Buying A Gas Grill Heat Plate

The first thing you need to consider when buying a grill heat plate is the size of your grill’s burners. The plates should be big enough to protect the burners and vaporize enough meat drippings. Check your grill’s owner’s manual or simply use a tape measurer to find the length, width and height of the burners.

Then consider material. Gas grill heat plates come in stainless steel, porcelain and porcelain coated stainless steel. All of these materials are able to protect your burner and add flavor to your food, so you should pick a material that goes well with your grill and that you enjoy.

How Do I Find Replacement Parts For My Grill

Many of our longtime Weber fans have grills that are 15, 20 even 30 years old and they are still going strong. Over the years various parts on these grills might need to be replaced and we are often asked if there are still replacement parts available. As a general rule, we do our best to keep replacement parts in stock up to 10 years after a grill has been discontinued but often times we carry parts for even longer than that. For example we still carry grates and Flavorizer bars for some of the original 1985 Genesis grills.

Most of the replacement parts on our website are for wear and tear or more commonly replaced items such as grates, Flavorizer bars or igniter kits. If there is something you cant find for your grill there is a good chance that we might have it available through our call center. They can be reached at 1-800-446-1071 and are open every day.

We encourage you to have the serial number on your grill available when calling. The serial number clearly identifies which model you have and will allow us to know exactly which parts are correct for your specific grill. Click here to learn how to find the serial number on your grill.

So if you cant find what you are looking for on Weber.com pick up that phone and give us a call. We are ready and waiting to help get your grill up and running again or back into shape!

Stainless Steel Grill Grates

Stainless steel grill grates are relatively easy to maintain and clean than other types of replacement grill grates. They are durable and perform well. Stainless steel grill grates dont get as hot as cast iron, but retain heat well. Eventually, stainless steel grates tend to lose their nonstick qualities and food starts to stick to the grid. But if youre looking for a low-maintenance replacement grill grate, stainless steel is a wise option.

What Grill Gas Valves Do

Gas grill valves are fundamental in regulating how much heat makes it to your grill pit. Essentially, BBQ grill valves release gas into the venturi tube into the burner.

The hose and regulator connects to the propane tank where the gas flows through the manifold to the valves and into the burner where it is mixed with oxygen.

From the venturi tube, the gas is released into the burners, where it is ignited and used as fuel for the grill. The valves react to the user’s commands through a knob or handle attachment that releases gas. Valves have three connections, one for the gas line, one to the burner and one to the knob, and are only a couple of inches long.

Why The Bbq Depot Valves

The BBQ Depot has all kinds of grill valves and regulators to fit the exact part number and model of your original valve. We buy all of our products directly from manufacturers, meaning that you can feel safe that you are buying the right valve for your grill. Grill Updating And Repair Is Easy

Buying grill parts to update and fix your grill can get it back to good working order quickly and easily. Things to note are when a gas grill is working properly the flame is evenly distributed through its burners, the flame itself is blue with yellow tips – NOT orange. With all burners on high there should be even heat across the total cooking surface. Be sure the heat plates are properly installed above the burners to prevent flare ups that burn food quickly. The stainless steel flavor shields catch drippings from foods so they can be burned off by the heat of the grill.

SAFETY FIRST: Always make sure that you have TURNED OFF all gas flowing to your grill from a gas line or propane tank before doing any work on your grill. Visually check the burners for clogged gas holes. You can easily see this issue by observing how the grill burns. Each burner on your grill is going to have a dedicated control valve. The gas valve consists of several brass components that are specifically designed to regulate the flow of gas to your burner.

Cast Iron Grill Grates

Why you should buy a Weber Grill

The heavier the better when it comes to cast iron grill grates. Cast iron can get much hotter and retain the heat better than stainless steel or porcelain. Because it gets hotter it can give the backyard chef the sear marks they desire. Cast iron grills require more maintenance and care but are well worth the effort.

The Benefits Of A New Valve

Many recipes call for slow cooking or indirect grilling — especially recipes that use wood chips to smoke the meat. Without good valves, it can be hard to cook these meals properly as if your valve does not react adequately to the knob it uses, then you don’t have as much control over the grill temperature.

Additionally, some meats such as steaks and pork chops are delicious when they are grilled quickly over a hot flame. The high temperature locks flavor and juices into the meat while cooking the meat all the way through.

A malfunctioning gas grill valve could also be holding back gas and therefore heat from the burners, taking away your ability to get the grill as hot as possible.

How To Replace Your Burners

  • Turn off your gas supply
  • Remove your cooking grates and heat shields whichever your grill uses
  • Remove the old burner
  • Install the new burner – Be sure the burner completely covers the valve orifice.
  • Turn on the gas supply and ignite the burner to be sure it was installed correctly. Look for a blue flame. If your flame is not blue, you may want to adjust the air shutter to get a better gas to air mixture. Propane usually has an air shutter more open than natural gas.
  • Reinstall the heat distribution system and cooking grates
