If youre already a fan of cast iron cooking, youll be pleased to know that you can sauté veggies with cast iron pans. Add a few tablespoons of butter, toss in the veggies, and let them sauté until they reach your preferred tenderness.

Is It Healthy To Grill Vegetables

Yes. Grilled vegetables are healthy options you can always add to diversify your daily menu.

Our experts understand your concern since subjecting vegetables to unnecessary grilling does reduce some of the nutritional value.

Just avoid grilling them to a crisp. Not only are charred veggies unhealthy and possibly carcinogenic, but they’re distasteful as well.

How To Clean A Stove Top Grill Pan

First of all, do not put your pan in the dishwasher because it should be hand washed.

For grill pans with a non-stick coating, you can use warm water and mild dish soap to clean them. There is no need to use an abrasive sponge. You dont want to risk scratching the finish on the pan.

Its different with a cast iron grill pan. I like to put some water into the ban and let it come to a boil. That hot water will help loosen any food particles. Then, I turn off the heat and let the water cool off a little. As necessary, I take a silicone spatula and push off any stubborn food particles.

After that, let your cast iron grill pan cool off more before pouring out the water and rinsing it with hot water. Dry off the pan with a towel.

Also, you may need to season a cast iron pan from time to time.

How To Make The Best Grilled Vegetables

Want to make perfectly charred, super flavorful grilled vegetables? Check out these tips before you fire up the grill:

  • Cut everything to a similar size to ensure even cooking. Plus, youll be able to get multiple vegetables into each bite!
  • Use metal skewers. Wood skewers burn easily on the grill!
  • Flip halfway. This one may seem obvious, but its important. Good grilled vegetables have a little char on all sides, so make sure you rotate your skewers halfway through cooking. We usually grill ours for around 8 minutes per side.
  • Season before and after cooking. To give my grilled vegetables maximum flavor, I season them with olive oil, salt, and pepper before I put them on the grill. Afterwards, I season with salt and pepper to taste and drizzle them with a tasty dressing, sprinkle them with fresh herbs, and serve them with a sauce for dipping.
  • Dont skip the sauce. Grilled veggies are good on their own, but a flavorful sauce can take them over the top. See below for my best suggestions!

    Grilled Okra With Cajun Rmoulade

    Serves 4 to 6.

Note: From Steven Raichlen, for the New York Times.

Vegetable oil, for the grill grates

    1 lb. okra

    3 tbsp. melted butter

Cajun or Creole seasoning or blackening spice mixture, for sprinkling

    For the Cajun rémoulade:

3 tbsp. Creole or Dijon mustard

    1 tbsp. prepared horseradish

    1 tbsp. pickle juice, optional

1 tsp. Tabasco or other Louisiana-style hot sauce, or to taste

    1 tsp. smoked paprika

    1 tbsp. chopped fresh chives

    Directions

Set up grill for direct grilling and heat your grill to high . Brush or scrape the grill grate clean and oil it with a tightly folded paper towel dipped in vegetable oil and drawn across the bars of the grate with tongs.

Meanwhile, trim the ends off the stems of the okra, but do not cut into the pods. Lay 4 to 6 okra pods side by side, alternating the positions of the heads and tails. Pin crosswise near the heads and tails with toothpicks or short metal or bamboo skewers to form rafts. If the bamboo skewers extend far beyond the okra, snip off the long ends of the skewers. Brush the okra rafts on both sides with melted butter and sprinkle with Cajun seasoning.

Make the rémoulade sauce: Place the mayonnaise in a mixing bowl and whisk in the mustard, horseradish, pickle juice , hot sauce, paprika, Cajun seasoning and chives. Transfer to 4 or 6 small serving bowls.

How To Reheat And Store Grilled Vegetables

    • Reheating instruction
    • Microwave You can reheat for a minute or two in the microwave. However, the vegetables will lose their slight char and crispy edge.
    • Air fryer You can reheat them in the air fryer at 400F for 3 to 4 minutes. This method works great in recapturing the grill flavor.
  • Storing
  • The vegetables will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
  • I have not personally tried to freeze the air-fried grilled vegetables but according to my research, they can be frozen. However, they tend to be soggy and lose their crisp so I recommend enjoying them within 3 to 4 days.

Im not a fan of indoor grilling for meat or poultry. But quick cooking fish like shrimp is definitely worthy of this special pan.

Grilled Pepper Eggplant & Onion Compote

After many summers of grilling for my family and friends, Ive developed a strategy that solves a problem and opens up a great opportunity to be creative at the same time. By grilling vegetables ahead of time, I free up the grill for the steaks or chicken or burgers at dinnertime. And give myself the chance to turn my grilled vegetables into terrific salads, side dishes, and saucesor just arrange them nicely on a platter. Luckily, grilled vegetables are delicious at room temperature they dont need to be served hot off the grill. And they keep well, too. Grill a few hoursor a day or twoahead.

Ive also finally made friends with the gas grill. Its not a perfect relationshipI still think everything tastes better cooked over a charcoal firebut it certainly is a convenient one. So Ive adapted my favorite recipes and my techniques for prepping and grilling to the gas grill. Ive discovered that using a gas grill on its highest setting with the lid down, gives excellent results.

Should I Marinade My Vegetables Before Hand

I would recommend not marinading your vegetables. I find that adding a marinade thats made with citrus or vinegars will break down your vegetables instead of keeping them crisp. If you would like to prep your vegetables ahead of time, you could cut them one day before and season with olive oil, salt and pepper then store in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator.
