How To Chill And What Temperature Is Required To Preheat The Grill

Thin Boneless Pork Chop Recipe – Best Way to Grill

Some things that are important and you have to keep in mind while cooking the pork chops on a Foreman Grill. First, remove the marinated pork chops from the refrigerator. Let them sit for a few minutes to get them to normal temperature. You do not have any need to shock the meat by putting it from extreme cold temperature to the hot grill.

You may know that flesh always cooks better when it is closer to normal temperature. Moreover, you also have to make sure to preheat your Foreman Grill. Most grills may have a light indicator that indicates when the grill gets hot enough. Remember to never place the meat on a cold grill.

Faqs For Tender Grilled Pork Chops

What thickness do you use for your chops?

I usually use 1/2- to 1-inch thick

What temperature do you use on the grill?

I set my pellet grill to 375 for medium heat.

How do you freeze this ahead of time?

I marinate them and then put them in the freezer. I pull them out in time to defrost in the refrigerator and then put them on the grill when they are defrosted.

How Long To Grill Pork Chops

Boneless or bone-in pork chops that are about 1 inch thick will cook for 8-10 minutes. If you are grilling extremely thick chops, the bone will start to affect the timing of your cook. 1 1/2 inch thick boneless pork chops typically cook through in 14-18 minutes and bone-in chops at that thickness can take up to 20 minutes or more.

Although time is a nice guideline for a recipe, the absolute most important factor when cooking pork chops on the grill is to pay attention to internal temperature.

Pork is perfectly cooked through, juicy, and safe to eat at 145 degrees F. Get yourself a good instant-read thermometer to avoid over or undercooking your grilled pork chops. I recommend ThermoWorks products. Theyve always produced a fast and reliable result.

    Pork Chops Internal Temperature

The best way to know if your pork chops are done is by measuring the internal temperature. Everyone likes to eat their pork chops slightly differently. Some like it well done and some like it medium-rare.

So, below you will find internal temperatures corresponding to doneness:

    • 145-150ºF medium-rare

Cook Over Low Heat To 145f

Transfer the pork chops to low heat and cook until an instant-read thermometer registers 145-degrees, 68 minutes more.

The cook times are important but the temperature is really the indicator you should be looking for. Avoid piercing the meat with a for or knife to check for doneness as this releases those precious juices we want! Instead opt for a thermometer. Its fast, efficient and most of all accurate.

If you dont have a kitchen thermometer I highly recommend getting on. I swear by my Thermapen and I really believe its a worthwhile investment. If youd prefer something a litter cheaper a ThermoPop is also a great option!

How To Season Pork Chops For The Grill

Yes, you can use a million different types of seasoning for pork chops on the grill, but I like my grilled boneless pork chops the same way I like my handmade, juicy burgers: simply with a generous amount of kosher salt. We all have iodized salt in our cabinets because it is the cheapest at the store, but that doesnt mean it is the best salt for cooking. Not only does the addition of iodine alter the flavors of whatever you add it to, but its tiny crystal size makes it dissolve too quickly, leading to over-salting. If you remember only one point from this post, let it be this: everything you cook and bake will taste better if you use kosher salt instead of iodized salt!

When you are going to cook boneless center-cut pork chops, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F and then bake them for 25 minutes. However, for bone-in pork chops that might be 1-inch thick, preheat the oven up to 475 degrees F. Roast them by flipping the chops once, unless they are just cooked completely, almost 25 minutes.

For years, cooks have been told to cook pork until well done, resulting in a dried out piece of meat nobody wants to eat. No more!

According to recent changes in the USDA guidelines, it is safe to eat pork cooked medium rare. Cook the pork chops to an internal temperature of 140°F and still barely pink inside, then rest for about 5 minutes for the residual heat will continue to cook and raise the internal temperature.

For thin cut, bone-in pork chops about 1/4 inch thick, cook over direct medium-high to high heat for a total of 3-5 minutes, with the lid closed, turning once.

For 1-inch thick boneless pork chops, cook for 8-12 minutes over direct heat turning every 3-4 minutes or until well grill marked with the lid closed. Add another 5 minutes resting time for the juices to set in the meat.

If cooked properly, the pork chops will release a bit of juice as they rest, a sign theyre still nice and juicy on the inside.

    Preparing Pork Chops To Grill

What Chops to Choose: Any pork chop will work, but I prefer a center cut 1 inch thick, either bone-in or boneless. ¾ inch is a little thin and can dry out more. A brine will help some, but you will be happier with thicker.

Chops thicker than 1 ½ may require either reverse searing or some time over indirect heat. I usually don’t do these thicker chops since I consider them too big for a serving.

Trim the Fat Layer: There is usually a layer of fat on the edge any pork loin. I suggest trimming it, but others think it adds some flavor and helps prevent drying. If not trimmed, it may cause “cupping,” complicating the grilling.

If the fat layer is over ¼ inch, trim it to ¼ inch thick and score every inch to prevent cupping of the pork during cooking.

Is This A Healthy Grilled Pork Chop Recipe

Yes! Pork chops are lean meat and a healthy main dish option. They are low in saturated fat and calories and high in protein. While you’ll often find sugar added to pork chop recipes, I think it’s totally unnecessary to take a healthy cut of meat and add unhealthy sugar. The paprika and onion powder in the marinade add the perfect gentle sweetness to this recipe so there is no need for sugar.

Tips For The Best Grilled Pork Chops:

  • Pick the right cut of pork. Center cut chops and rib chops are the best. The meat on blade chops is close to really stringy muscles so when youre eating it can be difficult to chew. Its possible to get a tenderloin to not dry out, but it requires lots of attention while cooking.
  • Use pork chops that are about 1 1/2 inch thick. The meat is thick enough to get a good crust, but not so thin it dries it out.
  • When cooking the pork chops on the grill sear the chops on high to get a great crust, but then move it to a lower heat to allow for slower, more controlled cooking.

    Brined Pork Chops Are Juicier

Grilled Boneless Pork Chops with BBQ sauce

Pork is a lean meat that can become notoriously bone-dry when cooked. Brining pumps them full of moisture, preventing them from drying out. Even a quick dip, about 30 minutes, in the brine will help your pork stay juicy and tender.

The brine I recommend for these pork chops is quite simple to prepare, and it works wonders. It guarantees the meat remains juicy until you sink your teeth into them. While I’m ashamed to admit that I tapped out before I could finish both of my pork chops, I am proud that even when I reheated them, they didn’t dry out.

    How To Grill Pork Chops

Now that you know the ins and outs of this recipe, heres how to cook pork chops on the grill.

  • Preheat. Turn on your grill and preheat for two-zone cooking with the overall grill temperature at medium-high heat .
  • Season. Season the pork chops on all sides with Sweet Rub, and press the dry rub into the meat.
  • Sear. Move the chops over to the direct heat side of your grill, and sear for 2-3 minutes per side. Keep a close eye on the chops, as you dont want the brown sugar in the rub to burn.
  • Finish grilling. Return the chops to the indirect heat side and continue to cook them until they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F.
  • Rest and enjoy. As soon as your pork chops reach the correct internal temperature, remove them from the grill and let them rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing and serving. This will help stop the cooking process and redistribute the juices through the pork chop.
  • Feeling ready to serve up this delicious food for dinner? I can guarantee your family and guests will be mighty impressed.

How To Grill Pork Chops Without Drying Them Out

Follow these four cardinal rules for perfect, juicy grilled pork chops.

    • Use Thick-Cut, Bone-In Pork Chops. A thicker chop can better withstand the heat of the grill. The bone also helps insulate the meat and keep the pork chop moist.
    • . Coating the pork with a rub or marinade that contains salt is key to ensuring that the pork turns out juicy, not dry. Salt tenderizes meat and helps it retain water, keeping your pork chops moist.
