What Year Is My Weber Grill

Upgrade Grill Pick: Weber Genesis Ii E

CHICAGO GRILLER: 2021 YEAR IN REVIEW | Weber Q Grilling Channel

*At the time of publishing, the price was $780.

The Weber Genesis II E-310 gas grill is also an exceptional performer, and it offers several clever, life-improving design elements that we love. The grates are about 20 percent bigger, too, but overall the Genesis II takes up barely more area than the Spirit II, so theres no appreciable trade-off between the two if your patio space is tight. Essentially, the decision comes down to how youll use your grill: If you often cook for crowds, the Genesis II is worth the extra couple hundred dollars.

Performance-wise, we found the two Weber models nearly identical, with the Spirit just slightly edging the Genesis II on burger-searing performance. And that gap would probably close with a bit more time to learn the Genesis IIs finer points. In terms of materials, the two are almost twins, offering heavy cast-aluminum fireboxes and porcelain-coated cast-iron grates. The Genesis II, however, features a frame made of welded rails, while the Spirit II is made of folded metal . Theyre both sturdy enough, but the Genesis II is appreciably stiffer and more solid-feeling. And we like that it has casters: Its easier to swivel into a corner for storage than the casterless Spirit.

Moving the tank to the outside also frees up space below the grill, which Weber fills with a generous and sturdy storage shelf. Thats a nice feature you can keep trays, grill tools, or even a small cooler there.

Beginning in 2013, a serial number was added just above the two-letter date code. As of 2015, Weber has switched over to these individualized serial numbers that begin with a two letter prefix. 2014 was the last year for the two-letter code system. See below.CN####### = 2013*

*: Used in conjunction with date codes AT and AH respectively.

**: Used exclusively. There is no two letter only date code in 2015.

: There are no true D code only kettles or WSMs known to exist. There are examples of 1981 C code Webers that have been seen with a small D stamped near or on the opposite side of the C stamp. These examples are believed to be the actual 1982 kettles and WSMs.

The Least Durable Weber Grill Parts

Some parts of Weber grills are known to be more prone to damage:

    • Igniter: According to the Consumers Report from 2018, igniters can last an average of four years . With at least 90% of grills having electric igniters, any form of damage to the wires can affect the whole ignition system.
    • Burner Tubes: Burner tubes last for four years or less due to easy clogging. If they fail to light, this can result in uneven cooking.
    • Burner Cover: Burner covers last anywhere from two to five years. With uncontrolled flare-ups that happen time and again during grilling, the burner covers tend to get damaged easily.

Regular proper cleaning and regular checks might prolong the lifespan of your least durable Weber grill components and maintain them in excellent condition for an extended period.

    Risks To A Weber Grill

Of course, the lifespan of any grill depends to a large degree on how often it is used. Some people use a grill only a few times a year, for special occasions. Others grill much more often, and for more people. This accounts for a wide range of different wear-and-tear on a grill, but there are a lot of other factors that can damage a grill and shorten its lifespan.

    Weather

While Weber grills are durable and designed to live outdoors, weather can take a toll on a grill. Stainless steel is rust-resistant, but rain can shorten the life span of a grill over time, especially if a wet grill repeatedly freezes and thaws. If a grill has any grease or food residue, they can trap moisture and lead to corrosion.

    Pests

A dirty grill can have grease and food residue that attracts pests. Rodents, in particular, are known to make homes in unused grills, and can cause damage. In addition, grill covers with soft felt or cotton linings are occasionally attractive to birds, who pull at the lining for nesting material.

    Mold and Mildew

The bits of food and grease inside a dirty grill are also a great environment for mold, and any damp space with little air circulation can invite mildew. Mold and mildew arent usually harmful outdoors, when there is less chance of breathing the spores, but they certainly arent appetizing.

    The Downside To Outsourcing

Weber Genesis gas grill, looking new after 10 years : BuyItForLife

While we understand the reasons for outsourcing, the practice has some issues that bear mentioning.

For one thing, the manufacturing standards are often lower due to poor quality control. That means that Webers products might suffer as a result. The company denies that this is a problem for them, particularly since the design process still takes place at corporate headquarters. Still, its an important point for buyers to keep in mind.

On the subject of low standards: We mentioned the fact that the labor laws in the global south are not as stringent as the ones in the US. As a result, the workers may be treated unfairly or even cruelly, depending on the circumstances. This is a human rights issue thats enough to turn many buyers off completely.

Finally, consider the environmental implications. When a company like Weber manufactures its products on foreign shores, it relies on freighters and other forms of mass transportation. This uses up a great deal of energy, which could be harmful to the planet.

What Is Weber Genesis Special Edition

Genesis II SE grills offer a step-up from the standard E-Series grills that you see at the Home Depot and Lowes. These grills include a handle light and upgraded 9mm stainless steel cooking grates which perform better and last a lot longer than the porcelain-enameled cast-iron on the E-Series grills.

Why Quality Is Declining In Weber Grills

Theres no question that Weber makes high-quality grills, but there have been some complaints about the quality recently. Some people are saying that Weber is starting to cut corners and that their products are not as good as they used to be.

While its hard to say for sure whether or not this is true, its definitely something to consider before purchasing a Weber grill. If youre looking for a high-quality grill that will last for years, you may want to consider a different brand.

The bottom line is that Weber grills are expensive but they offer a lot in return. With a wide range of options, superior construction, and top-notch customer service, Weber is the clear choice for anyone who wants the best grilled food possible. So, if youre looking for a top-of-the-line grill, Weber is the obvious choice.

The NEW Weber Genesis SL-435 Grill Review

    Date Code: B

I was driving past my neighbors place in Wyocena, WI on Memorial Day weekend 2006 while they were having a garage sale. I saw what I thought for sure was a WSM sitting in his driveway. It was a little rusty, the access door and legs anyway, but appeared to be in excellent condition otherwise.

My neighbor had a price tag on it of $20.00. He said, Dont buy that because then youll have to cook! I told him I used my Brinkmann to cook all the time. Since I am his neighbor, he said $10.00 would take it away. I couldnt pass up that deal.

So I came back with my truck, loaded it up, took it home and gave it a good cleaning. All of the porcelain was in really good shape. The grates were all rusty, but a wire brush took care of that. Since it did not have a thermometer, I searched the Web for retrofit ideas, which is how I happened on your site and learned about the date codes.

Clark cleaned up the old steel legs as best he could, but took a wire brush to the steel access door and sprayed it with black barbecue paint to make it look better.

Grill Wont Maintain Stable Temps In Cold Weather

When the temperature outside dips below 50 degrees, the propane may be taking too long to transform into vapor. This can restrict the gas flow, which means that the grill wont be able to hold its heat long enough to cook your ingredients.

Check the outside of the LP tank. Is it coated in frost or ice? If so, it will need to be disconnected and replaced with a new one.

    Is Weber Worth The Money

The quick answer is that almost all Weber grills are worth the money. The value comes from the long term cost of ownership combined with amazing grilling performance. When Weber grills are compared directly against other brands of similar quality it becomes clear that the price of a Weber grill is very reasonable.

Can I Use Propane And Natural Gas Interchangeably On My Gas Grill

No, you are not allowed to use propane in a gas grill made for natural gas. To start, doing that exposes you to safety dangers. Moreover, for Weber grills using a gas different from the one stipulated may result to the warrant being revoked in case the gas grill gets damaged. Note that there is a high possibility that the grill gets spoilt.

How To Make A Weber Grill Last Longer

My first Weber propane grill. Genesis II. This grill is solid ...

    Keep it Clean

As you can tell, keeping a grill clean is one of the most important factors in preventing problems and prolonging its life span. Many Webers have a OneTouch cleaning system that makes cleaning even easier. The OneTouch system moves the vents back and forth, sweeping ash into the removable ash bucket for you. Keeping the inside of your grill free of grease and ash helps it cook more efficiently, and, of course, reduces the risk of fire and flare-ups.

Clean the exterior of a grill with a mild glass cleaner, using a sponge to wipe it clean. If necessary, use a scouring pad to remove excess dirt. Clean the inside of the lid with a scrubbing brush and warm soapy water.

Clean the cooking grate with a steel brush and more warm soapy water. If your grill has a OneTouch cleaning system, its easy to clean out ash, grease, and debris after every use.

While you can effectively clean your grill with mild glass cleaner, warm soapy water, a sponge, a scrubbing brush, and a soft microfiber cloth, Weber does also sell cleaning kits to make it easier.

    Keep it Covered

Some Weber grill models come with a cover. If your model doesnt have one, it needs to be purchased separately. Always purchase a cover designed for your specific grill model, so that it fits correctly.
