven, meaning that you can cook food with convection heat, he says. It will cook your food more evenly than conduction and radiant heat.
